i don't have any here to chuck on the bathroom scales and cannot find anything online except the total weight of the motor

Have a vb commodore sle 6 cylinder? how can i tell if its a genuine sle? on the dash it hasnt got a tacho and doenst have a single spoked steering wheel, both i thought would have been standard, it has the sle wheels, bumper bars, power steering, electric aerial, wipers on headlights. If someone can help me, who knows about this, can you let me know.

Hi People, Dose anyone know if Holden produced any special cars for racing in the mid fifties. I know that GM did not allow any of there subsiduaries to participate in racing thats why HDT was created. Can anyone shed any light. Cheers Gary

Hey guys. I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I can't start up my HQ annymore. When I turn the keys it turns one click but it's stuck and won't even goto accessories. It just suddenly happened. I was driving around 10 minutes ago fine, but for some reason the keys won't turn past one click anymore. Very strange. I took the steering wheel off and it seems fine. And I don't wanna hotwire it to go for a drive everytime.
Has this happened to anyonoe else before?
Please help guys I have no idea what happened!

Do the numbers in front mean anything? or just the 4/5 numbers after?

How can you tell what year it was made.

Car runs/drives, though condition worsening i.e. stalling in idle, but continues to jolt forward/back while maintaining constant speed and is more noticeable at speeds of 80 kms & over.

I temporarily adjusted the two front idle needle valves, screwing them out (I think this increases fuel/decreases oxygen ??).

So far I've ruled out the following as possible contributors:

-fuel lines
-carbi (jets should be good still)
-inline brass filter removed recently (very slight -improvement, but could be coincidence)
-new plastic fuel filter still good
-seat and needle
-new spark leads and spark plugs 4 mths old (need to check condition)

My mate found a pic of HQ ute (twin engine) with a decal on the rear window, shown on pg 95 of 'Street machine Holden Legends' mag (issue 2) and he is searching for the (dealer) decal for his lx torana originally bought from dustings in burwood in 1977 and was just wondering if the holden dustings decal in the image is an original or not i.e. dealer issued, also if any one could make a repro of it?

I couldn't recall which members were involved in decal reproduction!!

Hello. I am wondering if anyone can help me with a few codes. I have a hq gts monaro. My trim code is 10y which is houndstooth but it has 1828 in front of it. does anyone know what that number means. Also the numbers on the firewall, do they mean anything. Mine is 7055 S.. I am also going to replace the hood-lining and i have seen two types i can buy, is there anyway of finding out the original or does this not matter when involving the trim. The two types i have found are Roebuck and Flax ribbed.
Do the HQ,s have a chasis number. I thought they were on one of the arms but i can not find it.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

G'day guys, few questions on id plates on my hd ute. took it for a roadworthy to change states for the rego, the guy knocked it back for a couple of minor things, one of which was the id plates being painted over, he said he wanted to be able to tell what year model it is.

i cleaned the paint off the main tag on the master cylinder side of the firewall and double checked on my hd sedan, but nowhere on the tags or body number does it mention the year model of the car?? does one of the codes give an indication to the year?

also i have noticed on the opposite side of the firewall the utes (possibly the vans too)

Am trying to revin HT 308 GTS Monaro, problem being orignal plates show vin ID should be 80837TJHT19270M, can anyone advise if this is a correct code?
The tag fitted to the car is actually 80837TJ192236 which looks correct to me?
Main issue is to sort out if the first code is correct.

Why is there a P stamped under the A on the fire wall of my HK Premier.

Hey guys im currently painting my HQ Monaro GTS4 and need some help with the blackouts.I have the dimensions for the stripes over the bonnet and boot lid but need the specs for the 1/4 panel flutes,the lower part nose cone,maybe called stone tray? blackout and around the windows.

The factory colour is cyan blue and im doing it with the white stripes but just unsure of what colour blacks to use on the blackouts and also the dimensions of the blackouts.
Any advice would be appreciated

You'll find that the factory VK EFI camshaft for the 3.3 black motor is stamped GM7

I have just purchased an Autometer fuel gauge for my HQ one tonner. I need to replace the faulty tank sender unit and have been told by all the regular outlets that I'll only get one from rare spares. I looked up their website and there are two different types. One type is magnetic and the other is thermal. On the website they look identical (if the photo's are accurate) but have different part numbers. Can anyone tell me the difference (rare spares can't) and which one would suit my gauge.
The guage is a GM type (0-90 ohm) and has a power wire, sender wire and earth wire which is apparently attached to the tank.
The guy from Autobarn says he's never had a complaint about an Autometer fuel guage not working with a stock sender and reckons they will both work.

Sometime in the future I might want a HEI for the kinga (hz 253) and I don't know anything about what types I can use and whether there are varying amounts of effort involved to fit particular HEI types.

I'm just running ideas around in my head at the moment, but it would be great to hear learn-ed wisdom from OldHoldener's?

I was checking out the firing order in holdenpaedia and looked at my spark plug setup and noticed it was different to the image shown in holdenpaedia. Here is a layout of how my leads are presently attached to the spark plugs, which shows the numbering of the distributor according to the
holdenpaedia diagram.

I'm wondering whether my distributor has been fitted incorrectly i.e. wrong alignment? Also how would a hz 253 likely react if the spark plug leads were not in the right positions - would the car start at all?

I have been looking at replacement engines and replacement blocks and I have concluded the following, subject to change;

perhaps complete engine may have been removed from the assembly line, the 1948 to HR Master parts book refers to complete 149 HD engines being available from current production.
If you wanted any other size it looks like you could only buy a short motor or a block with pistons.

The 186 was first available in the HR in three forms 186A Pefix and two versions of the the 186K then apparently from some sources a handful of the 186S prefix engines for the last of them, though the books do not indicate this.

hi folks,

a friend gave me an old precision 10 digital analyser for measuring dwell angle, volts, rpm and points but I have no idea how to use it. It has 3 wires coming out, red, black and green all with alligator clips and an inductive pickup as on a timing light. It also has a compartment on the back for its own batteries.

any advice on how to hook it up would be greatly appreciated.
