HT 253 Differential

Hi Folks,
I have this bloody manual by Max Ellery, and it's confusing the hell outta me. I'm trying to investigate a worrying noise/movement which I think is an internal diff problem (possibly a chip of metal floating about in there somehow).
With all the jargon this manual uses, and the chopping and changing between proceedures, I can't make head nor tail of the dismantling instructions, can anybody point me at a more straightforward set of directions, so that I can pull down the bloody diff assembly and see what the hell is going on in there? I've not taken a diff assembly apart before.
Cheers

Tightening power steering box on WB Statesman

Any tips for tightening the power steering box (removing excess play) on my WB Statesman. I only have the workshop manual for HQ-J. Their steering box has the lock nut and grub screw adjustment like on my old Corollas. The WB seems to have a different setup with what appears to be a hex headed grub screw with no lock nut. I thought it might be a good idea to get some advice before I started fiddling.

Headwork in Brisbane (south?)

Hi all,

I want to have someone with a professional eye to look over a 3.3 head that I have and tell me what work should be done on it. This mystical person would end up quoting me a fair price (I am a poor man) and do the work. So is there anyone that you could recommend to do that for me?

Kim

Brake booster

When trying to bleed the brakes I'm not getting any fluid through the lines, their not blocked, none of the bleeder values are block and the master cylinder is ok too. It just seems like the brake booster is not pushing it through.

Need some advice

I need some advice guys. My HR is getting a delay when I go to start it, i.e. I turn the key and there is a delay of around a second and then it will fire. I'm thinking it sounds like my starter motor is on its way out but I'm not sure, I don't think my alternator is in too good a condition either or maybe it's the coil. The battery is only around 3 months old...any ideas?

Up [Naughty Pottyword] creek!!

Urgent help required fellas

Just putting a long overdue set of sparkplugs into the Q. Realised when i checked one out a few days ago they might not have been changed since the engine was rebuilt 6 yrs ago (have only had the car 6 months). Have changed 5 out of 8 without a problem, but no. 4, 5 and 7 are impossible to extract. Problem seems to be, esp. with no 4, that the nut section of the plug is too far into the head, so you cant grip enough of it to stop the wrench from slipping back and off the edges of the nut. with no 4 it would seem that in one spot a corner of the nut is actually sitting against the head material.

Gearbox woes

Went for a drive last night & the vacuum line from my trimatic to the inlet maniflod kept coming off every time i was accelerating too much because the hard line there is under the accelerator spring & it kept pushing the rubber tubing off the connector. In the dark, i must have pulled it a bit much or something because now it won't change gears unless it revs right out, up to 40mph to change to 2nd & 50mph to 3rd. It then really clunks down to 2nd when decelerating.
Any ideas what i have done or what to try to remedy this?

Oils aint oils

What oil is the best for a 192? I have been using HPR30 but when it gets hot the oil pressure drops heaps. So can anyone recommend something better?

Auto replacement....

G'day folks....

A good mate has decided to pull his HZ ute out of the shed and get her back on the road...woohoo!!!! We spent the weekend getting her running again - and as you'd expect with an old holden, after 12 months in the shed, we whacked in a new battery and she came to life after two or three cranks - as she fired we cheered and decided to have another stubby!

A quick zip up and down the road also fired up my mates memory...he needs to replace the auto...we are planning on doing it ourselves and I was wondering if someone could give me some tips on doing it...any info or pointers would be much appreciated...thank you in advance and have a damn fine day!!!

is it running to hot????

Hi guys:

My HR which is fitted with a black 202 shortmotor with the red head, water cooled 186S manifold. It does not run a thermo stat, Now when its about 24 degrees cel outside the temp gauge (VDO cockpit vision) sits on about 85-90 degrees. Should I pull a trailer, full or emty the gauge sits on a even 100 and, should also state that if we get a day like 30+ it will rise slightly over 100 on the gauge.
So is this running too hot, mind you it does not boil. I do run antifreeze/antiboil and the radiator was a brand new unit about 9 months ago.
anyone with ideas and thoughts please feel free to let me know. I'm not particully woried about it, but I just wonder though on real hot days.

5 speed help please

I could use a little help please. i have a celica 5 speed box in my EK. I've just had the tailshaft out and changed the uni joints. Not having a suitable plug I've let the gear oil drain out.
Now is the the correct fluid level:
(a) would be with the car elevated till the tailshaft is horizontal and and the gear oil to the level of the plug half way up the RHS of the box.
or
(b) car sitting normally and and the gear oil to the level of the plug half way up the RHS of the box.
or
(c)none of the above please explain
cheers

TOO HOT?????

ok my gem keeps getting extremely hot, like the guage goes rite up near the H. and this can only take a 5min drive to do so, ive taken out the thermostat to see if that was a problem, and it still does it. it will sit near cold for a while then all of a sudden the temp will skyrocket for no reason. it hasnt actually overheated like blew its load or anything. any solutions,

and my car pings its ass off anything ova 4000rpm or on down gearchanges. sounds to me like really bad valves.

cheers,

X2 carb's

Gidday Guys,

I will be fitting the X2 carbie set up to my EH ute this comimg weekend and I have a question Do I need to run a vacuum line from each carb and then Tee into the distributor? Or can I block the port on one carb and run a single line from the other carb? Shouldn't the vacuum be the same in one carb as in two? Any info greatly appreciated.
Thanks Geoff
