commy vc sway bar link bushes

If the bushes on the sway bar link rods are stuffed wil that be enough to make a knock sound on cornering and random other times? The ball joint seems ok and the bearing seems ok. Thankyou
Grant

steering wheel

Hi guys, I am needing to replace my indicator stalk, and could use some help.

I've used some wd40 on the steering wheel, and with a puller, it still won't budge.

I am going to try giving it some taps with a hammer, but some advise would be appreciated.

Thanks.

T and Matt with a HQ

G'day everyone,

Here are a few photos from T and I replacing there generic front end components on my HQ.

Key learning points were:

- The best way to negate a hangover is by not dancing whilst drinking
- Brake pads coming off drum brake shoes is best discovered in the car port
- Some neighbours are interested in old cars, most are not
- A 32 year old is better suited to physical labour when pressing bushes out by hand

HK T G with chev & power steering,pic`s for T

have been slowly installing power steering into the HK prem, which has a 350 & long water pump.pretty much all the parts for the chev powered HK T G models are very different to those that are holden powered.i made the mistake first up & bought a set up for holden motor & there was no way in hell it would fit.lucky they are easy to sell, even made my money back, bought a chev set up & had a few $$ spare.

i believe the only parts that are the same are the ram & pump, someone please correct me if i`m wrong

main pic is of the idler arm & it`s support bracket, vastly different to holden type

2nd & 3rd pic`s are of the pump that suits long water pump (return hose barb faces down)

4th & 5th pic`s are of the pump that suits short water pump (return hose barb faces up)

TonyC4195

Hi Guys.....
Anybody ever fitted a factory ram power steering unit into a HT running the standard 20:1 steering box ? They were normally fitted with a 16.9:1 but I don't have a 16:1 box and I also recall during a 16:1 factory power steering Premier and finding the steering too light.
I'm thinking a 20:1 standard box with the ram steering may be less twitchy.
Any comments or feedback would be great.
Cheers
Tony

Rims and tires for my HQ tonner question

g'day guys I am looking to put some rims and tires on my Holden HQ tonner I currently have 245/60R14 on it right now I want to go to 15x7 in the front and 15x8 in the back I would like to keep the fronts as big as possible without rubbing when I turn. The back will have the stock steel flatbed on it I just want to make the rear look nice and fat old school muscle car look. Any recommendation on wheel and tire size combos and offsets. Thanks mates and cheers

steering box tension bolt wont move

Hi guys, so Ive got a WB with the steering box quite loose, but the tension adjuster on top is seized in. its the type where is like a big grub screw with the allen key/hex head. ___no locking nut___.

should i soak it and have another go? is there a locking nut inside the box or something? all the ppl I ask about this say it would be a bolt with locking nut. make it tight then back it off a little. but there is no nut and i cant move this allen head bolt.

any help much appreciated.

cheers

Steering Box Adjustment

Hi guys. Hope everyone had a good Chrissie.

I've got a bit of slack in the steering box. Can move the wheel 2.5 cm each way before the pitman arm starts to move. I've read up on the method of adjusting the box using a spring scale but have no Spring scale and can't find anyone that sells one with the right scale.

So was thinking of adjusting the sector shaft screw and the worm shaft but a quarter turn and see if it removes the play. If I mark the original positions I can always take it back where it was. What do you guys reckon?

Idler Arm question (EH)

Hi All

Need some help/info regarding the Idler Arm on an EH please.

Took the EH in for a RWC today after a year off the road and mechanic says the Idler Arm to Idler Arm Support joint/thread has play. After pulling them off, he reckons the thread is a bit stuffed on both parts.

He's ordered a new Support but I'm struggling to find a replacement Arm.

So I have 3 questions... (please bare in mind I haven't yet personally seen these parts off the car and apart as he put them back so I could drive it home - I have only looked at the new part).

1. Is some play normal? Should it just be packed with grease etc?
2. Do you think the mechanic is confusing the very shallow 'thread' as worn? (See pic of new mount part)
