HR Sedan - 13 x 7 rims

Hi everyone,
Just joined the group and will probably pester you all from time to time for some advice / tips . So thanks in advance .
I just got myself a HR sedan late last year and would love to keep the original look going . I used to run widened rims on a HR ute I had years ago . Pretty sure I had 6's on the front with 205/60's and 7's on the back with 225 / 60's . I would like to do the same with the sedan except run the same width all round so I can rotate tyres .

HR Brake Boosters

The only number I can find on an old PBR brake booster I have is a patent number 260550.

Does anyone know how to tell if it is out of a HR as I want to keep it all HR?

A HR Brake Booster (PBR) has a Holden replacement part number of 7433728

But is that stamped on the early HR factory boosters although likely PBR made.

HR Sales Brochure

Happy Australia Day from Perth.

For all HR lovers - I found the ultimate HR buyers guide.

The Holden facts must be from 1966 as there is no 186S option.

I loved green special centrefold as it is exactly like my pops.

The X2 - not premier option cream HR standard is so clean
with only X2 on the front quarter panel.

I've never seen a list of the HR interior colours before.

Happy 50th anniversary to all HR's (hit 51 in April!!)

Coolant system

If working on cooling system and needing to wait on parts for two weeks are you better off to drain it or leave it full of water? I had it full of water so I can inspect it all once work is completed and don't have to worry about coolant going all through engine bay if there is any leaks. Will it rust much in two weeks?
Will run a coolant flush before refilling with coolant.
Cheers

Calling 186A 119365

I know it is very unlikely but chasing this engine which is originally in my HR from Newcastle.
Its a long shot and any 186A 1..... from a HR will do.

The photo shows original booklet. Vehicle has only done 54,000m but had a 161 put in it after the motor apparently seized whilst sitting in the deceased persons shed for 20 odd years.

Cheers Guys

Torque

Replacing thermostat housing and water pump to engine gaskets. Was recommended to use Permatex Form-a-gasket on metals and a gasket in between. Is Permatex Form-a-gasket suitable and I don't have a torque wrench, should I borrow one or can I do it by hand?

Cheers guys

Slipping hoses

Anyone had problems with hoses slipping from chrome thermostat housing pipes? Radiator feed pipe is fine however the two smaller manifold feed pipes seem to be really smooth and when tightening the hose clamps they work their way off
Was thinking wet and dry ring of paper against the chrome would work? Any other fixes?

Drum Brake Booster

Morning Guys,

Can anyone comment on whether adding a brake booster to a HR with all drums will improve braking at all?

Wanting to keep the car looking original as possible in the engine bay and not going disks, so I would prefer to source an original GM booster if it will help braking.

Cheers

Water Jacket

Can anyone please tell me if a 161 engines water pump and thermostat housing bolts pierce the water jacket? I replaced the gaskets which I sealed but forgot to seal the bolts and only just thought about it.

Wash and wax

What do people recommend on these older paint jobs? A one step product to wash and wax on a duco covered HR weekly without the need to polish ll the time?

Engine Touch ups

Wanting to touch up some rough parts of a red 161. What are everyones thought on doing so whilst the engine is still in the car? i.e removing all attachments, taping and covering surrounding engine bay, wire brushing flakes etc off and then hitting with a spray can?
cheers

Choke

What are everyone's thoughts on choke with twin carb set up?
Mine are both fixed open with no choke. Seems to start alright as it is getting plenty of fuel so not sure whether to worry about coming nbevting it or not.
Cheers and a Happy New Year
