Triple 1 3/4 SU's

G,day, I was just wondering wether you cuold please tell me what the right needles for my 13/4 SU Carbies are. I am running triple 13/4 su's on my 186 cubic inch holden motor. it has a 25/65 mechenical camshaft and is higly ported and polished cylinder head which flows enough horsepower to make 282hp at half inch valve lift. The carbs have no ID tags on them, The neddles fitted are OA6 I Think, My engine also has extractors and a 2 1/2 inch straight through exaust. Two of the carbies have rubber mounted fuel bowls and one is soild. I am using nylon floats with adjustable metal tabs and spring loaded needle and seats. It would much appreacited if you could supply any info about what the RIGHT needles are.

VK Economy

Hi Holden Heads,

I've got a VK (Black 202) and recently got a VH dizzy and VH Carby (Fully jetted) for it as the EST computer stuffed up and then the old carby Shat itself.

Now the fuel economy is up to [Naughty Pottyword]e, I bearly get 350k on a full tank doing freeway driving. I also noticed i have less power now.

Im thinkin it has somethin to do with the spark advance/retard cos the carbys jetted properly. Anyone have ideas on what I should do. Any help would be greatly apprieciated.

Q Van back on the road at last!

Hello all,

This is a long read...

After a frantic few weeks juggling other commitments, getting enough $$$ for the last few parts and simultaneously helping a mate fit a new clutch in his Sigma, I finally got the 253 back together and the HQ Pano is back on the road.

I got a hold of a digi camera just before I bolted her back together, and I'll post some pics of the (very bare!) block, along with all the broken bits.

Lucky for me the GF's mum paid for a new Edelbrock performer manifold - nice shiny spanking bit of kit!

previous 60 thou bore, Crane cam (C241 - pretty mild), ported heads (gas inserts), performer manifold, extractors and big-ish dual system is the extent of the mods, plus countless hours of cleaning, prepping and reading!

Poor Kingsie! Down but not out!

Had a Nasty accident yesterday :(
Going through the intersection of Springvale rd and mitcham road in Melbourn Victoria.
A black Purgeot 504 comming the other way turned right directly infront of me.

Poor kingsie didnt have a chance :( *cries*
Was all his fault, he didnt try to deny it. He said he didnt even see me.

One wonders how you miss a bloody big kingswood... but whats done is done.

Fortunately i was proly only doing approx 50kmh through the intersection instead of the more typical 60-70 as there were 2 cars infront of me turning left.
So 50kmh + 1 second of locked brakes = 30 to 40kmh impact speed.

Body stripping

Gday all,

Was just wondering the best way to strip a car back to bare metal - is it better to sandblast it or (acid?) dip it?
I'm hoping dipping will remove all the rust and [Naughty Pottyword] on the car as well so I know exactly what needs repairing/replacing.

How much can I expect to pay for the body, subframe, and all panels to be stripped?

BP Ultimate Octane 98 brilliant fuel

G'day All,
I got black smoke from the Lead Replacement Fuel and a pinging too under heavy acceleration. I dont trust this LRP bull, its octane is 95 apparantly, I understand years ago the Tetra Ethyl Lead laden fuel used to be 98 octane then they started reducing the TEL in the name of reducing lead pollution resulting in lower octane fuels which I reckon would cause shorter engine life and performance in pre 1986 engines. Ive been testing different fuels and using valve savers (Flash Lube or Valvemaster) unleaded fuels, PULP(95RON), ULP(91RON), LRP(95RON), Caltex Vortex(95RON) were crap all giving pinging and [Naughty Pottyword]ty performance in my blue 202 and black smoke with the LRP on acceleration. BP Ultimate at 98RON is excellent, no pinging or other noise from the engine and the performance/acceleration is superb, although the price of it is the sacrifice you have not make, although you apparantly get more MPG with it which I would not be surprised about. So I recommend using flashlube or valvemaster and BP Ultimate instead of this LRP rubbish.

VH clutch slipping

I have recently rebuilt my motor, just put it back in...now the clutch is releasing right on the floor and slipping when the car is going. My mechanic tells me it is just the cable adjustment, but I am concerned it may be more serious like the pressure plate isn't applyling enough pressure, the clutch plate has plenty of meat and the pressure plate is near new. can anyone offer some suggestions?

weber woes!!!!

Hey there fellow Holden Heads.I took the advice of quite a few of you and removed my old Holley carb and installed a 34amd weber that I got off a mate. Now although the acceleration sounds alot more responsive,I cant get it to idle smooth and theres black smoke pissing out the back all the way from idle all the way up through the rev range.Ive adjusted the idle mix and doesnt make it any better. The mototr is pretty modified(cam head ,the usual stuff)but I wouldnt think it should make much difference.Has anybody else had the same problem with tunning, the jets are 140(primary)210(secondry)It seems to me that this is the problem but most of you guys sound like you were able to bolt it straight on with no dramas. Also I take it the diaphram with the big nossle goes to manifold vacum and the two little ones on the other side have the top one going to the dizzy and blank the other one off.Any help would be appreciated as its really winding me up(I'm an A grade qualified engine reconditioner so engines are easy but put a carb in front of me and I all turns to [Naughty Pottyword]!!)

Diaries of the HJ premier.

It's been 8 days since i drove from central victoria, to the big city (sydney), to buy a car i had not yet seen. To my surprise it looked just like the pics i have in the HJ section.
What i wasnt banking on is the cars ability to do 70 k's at 2 grand in first... Those M21 gears and the low-ratio diff sure make getting off the mark a slightly painful exercise...

Anyway, needs a few things done, interior doesnt look as good as the outside, stereo is lacking a fair bit, and the speedo... dont get me started...
