charcoal canister

can someone explain to me if the charcoal canister in early commodores can stuff up and if so what happens or what can happen if it does stuff up? like get clogged or whatever?

vc commodore clutch pedal and clutch cable removal

how do I get the clutch pedal and clutch cable out? or alternativley how do I remove the whole manual pedal box?

350 holley fuel rich running issue

for some reason my holley 350 is leaking fuel in the vacuum chamber behind the power valve making my car run really rich, but still pretty good.
I have a lumpy cam in it, with 107 lobe sep and 287 #50 duration with 430 valve lift.
the vacuum is at 13inch which is normal for a hot motor to have low vacuum like that, so ive got currently a 7.5 power valve.
at first I thought the power valve that was in it was faulty so I replaced it.

Do V6 and V8 Commodores / Statesmans use the same auto trans? (T700?)
The bolt pattern is the same on the 6's and 8's (Chev pattern?)

is it worth it to hot up a 253?

I know you bore it out, bigger valves, lumpy cam all that sort of thing, but can you, like a 308 to 355, stroke it a bit? is it worth it to hot up a 253? AND if I did, will the motor be small enough to run a small 8 bolt salisbury diff a trimatic and a standard brake booster ... Im just throwing it out there I wouldnt mind an 8 in my commy but I if I put an 308 worked I think ill have to change too many things to accomodate the extra horses. if someone could enlighten me on the old 253 capabilities and incapabilities and what I need to change from 6cyl running gear.

vc vb - vl front doors...

vc vb - vl front doors...are they the same? Im almost certain there is a few mm difference in the length of the doors... the vl door appears to be slightly shorter than the vc door.
I think this cos my vc door got damaged and I got told vl door would fit, that they were the same vb to vl.
I got a vl door painted it and had it fitted and the gap where it meets the gaurd is at least 5mm wider than the passenger side original front door.
so Im trying to work out, once n for all, if vl doesnt fit right, or if theres another issue there.

bore sizes

if a blue 202 is bored out 40thou o/s what does that equate into in inches? ALSO if my head gasket is stuffed and i need to replace it do i need a gasket to suit the o/s bore size?

oil in manifold

what other than a bad pcv valve or cracked pistos, bad rings, or dodgy stem seals can cause oil getting into manifold??
The car sounds like it backfires on idle, then when you rev it it kinda 'whop whop whop'!! it has no power under load and drives like it misses. it idles smooth except for the little backfire sounds. when it initially started i thought a lifter had collapsed but i checked it all rockers are tight and lifters seem good.
everything evaluated.. i seem to have concluded a part of my head gasket has [Naughty Pottyword] itself...

VC Wiring Question

g'day,

ive just put my engine back in the vc after rebuild, it's running a blue 202 with trimatic. I've wired it all up except one wire. it's a pink/tan looking wire and its in the same loom plastic for the anti dieseling solenoid but im not sure where exactly it would go. i know its for instrument lights and fuel/temp gauge on the dash because i thought it hooked up to the starter motor and when i did that it iluminated all the dash dummy lights even with no key in the ignition. any help would be amazing

vc fuel gauge problem

I have a vc sl commy and the fuel gauge doesn't work. When I got it the wire coming from the tank wasn't connected to anything. Since that I've had a look at the back of the cluster and there was only a blue plug in the back, but 2 spots for plugs so I connected a plug to the black cable from the fuel tank and plugged it next to the blue one. Fuel gauge is still not working. Does it need to be grounded before plugging it in? or am I completely wrong with what I'm doing? Can't find any diagrams, so Any help would be greatly appreciated
