Auto electrical problem

Some help needed!

I've got a HQ that is almost perfect except one small problem that annoys me. The headlights on both high and low beam waver a little in intensity while driving. In sync with this is a wavering of the lights that illuminate the dash! Ive check the current being drawn from the battery which is okay so the problem is downstream. Any ideas anyone?

URGENT help needed for tomorow PLEASE!!!

hey all again!! my new woe is that all i hae is extractors off the engine block.... and tahts it!! its way to loud and i have to goto work at 5 in the mornign so i feel heaps bad setting ppls alarms off when i start my car in the mornings

was just interested to know were i could go tomorow to get an exhaust done?? tomrow being SUNDAY.. cause i need to be able to have the car back for work on monday.

Wiring Diagram Needed

I was hoping someone might send me a photo copy of the under dash wiring diagram of a HQ, I have looked everywhere for a second hand manual but cant find one, some idiot has made a major mess under the dash of my ute, ive only had the beast for a month and the itch to start restoring things is taking hold.

red light, blue light

guys

Just thinking then that i have no idea what the differences are between blue and red holden engines, both 6's and 8's. i did a quick websearch and found not a clue. So what are the principal mechanical differences between the two, particularly in the case of the 253? i'm sure lots of people know, but I'm something of a novice, so bear with me.

Diff on the way out

My diff has just about S@#t itself in my HQ ute. Its running a 308, trimatic with shift kit and 3000 stall. Dynoed at 180HP at the wheels. Just wondering what would be the best diff ratio to get? It doesn't do a lot of work but it does mainly highway miles, so fuel economy is a factor as well (people do ask me why a V8, I tell them once you drive one you know).

Any help appreciated.

door,boot rubbers

Hi all....

I'm on the Central Coast but work in sydney...I was wondering if anyone could put me onto a panel beater / mechanic who wouldn't turn there nose up at replacing the door and boot rubbers and aligning the doors so I dont get the wind noise. I am away on business alot and just haven't got the time.....

chassis mods

g'day guys

this is a touchy question cos I know there are some people out there who seem to think making a HQ handle defeats the point of owning one, but i was wondering what kind of chassis mods were available to stiffen up the response of a HQ around the twisties. some people will wince, but im moving from a kawasaki to a holden (don't ask) and...yeah, make fun of me if you want. Is there stuff like strut tower braces and aftermarket anti roll bars available?

shagged 4 speed news

G'day again fellas
Its me with the jumpy 4 speed. Just to let the "lhgpoobaa" know he was spot on with his diganosis of my gearbox; totally shagged. i got a look inside it this morning, and the selector sleeve thingy (technical term) and teeth are pretty badly flogged. So it's winding out of first under load and 2nd gear will be next. Lots of bits need to be replaced, for me this spells "bye bye gearbox". The shifter itself was also bollocks; missing the pressure washer, which probably led to the damage. Just wished I'd spotted it when i bought the car, but it shifted sweet then : [

anyone know the rocker arm torque settings for the Red 202 ?

my local supercheap hasn't got one in stock till wednesday and it's holding me up....

Wiring Woes

I'm trying to wire a WB Statesman column into the Qute and have run into a problem that has me baffled...

I made up a conversion wiring diagram from the HQ and WB wiring diagrams and it all looks fairly straight forward (connect lt blue to lt blue, etc). The indicators had me stumped for a while until I discovered that the yellow feed for one of the rear indicators turns lt blue in the middle of the WB loom...

Dammit!

I posted a while ago about my HQ jumping out of 1st. Thanks for the feedback, guys. I took it to the local repairman (using gears2 3 n4) and he seems almost certain that 1st gear is flooged out, and its not the linkages that are at fault. I'm pissed off cos i only bought it 3 weeks ago and it has been fine up until a week ago.
He says it wont be cheap though, like 400-500 to get the gear replaced.

HELP! 253 Rocker Problems

*PS* i posted this in another thread but didnt think anyone noticed and im in need for some help pretty urgently.. i went and bought a screw in compression tester, torque wrench, some of the Lead replacment and a How to rebuild your Holden v8 book.. ANYWAYS... here is my question..

Hey all thank you VERY much for the help with my car :D Out of all my mates (they have Swift GTI's and 4age's etc..) im the only one with a DECENT engine and they cant help me much, and it doesnt help either that i live with my mum so i dont have anyone to help me out :P

Converting a 253 to PULP

Hey all! Ok.. i have a 1973 HQ with a 253 and im pretty sure its a blown head gasket.. because when i tramp it.. it stalls.. AND im loosing coolant so i kinda put 2 and 2 together :P

my problem is that if im going to change the head gasket, while im at it i thought why not change the heads??

and i just read the post about them getting rid of LRP so getting new heads was a great idea i reckon anyways :P

polishing teeth

G'day fellas

Just became the proud owner of a 74 HQ Premier a few weeks ago. This is my first car (having a streetbike before now) and I'm still getting used to driving with a 30 yr old 4 speed box, being used to the 5 spd on my folks subaru (piece of crap). I've had a couple of jams, and after getting stuck between 1st and reverse at the petrol station I had to knife it out of lock with a screwdiver.

HQ GTS Monaro

Hey guys...

After looking for about 2 years I finally bought my car. I am the proud 3rd owner and the car is a gem. The 253 in it is the orginal motor, it runs ok but is a bit tired. The door rubbers are shot on both doors and if I was to do that I would also go around the quarter windows. Has anyone had similar work done to there holden ? If so how much did it cost and where did you get it done ( I am in the Sydney area so it would hav eto be around there )I would give it a go myself but am too scared I'd scratch or break something. Also I would like to put in a mild cam and do some engine work, would anyone be able to tell me what would be the best thing to do and what sort of bucks would it set me back...

202 mods

G'day all,

I have a red 202 and I was told by "a wise man" to get the head flowed to increase give it a smidgeon more power. Okay, I was just wondering if anyone could give me a rough price for this and how effective would it be. I was told by about $100 to get it flowed and then add on another $130 for a new cam- sound about right? (would it be worth spending extra dosh on the cam?)Are there any other costs at all or probs in doing this that any1 knows of? My 202 already has a decent amount of power- 350 holley, extractors, 2.5" exhaust. What do all you's think- would this be money well spent (and give engine more grunt)? or not to bother?
