what a trip

Image:

What a trip. 3days and over 1200 key doing the Chrissy thing seeing the family in my HJ PREM from Cairns to Port Douglas up to Mareeba on the Atherton tablelands down to Innisfail to Townsville and than back home. Not only with the wife and kids but with our old Holden and all went well, well it did rain ha ha.
A couple of years ago i got one of those wiper motors from castle rod shop with the conversion kit. as i live in NTH QLD it rains a bit ha ha, we can get 100mm in a 12 hour.
This wiper motor got a work out and NEVER MIST A BEAT.
"IF your going to replace yours, than this is the G O"
This was taken when we got home. and had a quick bath and is now put to bed ha ha (my wife yells,"don't forget to give it a hug and kiss goodnight")

Putting a 253 into a HJ ute

Hi All!
I'm new to mucking around with cars as such, at least in terms of giving them new life, but have a few questions about a project I'd like to tackle. It may not be everyones cup of tea but it is just an option that I have infront of me....

I have a 253 engine, a complete HJ ute with a lot of rust in the body, and a '35 chev pick up body.
The chev body has a bit of sentimental value for me but is not currently in good shape, but regardless I want to bring it back to life and is the main motivation for the project.

The Mysteries of the Beaver Panel

Would like to replace the beaver panel in my HQ.

I see you can buy replacement beaver panels from Rares, and I see where the bottom section is spot welded to the underside but I'm not sure where the top section stops.

My questions are :

1) How do I remove the existing beaver panel without damaging the metalwork it attaches to?

2) Is replacing this piece beyond the capabilities of a relative novice?

I'm prepared to purchase a welder for this fix and others I need to do.

350 chev overheating

Hi,

I have a 350 chev with an overheating issue. I have a new alloy radiator, twin thermo fans with alloy shroud, thermostat at 82'C. Also taken off the water pump checked the clearance and all ok. Probably get 2 or 3km down the road and gets up to 3/4, almost in the red on the temp guage.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

Rear Exhaust Mounts

Silly Question Alert.

These bits can be mounted a few different ways and I don't have an example to look at. If someone could post a pic of the correct setup I would be very appreciative.

Does the "leg" of the bracket sit inside or outside the exhaust pipe? Does the leg hang down or point up? As I said, a pic would be fantastic!

Thanks :-)

Life expectancy, my engine ,not me :0

G'day ,
Be interested to hear from Ben and others of you guys that build , or have had built a mild Red 6 , or V8 ,doesn't matter for the purpose of the question . My HJ has a red 202 , only 5000km's since a quality rebuild from a highly respected performance shop (it's a nice engine). I won't list the work done ,however it is all good quality, reputable brand components ,and assembled (I trust ) with due care and attention.
So my question really is : providing it gets the best of care and maintenance (engine oil with zinc for the flat tappet cam etc ) , is there any reason it should not last as least as long as a factory built engine ?
To my mind it should do 200 - 250,000 k's or more ?? .

Hj ute handbrake bracket setup

Hi guys,

I am trying to put together the handbrake cable and brackets on my HJ sidestyle ute and cannot find a pic of the correct orientation of the brackets that sit under the floor pan.

Having trouble trying to navigate through Holdenpaedia as the "brakes" link doesn't show much for the handbrake system.

I lost the brackets and bought a set through evilbay, but not sure if they are a complete set (I have fitted them but dont have good tension).

Any links or pics would be immensely appreciated.

Paul.

HJ 253 2barrel auto-choke line..

Hi,

I've got a HJ running a 253/2barrel that hasn't had a proper cold start as long as I've had it.
The air bits all seem to be there - butterfly in the intake with vacuum lines and heat tube from the manifold..
..but the choke, not so much!
Someone has cut-off the original air line many years ago (was on gas), which is the thing I most obviously need to replace.

Here is a picture of mine currently:

These are some replacement lines on ebay..:

Weber 34adm on red 202 throttle cable bracket

Hi

I am putting a 34adm on my 202 using a redline adaptor to the original manifold. I read people saying about making a bracket for the throttle cable. Just wondering if people had a picture/diagram of what is needed or if someone had a good bracket they wanted to sell.

Is it easier to fit a cable off an XF ? If so how do I go about attaching it.

Thanks
