holden 186 carburetor problems

hi everyone, my name is andrew, im 17 years old,
iv got a holden 186, and i seem to be having trouble with the carburetor. When the engine is idling, there should be no vacume advance. When i open the throttle fully, the vacume is very minimul. the ports and cables arn't blocked, and im stumped to whats wrong with it.
It could be that, a while ago i replaced all the gaskits on the carburetor, and when i took the thing apart, the little wire restrictor fell out, and i wasn't sure where it was suppose to go, so i just guessed. the engine seemed to run ok, apart from that it has barly any vacume advance. Please help, the car drinks to much....Does anyone have any tips on improving the economy to??

Priming oil pump

Ok I'm putting my oil pump back on and hopefully it will get oil pressure this time. One question though - when preparing it, should I pack it full of vasoline around the blades, to get all the air out of it? Or should I just put a thin coat on each blade?

Oil Pressure

Ok I'm confused, and scared. I don't believe that oil is getting to the top of my engine (253)..so to test this i borrowed an oil pressure gauge. Screwed it into the oil pump, crank the engine and it's running but there is no reading of any pressure on the gauge. When I removed the gauge, quite a lot of oil comes out the hole. Doesn't this suggest there is oil pressure????? The engine has been running for about a total of 5 minutes since I rebuilt it, and there is no evidence of oil making it to the rockers. Would it even have had enough time for oil to make it to the top of the engine? I did prime the oil pump with vasoline before I assembled it. So, I need some advice please, before I cook and seize my engine.

HELP NEEDED NO IDEA WHAT IS CAUSING

hi guys im having very bad troubles with my hk holden 202 it seems that when you go to Start or even ON ,on the igition switch the cars starter motor stays on i have replaced it twice checked the ignition stwitch off my other hk and still doesnt work so the basic problem is the starter motor wont turn off like it kicks the car over fine but then stays ingauged if anyone out there can help me it would be much much apprecitated thanks Adrian

Tuning 253

I'm having problems with my 253, in that it will start, but then after 10-15 seconds the motor will die. If I give it some accelerator, it will last longer, but eventually die too. Now I know the timing is out at the moment but I've fiddled with it and that doesn't affect it much. I've been told the fuel may be running out the reservoir of the carby (holley 350). Does this sound like it could be the source of the problem? If so how can I check this, and remedy it?

Carbi removal

How do I remove my carbi to service it ?
Im having problem's starting the car and my guess is that the float inside is clogged.
Is there a certain tool or way to get it off? Suggestions would be apprieciated.

No Key to remove ignition...

I have lost the keys to my HD Ute and have all the new locks to replace. I have replaced the door locks but am stuck with the ignition.

Is it possible to drill out the lock like I owuld with any other? I am going to give it a try tomorrow.

Help with my 253 distributor

First time to thise site,
I;m looking for a bit of help. Ive just removed cleaned and
fixed my distributor from a 253 that I have sitting in
an old Landcruiser, I know, I know. Anyhow having as usual
more enthusiasm than brains I'm stuffed if I can figure out
how to put it back in just the place it came from.
I read through some old posts and gave lining up this and that a shot but I'm not even sure which is S.P No1 to

noise in the rear end

I have noise from the right rear wheel when cornering. I replaced the wheelbearing and all bush kits in the spring shackle about 6 months ago and that seemed to fix this same problem that has resurfaced again. Can anyone tell me what might be causing this to happen repeatedly?

Any Mechanics here?

I want to do two jobs to the head of my blue 202.
1. replace the hydraulic lifters = Can i do this without removing dizzy & side plate. Are they removable under the tappet cover & rocker gear?

2. I also want to replace the Valve stem seals, can this be done without removing the head. I realise you need the head off to compress the springs but was wondering if anyone new an easier option.

Oh p.s Ive been quoted $105 for a 3 speed transmission service in vic. Sound about right?

Vaccum Leak

I have WB holden Ute with a Blue 202 which squeals when decelerating from medium speeds(80-140). I'm sure its the vaccum, i was just wondering if anyone had worked with these systems and could direct me to the problem.

Sqealing noise from distributor

My distributor was making some noise, it took me a while to work it out because it would usually only do it for a minute or two after being started on a cold day. Then the noise went away. I don't think it was the cap or rotor button but it sounded like the bearings might be shot. However it doesn't make the sound anymore.

I was wondering how easy it is to find out if this is the case and how much it would cost to have it replaced.

Diff?

Hi everyone!
I have bought eh wgn, with recent 173 (2nd hand) been put in. As i drove home, i notice that no matter how much i step on the accel all it goes is 50 m/hr max! (free way)
As i have not much mechanic exp, i wonder if it diff or the engine that it been change (from 179 to 173) or it even somethingelse!!
Please help as i want to enjoy my eh on the free way.
**If it diff -as couple ppl been said- what is the good ratio for it (as i sometime drive on freeway), hope i not askig too much**

G'Day All

Can any whizzer out there recommend the right spark plug to use in my recently acquired HZ, it's 253 Trimatic, no mods except for duel fuel, no LPG available locally so only running approx 50% of time on LPG and does a lot of short trips ( less than 5klms )in 50&60 KPH zones in hilly area.
