fuel pump help

hey,
is there a trick to fitting a glass bowl fuel pump to a 186?
I tried 3 times and still get a dribble of oil from the bottom.
run out of gaskets now.
using some loctite gasket sealer.
no leaks when I took it off.
pretty sure its coming from the join, not the little hole.

202 cracked head?

Hi. Red 202 overheated last week. Symptoms:
White smoke from exhaust then engine bay
Plenty of coolant in radiator
Coolant pi$$ing out of radiator overflow pipe when running
Watery oil leaking from rear of motor
Engine dies after a few seconds even with choke

I suspect I've cracked the head.
What you guys reckon?
Cheers 72MYQ

Automatic choke WB 202

G'day one and all

The automatic choke on my 202 (WB Tunna) stopped working all of a sudden and now the car won't idle at all, just conks out.
Worked before I changed the plugs (1.5mm gap), air filter, oil and oil filter.
Any ideas from the Brains trust?
Cheers All
Al

308 and 253 trimatics

Hi guys i have a 308 and a 253 trimatic with gearboxes, just wondering what they might be worth. Not sure if there running or not.

Also would it be worth getting them re drilled to fit a turbo patten. if so what sort of cost would i be looking at and where would be a good place to take them in Melbourne South east suburbs or along mornington peninsula to have it done. So from Dandnong to Frankston.

Thanks again

Carb soak

Been a while since I have been on here after my HX van exploded in rust & went the way of being parted out.
Currently trying to refurbish an old Varajet carb, and having difficulty getting it cleaned out. After trying a number of concoctions, latest is a 50:50 mix of Xylene & MEK, which one would think would shift just about anything, but after 3 days soaking it still won't remove the internal white deposits as shown in the photo. Anyone got any suggestions of good carby soak mixes?

EH Electrical Re-Visited

Hi all Just an update the problem with my EH wagon now seems to be solved. The problem was with 2 wires shorting internally with each other, the yellow for rear brake lights and the black for parkers and number plate light, they have been removed and replaced with new wires of the same colour and the lights are all working as they should. Thank you all for your suggestions and help it was all much appreciated.

Cheers

Chrisso

Sill(y) question

Been going cross-eyed over this for a few hours.

In the process of drilling out the spot welds I've snapped about three blunt drill bits, so i decided to cut in anyway and have a look before i get to buy a new bit.

I can't wrap my head around how to remove the inner sill properly, looks like the attachment point is jammed in a tight space above the rail.

Not sure if there is enough good metal to just drop a sheet from the existing inner top or not.

HJ VAN Rust Repair Panels.

Anyone know a local business, or decent panelbeater around Northen NSW to Brisbane, who supplies rust panels for a HJ van.. or simply someone who loves the early models and could help?

Trying to steer clear of Rares of K/Country.

Some guys simply don't make beaver panels and floor pans.

Tried Craig Vayne and Ray Taylor.
Willing to go to Craig for Sills, Rear 1/4 and tailgate.

Any more leads...

If necessary i'll go rares for the beaver but @300+ bucks it'd want to be good.

Any help,

Cheers,
Drew.

rebuilding fuel pump

Hi people.
I am overhauling my glass bowl fuel pump on 186 HG.
I have a kit and have read the holdenpaedia page. http://holdenpaedia....
can someone please tell me if the thread tape for the bolts and fuel line is just plumbing tape or something special.
should there be some kind of loctite on the bolts?
should there be gasket sealer on the main mounting to the block?
thanks

HT POWER STEERING RAM

G’day all,

I was told some years back that the Ram used in HK to HG Power Steer is interchangeable with the C2 Corvette Ram of the same era. Does anyone know if that is that correct? If not, what other options are there?

Cheers

Front wheel bearing seal?

I've just replaced front wheel bearings on my WB. There was a slight amount of play in the bearings on one wheel and while the bearings looked okay when I pulled them out (no discolouration or scoring, pitting etc) I thought it'd be cheap insurance to just replace them. Even with the new bearings, it has exactly the same amount of play... if I tighten the castellated nut to the next opening for the split pin, it just seems too tight, as in the torque applied on the nut increases a fair bit. I'm familiar with trailer bearings and the amount of play is acceptable but is it on a WB?

WB Statesman aircon hoses

I have had all sorts of grief getting my WB's aircon in order over the last year. Bought a reco A6 compressor (the original one had the clutch/pulley missing), new receiver dryer, NOS condensor, replaced the vacuum pods...
Yesterday I noticed that the air isn't blowing that cold anymore (just had a regas a few weeks ago when I had to replace the orifice tube).
One of the high-pressure ac hoses is leaking, just pin hole leaks but it needs to be replaced.
