LH,LX&UC parts

Hi all, I'm getting rid of all my left over Torana parts that have accumulated over the years following a resto. Too many items to list so if your after something from the LH-UC range of Torana's let me know and I'll see if I have it. As well as bits and pieces I have a UC sedan shell that has good floors, sills and turret and I'm happy for you to purchase cuts for rust/accident repairs. I'm in Moss Vale, that's approx 120 k south of Sydney. I'm happy to have people come and have a look, package items for post and or courier.

Torana drop tanks

Hi all, I'm looking at putting my LH slr5000 replica on NSW H plates. I can join a local club without any drama but I'm not sure if the car would be allowed with a drop tank. The NSW RMS say that the car must be at least 30 years old so no problems there, they also say that it can have "period accessories and options" if desired. So my question is, when did drop tanks first start being fitted to Toranas? I'm thinking it was around 1977 and with the A9X's but my car is a 75 model, anyone have info stating that they were fitted earlier?
Thanks in advance. Mal

308 cam retaining bolt

Currently rebuilding a 308 and I noticed that the oil hole in the camshaft retaining bolt had been welded up. Now I suppose this was done to reduce oil pressure loss through the hole. Has anyone seen this done before? I was also wondering if there are any negative aspects of this? I would be interested to hear your feedback.
thanks Mal

Head work so far

Hard work, but worth it..
A couple of pics to show where I am up to..
First of the bare head, after degreasing, they were shockers..
Then a couple of some of the equipment I used..
note the emery cloth roll and the result of a bit of contact cement, spiral wound sanding cones..
then a shot of the first finished exhaust port, and finally first cut of the exhaust valve after using the seat cutters and valve refacer...
A little more work needed, but fark it's hard doing it all by hand, still better than paying 800 odd to get it done..

More Valve Job tools

I was so very impressed with the job the small hand valve refacer was, I searched for the next model up, the 525 mini lathe..
Found a brand new old stock one in the states, the bloke that was selling it got it from his father who used to work for Zim..
It still has the wax coating on the cutter, and even has the cotton bag all the parts came in, only opened to take pics, fragile yellow instruction sheet, as the unit would be 50 years old. unused..
They sell today for around $500-600 US, plus shipping, I got this one to my door for $250 AU.

Valve job, tools

This is the valve seat cutter set I bought.
I researched after I bought it, turns out that the Van Dorn company was bought out by Black and Decker in 1928, I then found an advert for this very kit, dated December 1928, so this kit is around 90 years old...
Amazed at the quality and still resounding sharpness of the cutters..
Also has Sioux Reamers and guide burring tools, extra pilots, just got a grin from ear to ear.
The hand crank Zim Valve refacer is another old American tool, did a full set of valves in 30 minutes.
