Need help 10bolt diff

Hi all I'm having a little trouble getting the yolk off the ten bolt Salisbury tried heating up the nut and used a rattle gun running of a compressor have also tried a long bar all advice or help would be appreciated thanks in advance. Tom from tassie

HQ Body ID plate

Hi, can any help with the numbers on the body identification plate. Looking at a GTS Monaro 80837 to purchase. I don't understand fully the information that describes the engine type and transmission type ect. The body identification plate only has model, body number, trim and paint listed on it.

The VIN only breaks down to model, body style, assembly plant and sequence number. I understand that the VIN number is the First system having 13 characters for cars built prior to 1st october 1972. And that the second system provided more information.

T700 into HQ sedan

I have an HQ with a M20 and heavy duty clutch. My left knee is gone so have to change the gearbox (have 3.08 Salisbury)and I recall reading a T700 from a VN is the way to go. I'm seeking feedback on what to watch out for and if there is anyone in Perth that can do this for me.

I wasn't sure whether the transmission tunnel would be ok for the T700 and do I need an adaptor plate and a special speedo cable.

Hz tonner gearbox conversion

Hi there,

I've got a 78 HZ one tonner and am going to do a 5ltr Efi conversion
Question is will a getrag 5spd fit in the tunnel or is a t5 better ?
I know the rest is a straight swap
Any info much appreciated

Rear wheel bearings

I have one rear wheel bearing crying out to changed, but I have jacked up each side and spun the wheel, but cannot pick which side is crook. Any secret tricks ?
They both sound the same under no load (spinning by hand).

Gearbox ID

can anyone help my mate with gearbox i.d ?

he was sold what was supposed to be a 4 speed the number on the selector plate is 57433771 & number on the side of the plate is 50519 (this is how my mate relayed it to me)

is the easy way to tell, a 4 speed has ribs on the outside of the box & the 3 speed doesn`t ?

any help appreciated

Clunking... Diff or Gearbox?

I have a vk 308 with and LSD. For ages I’ve been getting pretty bad backlash from the drivetrain, as well as a pretty loud clunk when I change gear (trimatic gearbox). Took it to the mechanic, said the diff is 'worn'. I’ve had the uni joints done which has fixed the worst of the backlash, but im still getting that brutal clunk from the gearbox. Thing is, it’s intermittent… sometimes it’s smooth as silk, other times it’s horrible which makes me think it's drivetrain and not box. Gearbox was rebuilt a few years ago and mechanic says it looks ok.

diff/drive train play

Hi ALL,

Been posting over the last few years on and off, I am rebuilding a panel van/mock sandman

I need some help with this though, so if anyone has some info to point me in the right direction.

WB van, has a banjo diff in it. Auto

When on the road (2 years ago now), when changing from forward gears into reverse you would get an awful clunk out of the rear, sometimes sounded like something hitting the tail shaft, but could not find anything at the time.

Diff also had a slow leak.

Questions are:

What should I check to know what needs replacing? Uni joints etc I am guessing, how much play is considered normal in the diff/drive train?

What is the general cause/s of that clunk/diff slap?

What is a good 5 speed conversion to bolt up to a red six?
I know there a re adaptors for Toyota Supra and Celica boxes, any others?

Th400 to trimatic adapter

Hey guys, so the story goes I purchased a 308 off the local mechanic in town and was assured it was a trimatic pattern. (Having a clutch/pressure plate and flywheel on it, I took his word for it.) turns out when I went to put the motor in, it's a th400 pattern. So I've now wasted a day swapping motors and I'm no better off. Anyway, it now leaves me with the question, what do I do now?

Best oil for Salisbury LSD Diff

Hi guys,

Can anyone recommend an oil to use in Salisbury 10 Bolt LSD Diff?
I have always just used bog-stock hypoid oil. Usually cheap stuff. I want to give my diff a really nice birthday present...

EH Crashbox

Just picked up a nice EH. The 3 speed crash box is difficult to engage 3rd gear and barely goes all the way in and then takes a bit to get it to come back out. All other gears work perfectly. I removed the linkages from the box and the problem lies in there. 3rd gear selector was hard to put in using a shifter as leverage and then tough to get back out. The others just click in nicely. I was planning on removing the selector side form the box and had a look in there. Is there anything else i should be aware of or possible problem?

Efi adapter ring

Hey guys, does anyone know where to get the adaptor ring which welds into a non efi fuel tank/cell so you can run the commodore efi fuel pump? I was reading about it on one of Aussietonner posts but i can't seem to find where to buy the ring. Would anyone have a link?

Hilux Diff to HQ PCD

Hello,

I'm putting a Hilux diff in EJ that I'm building and I'm wanting to run HQ PCD.

I'm thinking of getting the thicker Tonner axles shortened and re-splined to suit the Hilux diff which is 30 spline.

From my measurements the axles will need to be shorten to 694mm.

My first question is has anyone had experience shortening these axles. I believe they have had additional heat treatment. Could they be shorten to this length.

350 Chev what High stall to put in?

Im in the middle of putting the 350 chev in and it has a Hydraulic .487 Lift (valve lift) Cam with roller rockers so it has over .500 lift. so 487/487 303 dur 234@50.

I have a 750 Carter carby and it has 10.4 compression pistons with 78cc heads.

What RPM high stall should I get for this? (at a guess)

Or should I get it going first and then decide?

Ah and not for the drag strip hehe I want only good for the street.

HT Diff - complete

People,

I've only just realised that when I updated my old posts that they do not appear at the top of the page.

After completing my diff install, I have a redundant HT banjo housing and axles. They are free to a good Old Holdener. They are in WA - south west.

Also, Ted1960 - I got lower shock mount plates from a guy here in WA. He has more if you are still looking. Let me know and I'll point you towards his gumtree add.

Manual conversion

Hi guys just after some tips and opinions im looking at converting my hj tonner with a 350 chev from a th350 to amanual and just chasing some info on mabe a supra/ selica 5speed, t5 commodore or t56 looking for the best drivability as well as fuel consumption around town and on the highway.

Question about Banjo Flange Gaskets

The rare spares gasket kit comes with 4 flange gaskets, one goes between the diff housing and the baking plate for the brakes. Is there another that goes between the axle flange and the backing plate ? Neither of my DIY Books shows an exploded diagram of the Banjo housing assembly.
