i have my tri matic in a trans shop, while its there i am either going to change to a half bellhousing or get a convertor with nuts attached, previously i had a full bellhousing with a hole cut in the bottom to do the nuts up, then you have to rotate the fly wheel again to torque the bolts before, i have no access to the front crank bolt without pulling out all the fans, radiator & crap.

options are go to a half bellhousing, get a convertor with attached nuts and use standard high tensile bolts.
or
get a half bellhousing and keep the ARP torque convertor bolts and nuts.

its a supercharged six.
i guess what i need to know is do half housings brake easy or do torque convertor bolts shear off easy when you have extra torque and power.

gday all im looking at getting another car to use as a daily so i can pull the prem off the road for a tidy up. will consider almost anything but must be in vic (central vic preffered) must have rego and must be in reasonable condition. wanting to pay up to 2 grand for a suitable car, would prefer a ute and manual but anything pre wb would be great. let me know what youve got as im looking for a quick purchase.

Some might say I should be in gaol for steeling. I got my blue uc for $3500 in almost as is condition with a reco 202. Its since got new wheels & trim Im the 3rd owner & it had 98500kms on the clock. It sat in the shed for 10 years he said I need it gone. Its now my daily driver & Im still laughing

How can i stop body roll in an EH i have just had the diff shortened so the tyres fit up in the guard, So when i'm traveling in a straight line there is no scrubing.
The body touches the outside of the tyres when i travel around a sweeping bend.

I have been looking at replacement engines and replacement blocks and I have concluded the following, subject to change;

perhaps complete engine may have been removed from the assembly line, the 1948 to HR Master parts book refers to complete 149 HD engines being available from current production.
If you wanted any other size it looks like you could only buy a short motor or a block with pistons.

The 186 was first available in the HR in three forms 186A Pefix and two versions of the the 186K then apparently from some sources a handful of the 186S prefix engines for the last of them, though the books do not indicate this.

The Master parts book for models up to HR was a good start but I havn't seen a modern version?

A couple I can think of right now are;

6cyl red / blue fuel line to vac advance pipe clips same as VB - VL etc body line clips.

EGR 6cyl and 8cyl the same.

Some Torana body clips same as HK, T, G,

Most engine componets except for 73 Torana starters, alternators, engine mounts and brackets.

Starefire 4 and 6cyl rods.

Torana and Holden Door handles.

Torana and Holden bonnet release brackets.

Holden engine bay clips interchange

Torana, HR, HK HT HG mudflaps.

Torana & HR disc callipers.

LH Torana and LJ speakers,

Torana rear speaker and Statesman.

I have one whole UC Torana for wrecking. It runs a 202, doesn't blow smoke, virgin bore - $150. Trimatic gearbox with left hand shifter and torque converter - $100. Ten bolt diff (6 cylinder) ratio unknown - $100. Various other parts for sale starting from $10. Also for sale one set of original 5 spoke dragways (13x7's) in very good condition, no gutter rash, dents or scratches - they come complete with centre caps, nuts, lock nuts and washers - two tyres are 205/60 with approx. 90% tread, the other two are 215/50 with not much tread left - $400. I have a UC Torana Sedan (Starfire), which is in really good nic and I would like to consider changing it to a V8. I am aware that this was not a factory option, conversions have been done many times in the past and that to do so in Victoria (where I am), requires the apparently dreaded involvment of an Engineers Certificate.

What I am interested in knowing, is whether anyone has done one recently in this State and if so do they have details of an Engineer who knows the project, shoots straight in terms of communicating what is required and can perform their part of the process in a timely manner with confidence at a reasonable price.

Any one going to hanging rock on the 14th????

can anyone tell me what the marking inside the crankcase are for?
I think they are there to identify a block by the year for times when a engine number might have rusted away etc.

In 1964 they did not have markings, the earliest one I have is a 1966 block with two verticle lines scribed into the casting core this produces a raised marking.

I also have a block from 1983 whick has no marking so they may have droped it this by this stage.

Between 1966 and 1980 all the blocks I have are marked the only anominally is in 1973 where I have two blocks cast two hours apart with different markings, the only explanation that I can think of is that they reused a 1971 casting core as the 2 short horizontal lines match, the rest of 1973 seem to have all had the X marking.

I am looking for a 202 engine block to replace one that is well and truely past it's use by date, I would like to match the batch date as on the picture below, ( 5 M 3 ) to keep things more original.
I am not bothered about the engine number though.

A 16 G 3 would be useful also.

is there a list of engine codes anywhere?
These are the two letter codes originally printed onto the rocker covers, this is the number referred to on the build sheets ( Broardcast sheet )

Each type of engine was given a code, for example a 202 that was fitted to a HQ was esentially the same as the 202 fitted to the 1973 and 1974 LJ Torana, however may have had different codes due to externals like the Alternators and rocker covers which were different.

To start with I can tel you that;

1973 LJ 202 Torana code is CG
1973 LJ 173 Torana code is BD
1972 & 73 XU -1 Torana code is AC

so if anyne has a build sheet or an original engine that has been stored undercover for a while, have a look you may be surprised at what you find.

I fitted a Bosch Hi-Torque Starter to the UC yesterday.

A very easy upgrade since the unit is so much lighter than the original Starter.

It's made Starting even quicker. The lighter Battery load leaves more energy for driving the Coil so more Spark is available under Cranking.

My stock gas powered 202 UC Torana uses about 17 litres of gas per 100km.It is an auto with 205/60/13s, will an aussie 4-speed with 225/50/15s make a difference to its economy? If no,what can I change to give it better economy?

Hello holden lovers just wondering if my red 202 will have better economy & more power with a 12port head. It's done 120,000 kms 20'000 kms since rebuild.Still stock with a balanced bottom end. Runs straight gas with an electronic ignition. Any info would be appreciated.

With some past discussion here on the cost of restoration and some very differing opinions and facts - what are your thoughts on what a resto should cost? What should be involved?

1. What do you consider a restoration?
2. How far is too far OR is it ever far enough? Can the average old Holden be restored for what cost and why/how?
3. Should every item or system in a car be given the once over or should it be left alone 'if it looks OK'?
4. What do you think you could restore your car for? -(Be realistic and take into account EVERYTHING you have to spend.)
