holden 186 carburetor problems

hi everyone, my name is andrew, im 17 years old,
iv got a holden 186, and i seem to be having trouble with the carburetor. When the engine is idling, there should be no vacume advance. When i open the throttle fully, the vacume is very minimul. the ports and cables arn't blocked, and im stumped to whats wrong with it.
It could be that, a while ago i replaced all the gaskits on the carburetor, and when i took the thing apart, the little wire restrictor fell out, and i wasn't sure where it was suppose to go, so i just guessed. the engine seemed to run ok, apart from that it has barly any vacume advance. Please help, the car drinks to much....Does anyone have any tips on improving the economy to??

Reving holden 186

hi
i have heard of people getting their holden 186's reving easily up to 7000rpm. Iv never had a tacho on my engine so i dont know how high it revs up to, i certainly know that its not as high as 7000rpm, but i want to know how to get the engine reving this high.

can any one help me with engine identification ???

i just bought a bedford with a holden v8 but i cannot find any info as to which it is, it has a rochester 4brl and trimatic the engine casting number is QR264488 the intake manifold is stamped 2823087 and the heads are stamped 2812174 -- i found a racing rulebook on the net that said that 2812174 were 308 heads is that right if so is it a 308 block or is it a mongrel

VN STARTER MOTOR

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET TOO THE FRONT BOLT SECURING THE STARTER MOTOR IN A V6 VN PLEASE ITS GOT ME STUFFED APART FROM PULLING OUT THE ENGINE. THANKS IN ADVANCE ADRIAN.

Position Vacant

Due to the recent departure of one of our users here we are looking to fill a special position for a qualified mechanic who has way too much knowledge on the subject of Holdens. With the direction being able to deliver mail order "bolt on kits" to many models of Holdens in the areas of, spec engines, power steering and brakes as a start.
Requirements.
1. Must be willing to help and teach and instruct others here.
2. Must have a happy disposition.
3. Must want extra paid work.
4. Must want to build smich engines to spec for mail order.
5. Must play nicely with others.
6. Must play nicely with us, and not ignore our advice repeatedly.
7. Must always have safety in the back of their mind.

Mate,

Sounds like you know a lot about cars especially Holdens and I believe a lot of the info is correct and brillant BUT dude trying being calmer and explaning everything to people in the simple terms. We all aint PRO-Mechanics and some of us (as in myself) have been trying to teach themselves everything.

Pls for my sack and for your own keep your cool because with great information and great COOL comments a smile appears on an owners face and yet another person is happy with the information provided and with the knowledge that their GREAT AUSTRALIAN HOLDEN will live on FOREVER!

how are we men?,

i'm buiding a 253 red motor and i'mn gion to put a redline torker manifold,vn heads,big cam and i'm goig to bore it out 60thou and put over sized pistons in it,does anybody know what a set of over sized pistons will cost me and there got to be half decent ones.

350 HOLLEY USERS

i need all info i can get as in bolting one onto my 202. i know you have to either get a manifold or an adaptor plate to suit. but how does everything hook up? i.e. accelerator cable. etc

and how does the 202's handle them? my 350 holley is jetted for a 253 at the moment. does anyone know the sizes of the jets and the powervalve are supposed to be for the 202? and will the jetting be ok until i get around to doing it.

Help with my 253 distributor

First time to thise site,
I;m looking for a bit of help. Ive just removed cleaned and
fixed my distributor from a 253 that I have sitting in
an old Landcruiser, I know, I know. Anyhow having as usual
more enthusiasm than brains I'm stuffed if I can figure out
how to put it back in just the place it came from.
I read through some old posts and gave lining up this and that a shot but I'm not even sure which is S.P No1 to
