5 speed celica box?

I bought a HR premier sedan with a nice 186 engine and backed up with a celica 5 speed (cast iron)my problem is the gears are crunchy when the car is driven for about 3/4 kilometres. I have replaced both clutch master/slave cylinders, checked adjustments, still the same when it gets warmed up. Any ideas how to fix?

possible export hr

hello i have a hr special sedan and it has a few odd things that i cant work out,its pretty much all original, but it has a ball joint front end with drum brakes, it has never had a heater fitted, not even the leavers in the cab, it has a factory white roof, but its the same colour as the rest of the car under the white, it has the premier chrome strip under the back window and the windscreen squirter motor sits on top of the wiper motor, it had some sort of decal on the tappet cover and ive never heard a red motor that sounds anything like it, it has a spacer plate between carb and manifol

Pinion angles

Morning everyone,

What's the easiest way to ensure these are correct. I overhauled the springs and bushes in the HR and had the diff loosened off and had to guess what angle it went back on. Stock standard HR 3 speed manual with original diff and tail shaft with 2" lowering blocks.

Thanks in advance!!

Cheers

Carb balance Tool

Anyone used one of these?

http://www.ebay.com....

Thought it would be good with twin carbs setting idle revs and mixture.

HR Radio

Hi T - Here is the HR Special Air Chief Radio photo.

Doesn't look as good as the 1966 sales brochure.

The tranny is however not connected to the 2 Farad
voltage capacitor, amp and sub behind the premier arm
rest (stereos in the glove box!).

HR Air Chief Radio

Hi T

For the Radio Page you should put in the HR Air chief
Radio image from page 15 of the 1966 HR Sales brochure
which I posted a few weeks ago.

Did you want me to take a photo of my HR Special air
chief - which looks identical to the advert image with
the HR special silver dash?

Creaking Leafs

After chasing a creak all over the rear of my HR and replacing / inspecting every suggested/possible component I think I have narrowed the creak down to the lowering block/springs/diff housing area. The U bolts are tight, the rubber between top of block and diff, and the rubber between sprung and lower housing appear good, the spring wear spacers all seem good. It is only at slow speeds and taking off and then it goes away. I ca get the noise when i sharp bounce rear of vehicle.
Any suggestions? Grease lowering block, clean between springs?

WANTED: HR Steering box & column

G'day all,
It's been quite some time since I've been on here, the HR has barely changed though.

Does anyone have a HR steering box and column?
SE QLD (I'm in Beenleigh)

Preferably complete and assembled - doesn't need to look pretty.
Needs to have no cracks in the outer steering column housing.
Mine's split pretty bad across the gear change hole near the steering box.

Cheers
Dec

186K V/S 186S

Can anyone tell me if my assumption that the HR performance 186 remained stamped 186K right to the end of production of the HR, or as some has suggested a engine stamped 186S was introduced just before the end of production?
A couple of people have claimed that the HR had a 186S fitted right at the end of HR production, while I know the cam, crank and everything else was the same ( slight change to the head exhaust port )

HR Holden

Hello,
I have a 66hr ute and it had a power guide trans with column shift. I am changing the trans to a trimatic no problem. I am also moving the shift selector from the steering column to a floor mounted shift select. The floor mount I am using is from a late holden statesman. I have made an raised adapter and a special center console to hid all the workings.
My question is has anyone attempted this before and if so please share your frustration's with me.
David

HR Sedan - 13 x 7 rims

Hi everyone,
Just joined the group and will probably pester you all from time to time for some advice / tips . So thanks in advance .
I just got myself a HR sedan late last year and would love to keep the original look going . I used to run widened rims on a HR ute I had years ago . Pretty sure I had 6's on the front with 205/60's and 7's on the back with 225 / 60's . I would like to do the same with the sedan except run the same width all round so I can rotate tyres .

HR Brake Boosters

The only number I can find on an old PBR brake booster I have is a patent number 260550.

Does anyone know how to tell if it is out of a HR as I want to keep it all HR?

A HR Brake Booster (PBR) has a Holden replacement part number of 7433728

But is that stamped on the early HR factory boosters although likely PBR made.

HR Sales Brochure

Happy Australia Day from Perth.

For all HR lovers - I found the ultimate HR buyers guide.

The Holden facts must be from 1966 as there is no 186S option.

I loved green special centrefold as it is exactly like my pops.

The X2 - not premier option cream HR standard is so clean
with only X2 on the front quarter panel.

I've never seen a list of the HR interior colours before.

Happy 50th anniversary to all HR's (hit 51 in April!!)

Coolant system

If working on cooling system and needing to wait on parts for two weeks are you better off to drain it or leave it full of water? I had it full of water so I can inspect it all once work is completed and don't have to worry about coolant going all through engine bay if there is any leaks. Will it rust much in two weeks?
Will run a coolant flush before refilling with coolant.
Cheers
