solex, don't f##k with me now

hi all,
just had a disturbing thought. If i have a set of solex lock keys could i use them on someone elses car which had also a set fitted or vise/versa. Coz they all look the same to me! [Naughty Pottyword], the only reason i got a set was because commodore keys can unlock almost every other pre-vn commodore!

Condensation in engine

Hi all, need some advice.

Ive noticed a creamy consistency to the oil in the top of the engine that im assuming is water mixing with oil. Im losing a decent amount of water from the radiator (no obvious leaks) so im assuming i have a head gasket problem. Is this the likely problem or could there be other causes? If it is the head gasket what damage ($) should i be expecting to get it replaced.

cleaning fuel blockage in secondary jets ?

hey guys, i have a severe flat spot when i floor my car. i am guessing that there isnt enough fuel getting into the carby when i boot it and the secondaries open up, now i run gas, and i never really floor it, but when i do on petrol just dies in the ass ... revs slowly drop instead of going sky high ...
is there any easy way to check if its dirty, and to clean the secondaries ?

Fuel Crisis

I have been thinking lately about the current situation regarding the petrochemical industry. quite simply crude oil is not going to be around forever and most of us will probably experience the end of the petrochemical era within our lifetimes. Oil can be synthesised but as yet nobody can synthesise petrol and more r&d is going into alternative fuel sources. LPG is still derived from crude oil, ethanol ruins our engines and hydrogen cells are still only a theoretical device. Electric cars are crap - nobody wants to drive one and electricity is even more expensive to produce. Almost every major car company in the world has hydrogen cell research projects, but our governments seem hell bent on running our cars on ethanol. The question I ask - IS PURE ETHANOL A VIABLE ALTERNATIVE TO PETROL?

How's it going everyone?

I need a little help, I need to locate a diagram of the carburretor vaccum system. I hope someone can be able provide me with the diagram or if someone can direct me to where I can get the outline for the VK 85 carburretor vaccum hoses (system). Any help would be appreciated.

I am looking to put a GTS dash in my HJ pano. Does anyone know if it is just a straight swap over from the original dash or do I need to do some modifications?

speedo cable giving me more trouble

i recently replaced my speedo cable because it used to leak oil (new seals wouldnt do it so i replaced it). It worked ok at the time. now with the new cable in, im having more probs. i used the same red gear that the other was attached to and seems in good condition. The other day it was reading about 20k less than what it should, which wasnt so bad. i just played with it a little today ( just jiggled parts, made sure they moved ok), now it wont go over 40k! does anyone know what the prob is.. i dont want more speeding tickets

Get it resprayed so it at least looks decent.

what engine is it???????

G'day all, just a bit of a question for you all. My farther just bought a 1961 vauxhall velox. the bloke he bought it off, stuck in a holden red 6, the only problem is we don't know what size the engine is. On the side were there's usually the size it has instead a 'HP'. I think it's a 186 but not sure. Can anyone please help. All info greatly appreciated.

flares on kingos?

has anyone got any pics (or know of any) of a hj - hx kingswood with flares? i didnt think about it till i saw some for sale the other day. I think they are great on toranas but im realy curious about how they look on other kingswoods. as i have never seen a kingo with flares, maby its because it doesnt suit? what do you people think?

Triple 1 3/4 SU's

G,day, I was just wondering wether you cuold please tell me what the right needles for my 13/4 SU Carbies are. I am running triple 13/4 su's on my 186 cubic inch holden motor. it has a 25/65 mechenical camshaft and is higly ported and polished cylinder head which flows enough horsepower to make 282hp at half inch valve lift. The carbs have no ID tags on them, The neddles fitted are OA6 I Think, My engine also has extractors and a 2 1/2 inch straight through exaust. Two of the carbies have rubber mounted fuel bowls and one is soild. I am using nylon floats with adjustable metal tabs and spring loaded needle and seats. It would much appreacited if you could supply any info about what the RIGHT needles are.

VK Economy

Hi Holden Heads,

I've got a VK (Black 202) and recently got a VH dizzy and VH Carby (Fully jetted) for it as the EST computer stuffed up and then the old carby Shat itself.

Now the fuel economy is up to [Naughty Pottyword]e, I bearly get 350k on a full tank doing freeway driving. I also noticed i have less power now.

Im thinkin it has somethin to do with the spark advance/retard cos the carbys jetted properly. Anyone have ideas on what I should do. Any help would be greatly apprieciated.

Q Van back on the road at last!

Hello all,

This is a long read...

After a frantic few weeks juggling other commitments, getting enough $$$ for the last few parts and simultaneously helping a mate fit a new clutch in his Sigma, I finally got the 253 back together and the HQ Pano is back on the road.

I got a hold of a digi camera just before I bolted her back together, and I'll post some pics of the (very bare!) block, along with all the broken bits.

Lucky for me the GF's mum paid for a new Edelbrock performer manifold - nice shiny spanking bit of kit!

previous 60 thou bore, Crane cam (C241 - pretty mild), ported heads (gas inserts), performer manifold, extractors and big-ish dual system is the extent of the mods, plus countless hours of cleaning, prepping and reading!
