number crunching wheel offsets AGAIN!!!!!!

I am reposting this AGAIN!!!

It is quite important to get the terminology correct when ordering or inspecting new wheels (or second hand)...Offset and Backspace are different terminologys that describe the same thing....Offset is the distance between the rims centreline and mounting face...if the mounting face is exactly in the middle, The wheel has zero Offset....If the mounting face is closer to the bacck off the rim/mag, The wheel is said to have negative offset....Naturally if the mounting face is further towards the front,then the wheel has a positive offset...Older cars (LIKE OLD HOLDENS) use negativley offset wheels (DEEP DISH)....While newer cars (LIKE COMMODORES) use a positivley offset wheel...Backspace is simply the measurement from the wheels/mag mounting face to the back off the rim/wheel.....PCD- pitch circle diameter is the imaginary circle that passes thru the centre of the wheels mounting holes....Falcon has a 5 on 114.3mm PCD while commodore has a larger 5 on 120mm...PCD is independent of the number of studs,you could have 4,5 or 6 stud wheels on the same PCD....Finally the last one is the wheel spigot or centre bore (THE HOLE IN THE BACK OF THE WHEEL)...The wheels spigot must fit the hub perfectly as it carries the cars weight-NOT THE WHEEL STUDS AS MANY PEOPLE BELIEVE!!!!! This is why older-style mag wheels that use shank lug nuts are illegal (even tho you can buy them)SO IF YOU ARE WONDERING IF YOUR MATES WHEELS OF HIS COMMODORE WILL FIT ON YOUR H SERIES HOLDEN....THE ANSWER IS NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!

head identification

hi guys, i was wondering if anyone could help me identify a holden red 6 head that i've got.
the numbers on it read as follows:

7437395 HOLDEN G149 1 L

the guy who i got it off said it was a low comp. 186 head because it came off his 186, but now that i've spotted the "G149" on it i'm thinking that its off a 149...anyone got any ideas or know what model its off?!

sand bending warning

I found an old article today about bending the exhaust by filling with sand.....after seeing some posts on this site the other day on the same topic I thought I'd post the warning that went with it....
"Ensure the sand is perfectly dry because any moisture in the sand will turn to steam when heated and shoot the bung out of the end like a cannon"

Berlina

Hi, I was wanting some advice, I own a 2000yr holden berlina station wagon due to a smash i am wanting to sell it but which would be better sell as a whole car or as parts, the passenger side has no exterior damage driver side has exterior damage to the front door bonnet is fine interior has no damage, motor still runs like a baby as i had it going the other day to put it on a car trailer, I also have photo's i can e-mail any one thats wants to see the car, any help would be appreciated and what do you think it is worth? it was the first car i bought on my own and if any one wants to know what happened i can tell them it just hurts a little.

Speedo Driven Gear

G'day,
Just wondering if any one can help me establish which driven gear ( the plastic gear cog thing at the gear box end of the speedo cable ) suits which diff ratio.I pulled a dark green one out of a hq with a m21 and a 3.36 diff, and am assuming it's only the diff ratio's that determine which colour driven gear is required. If anyone knows all the colours of driven gear there are and what they suit I would be very greatfull.
Any info at all appreciated.

All Holden Day 2004

All holden Day at Claredon Showground opposite Richmond RAAF Base in Western Sydney 1st August 04 plus 2 day swap meet 31st July & 1st August
costs $30 to enter get a goody bag worth $50 and enjoy a great day with about 500 other Holden nuts like myself
Last year over 520 cars attended and over 5000 people attended the show and shine without those that attended the swap meet. All proceeds go to worthwhile charities and All Holden Day is non profit, and is run by the combined Holden Car Clubs in NSW with support from Holden.

Old holden with red engine wanted

Hey Everyone,
The old man has decided he wants a surf mobile, ihe would love to use my EH but i wont let it happen. So pretty much we are after an old holden (not fussed on what model they are all good) red engine preffereably wagon for under $3000.

low compression 186 head

how do you tell if the head is low compression? does it have anything stamped on it anywhere specifying what it is? i need a low compression 186 head so i can whack my supercharger on, and i need to be able to identify one!

HOW TO: Diagnose and fix that rough idle

Ok, some thoughts and tips on the painful and elusive yet generally simple to fix problem of a rough as guts idle which makes your baby seem like the rusted out old crapbox that we all know it is not. I am attempting to explain the circumstances at engine idle, the systems used to make it work and some simple yet effective methods of getting yourself out of trouble. Please anyone feel free to correct me on any misinformation I may accidentally put down here.

Engines as many of us will know can be set up (mostly through valve timing) to be more efficient at different ranges of RPM's, the most ideal situation would be a motor moving at extremely low RPM with none of the adverse effects of high speed operation (but none of the benefits either) in which case the valve timing can be set to optimize low speed operation. This is however not the case for domestic vehicles and in order to get any power with some degree of economy we need to optimize a certain higher RPM range, this is generally NOT the idle speeds. To counter the problems of idle, being that low air velocity makes the fuel and air not mix properly, engine manufacturers generally (and still to this day) make the idle mixture rich. The other problem needed to counter is that the spark is generally weaker at idle RPM and the fuel more difficult to ignite due to its poor mixing. There are many systems on both new and old cars used to counter these effects, vacuum and centrifugal advance in the distributer and idle circuits in the carbie.
