HK Monaro restoration

I have owned my HK Monaro for about 8 years and have now decided it needs some restoration work - panel, paint, window rubbers, motor, auto...
It is pretty straight and original with the odd tiny dent and bit of rust in the spare tyre well. It has a 186 and T-bar auto (powerglide).
Can anyone recommend someone in Canberra who can do this sort of restoration work?
...or should i try and keep it original and unrestored for as long as possible?

A new found love...

Hey Everyone,

About six months ago I bought an old 1969 HT Panel Van for snowboarding/surfing trips. Initially I was worried that I may have bought a bomb and wasted my money but after several trips away, I know that it's probably the best car purchase I've ever made. It blows me away that this 30 year old car starts first time, every time, has loads of grunt and eats miles for breakfast!

So, I've decided that it's time to re-pay some of the love she's shown me already and bring her back to her former glory! Except, I don't know so much about holdens or restoring old cars.

I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of some good old holden wreckers and Panel Beaters in the Sydney area?

Lesson learnt

G'day, just thought I'd share what's been going on over the weekend.

I'm still recovering from three days of work over the long weekend, we were installing a new 308 into a mate's UC. A pretty straight forward job, until we started it on Sunday and couldn't get oil pressure.
After ever test we could think of, and pumping oil in every hole to prime the system, we finally decided we had to drop the sump and check the pickup. With the donk in the car I climbed underneath and took all the sump bolts out. We could just drop the sump enough to see where the oil pickup bolts to the block.

Surging problems!

Hi again
The other day i drove into town, and it was running fine, parked it, came back about 30 mins later, and the car took for ever to start, cranking and cranking, and finally when it was going it wouldn't run with anything less than half choke.
I got the car home, took apart the carbie, cleaned it all with carbie cleaner, and reassembled it. the problem was still there.
So i went and bought a fuel filter, thinking maybe it was dirty fuel. i fitted it, and have had it on for about a week now.
The car is now idling, but very rough, and it surges under normal acceleration. but its fine if i put my foot down, or take off really smoothly.

yella terror reds...going...going...gone this year

Hi guys and Gals

The rumor going around at the moment is that yella terror will be dropping the "RED" HEAD this year as theres not enough demand anymore, the blue and blacks are still going to be produced. Gary Thorpe at the HD/HR register is trying to get some numbers and trying to get a real healthy discount for the last batch so contact him at the register and lodge your interest, if any.

What's difference?

Hi folks,

I have an opportunity to pick up a VK for cheap. It has a black motor which is sick and needs replacing. I have a mate with a good blue motor from a VC but I would like to run VK injection on it. Is there any problems with just putting the VK black motor injection onto the blue motor?

X2 Twin Carbs

Hi all,
I would like to give my 179 a bit more bite and am thinking about putting on some twin carbies. I have looked around for a while and have found some X2 carbs, holden intake manifold and the X2 headers. The guy wants $110 for them. The carbs look as though they are OK, but they need a clean up. I have also found a guy who wants $90 for some X2 carbs (rebuilt and acid washed) with a holden intake manifold. But the heating jacket has been drilled out (for whatever reason).

My question is what are the X2 headers like? Is it worth getting the whole setup for $110? Or would I be better off getting the $90 set up and getting extractors, which would obviously be overall more expensive?

What a mess!

I am looking for a detailed wiring diagram that is reliable for an HR Ute. I have recently bought mine as a "fixer uper" and it sure does need some work. Firstly, I think its rather critical that I repair the wiring, as at present, the previous owner has bolts in the fuse box, to stop it from blowing fuses.

3.31 diff

I've got a HZ tonner with a 3.31 (stamped on the top) sailsbury diff. I've had a look in the manual, but this diff ratio is not mentioned. Can anybody shed some light what the diff may be off or was this an original ratio? Cheers, Darren.

town named HOLDEN!!!

I was looking on the net for some pictures of old holden badges. When I stumbled across a police badge with 'Holden police' on it. Turns out there's a town in I think, America. Called Holden.

balance pipe?

Anyone know if a balance pipe will quieten down a 2in dual system? I'm running a std 253, std header pipes and just had fitted a dual system. Really cool, meaty sound up to about 2000rpm then gets really brash and noisy. Went to another exhaust bloke, he reckons a balance pipe will make bugger-all difference to noise - better to get new mufflers. Any ideas whether this sound like BS or not?
