Is the FB coil a ballast coil?

I've replaced the points with an electronic ignition and "standard" 3 ohm coil. Starts ok and runs for two minutes or so then starts missing under load, backfiring etc. is this because I should have a ballast coil with 1.5 ohms? Thanks in advance.

Can someone tell me the thread type and lengths for:

Flywheel bolts
Clutchplate bolts
Startermotor bolts
and Bellhousing Bolts

Holden 179HP Carbie Options?

Hey Fellas,
I've really started to rebuild my old HP motor for my old girl, and just wondering some carbie options?...

The motor has had a 202 re-bore "so is essentially a 186?", and crow 35667 cam with new JP Helical timing gears. I've got a HEI setup for it and a worked 9 port head which will be running roller rockers. The head has 1-3/4" Intake Valves and 1-1/2" Exhaust valves. Valves are stainless steel ones. I've also got extractors to fit upto it.

308, Trying to find a rattle

Hi All,

I got my 308 rebuilt, about 2 years ago. Has a Quadrajet, Bosch HEI, edelbrock performer, crane 276, 30 thou flat tops L34 heads always running 98 octane.

It would have all of about 500kms at this point. Starts and runs well. Issue i have is when cruising in 4th (Aussie 4 speed) If i lower the revs then accelerate theres a funny sort of flapping/rattle noise. It dosent sound nasty but it is annoying. I have found that if i accelerate and pull the choke slightly in (manual choke) it stops, but the engine bogs down.

Electric fuel pump into hj

Hi, does anyone know the best way to modify a fuel tank for a hj sedan to run an electric fuel pump or the best way to set them up?
Ive read alot of forums and dr terry on here gave a solution with putting in a tank out of a vp/vr commy and get spout welded in, but that was 6yrs ago.
Theres also a place over east that can modify an original tank for 600.

X2 Twin Strommies

Were the twin carbies fitted to the X2 179 and 186 engines the same as the single carby used on the stock engines, but with venturi restrictors and re-jetted, or were they a carby with a smaller sized venturi?

Quick 64

Well I finally got it going. Had a few dramas with the brand new quick fuel carb. The o’ring on the needle and seat was wrong and there was a spec of zinc plating holding the needle open. All fixed now. Happy days ahead.

My brother has just picked up a VH commodore with a HG 308 block. Nov 11 70. (L110)

There are some other numbers on the side after the 308H30###.
There's a space then possibly L867
Would anybody be able to help us out with them last letter and numbers? Could be 4867.

Head 202 piston- Grrrr... Can anyone throw me a piston?

Hey Fellas.

Recently started to clean up a 202 for my old holden, but upon starting to re-ring the thing I've found a broken piston in-between the 2 upper rings. Just wondering if anyone could donate or sell me a 202 piston on a rod cheap? It'd probably need to be posted out to me "in rural Tassie", but It'd be bloody appreciated!! I've been looking around and putting the feelers out there, but so far to no avail..

Holden EH 179HP Carbie?

Hi all,
I'm looking to restore an old EH holden running a 179HP motor. The motor itself is just stamped EH, but I am wondering what the factory carbie is for one of these. Is it by chance one of those tall single barrel strombergs? or did they come out with something different?

RE: Conrod bolts

I wasn't aware of this, I thought you just pressed the old bolts out and the new ones go straight in? What is the process to do this?

Hi all
hoping someone can help me with a starting point
hq van runninig a stroked 308 hooked into a trimatic
Looking at fitting a throttle body efi system and wondering if there is any info available ie best kind, points to note or look for
any help appreciated
Have been looking at the self tuning Holley sniper setups
PS car is a cruiser used for longish trips

conrod bolts for 202

Just a question, are you still able to buy stock conrod bolts for a 202 or are the ARP bolts the only option?

I have a 202 here that is already 60 thou over, bores still look good and have the hone marks but would like to inspect the bearings as it has probably been sitting for a long time.

I don't really want to spend the $$$ for the arp ones as this will just be a short term solution and have heard reusing the current bolts is not a good idea as they stretch.

So are there any other options for rod bolts?

Run in time.

I got it running on Monday. Started first kick. Run in for 20 minutes at 2000 rpm. Thermos cycled on and off ok. Temp was good, no leaks. Carby needs a few adjustments otherwise happy days.

No oil pressure!!

Hey guys can somebody please help me. Just freshly rebuilt my 192 (186) and I've primed everything as I've built it. I've gone to crank her over to start the initial break in process and my gauge doesn't even rise to the first small notch (gauge in picture) it gets about half way to the first notch when running and stays there. Can someone please help, cheers
