Water leak :/

Big rainstorm in melbourne on sunday. And i discovered a leak i didnt know i had. Blowed if i know where it came from though.

1. It seemed to only drip for a while after the car had been standing, not while driving through rain.

2. It dripped down just to the left of the clutch pedal, seemingly comming around the handbrake down onto my foot.

3. Its not the heatercore or from the core surrounds.

4. Its not the drivers side airvent drain hose. I checked that and its dry.

5. the windscreen ahs been recently resealed, so i hope its not that, but there is no water i can see inside the car at the front of the dash.

GTS Dash Tacho not working

Wired up me GTS dash the other day and found that the tacho won't show anything over 3 grand - it'll show revs fine UP TO 3G's and drop back down when the engine does but simply won't go over it.

I doubt that the tacho is "sticky", the needle moves very freely and will flick up over 4 - 5 when the motor is revved (but drops straight back down).

Any ideas as to what could be wrong?

Poor spark

I have a HQ 1 tonner with a fully worked 308. A few weeks ago I decided to get an electric ignition (fire ball XR700) for it. After getting a whole new ignition system the spark is still very poor. You can hardly see it. Where do yous suggest the problem could be?

ENGINEER SHOP

Hi ppls, just wanted to ask. Does anyone know any decent engineers around Perth area metro or south? I have a 308 special needing serious pedantic hands to assemble the block. Needs, machining and grinding of parts. Balancing is essential and I desire a very high standard of machining to keep this grennade alive.

slippery box

Hey Gday and merry christmas,I was hopin somone might be able to help me out with a problem with a M20 that Ive just put in my HZ somtimes when Itake off in first It slips out of gear with a Huge bang does anybody know of an adjustment or any thing Ive tried adjusting the linkages .Cheers NUTOS

Pinging

Hi all, thank you for the advice with my recent water pump problems, replacing the jap crap with a genuine one did do the trick. Learnt a lesson the hard way...
However, i took the car to the mechanic to have the timing done. The timing was 15 degrees retard. When it was corrected the motor was pinging badly. Retarding the timing did do the trick. Back to 10 degrees retard. Now when under heavy acceleration or high revs the engine pings baly. However if slow acceleration at speed there is no pinging.
It is EFI the harmonic balancer is brand new (not reco. This has only just recently happened and there is no power, performance or economy loss on the engine.

Temp Gauge

Hi all, recently had to change the water pump in my VK EFI. After changing the pump, and thoroughly bleeding, the temp guage now stays at half way all the time. Is this normal??? As the before changing the pump the guage stayed just above the blue.
The thermostat and and hoses are also brand new. Could it be the radiator, it is original.
Any ideas????

Gearbox oil...

Hi anyone know the oil capacity of a Celica 5 speed box? Got one in the HR never changed the oil tho... Had to take the tail shaft out, and well lost all the oil. Looked like it was due for a change anyway. Last time i changed gearbox oil in my old M20 i just kept filling it up till it started to come out the filler hole on the side. Anyone else know the deal? I've put in about 1.75 litres at the moment, not sure how much more i should put in.

Brakes

I'm sure there a simple answer to this one.

My brake pedal won't return at the moment, which means that when you depress the pedal the brakes stay on - not fully, but enough to notice it. The only way of getting the pedal back up is to pull is back out. This only happens when the engine is on, otherwise there's sufficient pressure in the pedal.

Any clues?

Ball joint replacement

Is it hard to replace top and bottom ball joints.What tools will I need? Can a ball joint spilter done the job or do I need a press.

Holley 350 Setup 202

Hi again folks,

I got another question for you of a different vein. I realize that a 350 Holley on a stock 202 is not the best carb option however it is better than a stuffed stromie that I already have. I am wanting some advice in settup up the 350 to run as best as it can. I looked up the standard jetting etc on the Holley website for the 350 I have and this is the info:

Renew Kit: 37-1536
Needle&Seat: 6-504
Primary Main Jet: 122-61

OK,

I jumped onto eBay and found someone selling an electronic dizzy from a blue 6cyl motor complete with solid state coil and leads. This will be OK for a red 202 right? Any tricks or traps to fitting it? Do I need to use the cog off the end of my points dizzy or should the cog on the blue motor dizzy be fine?

Ping Monster

Recently my stock 202 started pinging a lot especially up hills. Also, running along the freeway it has less power than it ought to and has been getting hot. I checked the timing and sure enough it was advanced so I brought it back down which seemed to work for a couple of days. But one hot day later that week it started getting hot again and pinging like crazy. I re-checked the timing that night and it was retarded quite strongly so I re-adjusted it. Since then I re-set the timing once more (minor adjustment) the best I could but the pinging still occurs up minor slopes and the engine is running gradually hotter and hotter.

Backfire

Hey Guys...
Im having a bit of trouble with my 202. Last week it went for a service, they reconditioned the carby, new plugs, oil filter, new oil, tune up etc, all the usual stuff in a generaly service. Last ngiht when i was driving... it started backfiring, it is now backfiring regularly as i drive.
What could this be?
Any suggestions what to check for?

Sender Unit Removal

vacuum wipers

Hi, I'm a newby to this group. I've just bought a 54 FJ that I'm trying to register.
Where can I get parts for the vacuum motor that operates the wipers?
Anyone had exerience with these?
I think I need a gasket, and a couple of seals.
Then a good clean and a new hose should do the trick.

202 Fuel Problems

I've just recently rebuilt my red 202 from top to bottom, it is now 60 thou over with a mildly oversized cam. The problem I am having is that now it isnt getting enough fuel, I can put my foot down and it goes and then hesitates like its starving, I've found I can pull the choke on just a fraction and she comes good, but I can't very well drive around with the choke on all the time. It has a stock carby and no work done to the head, I tried to find out about different sized jets but the guy at the shop said that there is only one sized jet for these stromberg carbies and it is adjustable, however no amount of adjusting the fuel mixture will get it to run sweet, it idles like a mongrel dog.

blown diff

hey guys! my banjo diff just went out from under me today in the SL HZ(not happy jan)anyway i went to the wreckers to find out if they had a hx-wb statesmen 3.08 lsd discs brakes rear end & the price of it(they have one)my question to you guys is how much do you think it would be worth,cuz i dont wanna get ripped off and also how hard are they to put in,is it a strait swop or do i need a different tail shaft or is the 202 one ok and do i need a different handbrake cable. thanx guys
