Can someone who's not in a car club take a car to the Canberra Wheels car show on Sunday 21 Mar 10 and actually have it on display with all the other HQ-HZ's? I feel like taking the Kingswood for a drive but I don't want to just park in the car park, it hasn't been out in a while and could do with having a run.

IM THINKING OF SELLING MY 1965 HD WINDOWLES PV JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED.
EX POLICE HAS(REAR SWAY BAR) STILL HAS MOUNTING HOLES FOR LIGHTS,I BEAR METALED IT, IS IN UNDERCOAT NEEDS RH REAR DOG LEG (RUST) 98% COMPLEATE (NEEDS A CRASH PAD).
IS DUMMY ASSEMBLED @ THE MOMENT

i have my tri matic in a trans shop, while its there i am either going to change to a half bellhousing or get a convertor with nuts attached, previously i had a full bellhousing with a hole cut in the bottom to do the nuts up, then you have to rotate the fly wheel again to torque the bolts before, i have no access to the front crank bolt without pulling out all the fans, radiator & crap.

options are go to a half bellhousing, get a convertor with attached nuts and use standard high tensile bolts.
or
get a half bellhousing and keep the ARP torque convertor bolts and nuts.

its a supercharged six.
i guess what i need to know is do half housings brake easy or do torque convertor bolts shear off easy when you have extra torque and power.

gday all im looking at getting another car to use as a daily so i can pull the prem off the road for a tidy up. will consider almost anything but must be in vic (central vic preffered) must have rego and must be in reasonable condition. wanting to pay up to 2 grand for a suitable car, would prefer a ute and manual but anything pre wb would be great. let me know what youve got as im looking for a quick purchase.

I built my 186 roughly a year ago,at the time i was mates with a mechanic whom i trusted but since showed me i shouldnt have.it was all done with cash and am yet to even get receipts out of him.When asked him if the head was converted to unleaded he said yep sure is.
it is a black 202 head stage 4.how can i tell if it is unleaded without taking the head off.
I've had to 3 times already had so many probs.dont really want to again.

no matter how lean,size of jets,power valve etc i tune the carby to,it always seems to blow black exhaust if i boot it. i talked to the head guy when he was doing it and said it will no worries flow the 465 i was planning to put on then.

the engine hauls ass,drives fine with the carb.but always blows black when giving it to it..

i had put up a question in regards to fitting hq wheels onto my hd, after a bit of looking i found what i need to change eg axle stubs,calipers rotors ect...just wondering has anyone done this conversion and if so did they have any problems? any help would be grately appreciated

I have read a lot of benefit on upgrading HQ brake on HR front end, but I have never come across any problem such as turning circle.

What about turning circle??? Will you get the same turning as original HR Front End since HQ calipers are much bigger than HR???

another quick question, i have a toyota 4 speed in my utebehind the 186, it had a crs bellhousing with the slave mounted on the drivers side of the bellhousing, does anyone know what flywheel/inspection cover will fit it? does it have to be one from crs/dellow or does an oem, say aussie 4 speed cover fit?

G'day guys, few questions on id plates on my hd ute. took it for a roadworthy to change states for the rego, the guy knocked it back for a couple of minor things, one of which was the id plates being painted over, he said he wanted to be able to tell what year model it is.

i cleaned the paint off the main tag on the master cylinder side of the firewall and double checked on my hd sedan, but nowhere on the tags or body number does it mention the year model of the car?? does one of the codes give an indication to the year?

also i have noticed on the opposite side of the firewall the utes (possibly the vans too)

have a hd prem i have just bought, am having problems finding wheels, want old school looking rims eg dragway ect.....but dont want 16" platic looking wheels!!! it has been upgraded to hr disc front end, mate has a set of 14" x 8" centerlines off a hq but obviously stud pattern is an issue, what would it take to make them fit? and is it worth the hassel? any advice would be appreciated

hey guys,what is the best way to clear out the metal fuel lines without using compressed air?

In my HD its been idling like crap lately.will drive fine when stick the boot in but slightly surges at very light load..idle's normally for a bit but then took it for a drive and its idling at 2000rpm,pulled over,turned it 2 full turns out to get it back to 800rpm.

drove on a bit more then it wouldnt idle just die.had to turn it 2 turns in to idle at 1000rpm.but the slightest touch on the idle screw would stuff it up and would die again.
Ive noticed the filter before the mechanical fuel pump is only quarter full and nowhere near enough in it.it will fill back up after i turn the engine off though.

How can i stop body roll in an EH i have just had the diff shortened so the tyres fit up in the guard, So when i'm traveling in a straight line there is no scrubing.
The body touches the outside of the tyres when i travel around a sweeping bend.

Gday, I just aquired into my posession a 179HP motor, Ive been doing some research into them and found the x2 on HD holdens I was wondering if mine was one, It has the same maifold with twin stroms, No headers But i think the motors been played around with, And a 161 head. But owner before Doesnt know anything about its prior history, Can i tell By the engine number? Starts with a M1.

I have been looking at replacement engines and replacement blocks and I have concluded the following, subject to change;

perhaps complete engine may have been removed from the assembly line, the 1948 to HR Master parts book refers to complete 149 HD engines being available from current production.
If you wanted any other size it looks like you could only buy a short motor or a block with pistons.

The 186 was first available in the HR in three forms 186A Pefix and two versions of the the 186K then apparently from some sources a handful of the 186S prefix engines for the last of them, though the books do not indicate this.

Can anyone tell me if there has ever been a list of Holden Interchangable parts made?

The Master parts book for models up to HR was a good start but I havn't seen a modern version?

A couple I can think of right now are;

6cyl red / blue fuel line to vac advance pipe clips same as VB - VL etc body line clips.

EGR 6cyl and 8cyl the same.

Some Torana body clips same as HK, T, G,

Most engine componets except for 73 Torana starters, alternators, engine mounts and brackets.

Starefire 4 and 6cyl rods.

Torana and Holden Door handles.

Torana and Holden bonnet release brackets.

Holden engine bay clips interchange

Torana, HR, HK HT HG mudflaps.

Torana & HR disc callipers.

LH Torana and LJ speakers,

Torana rear speaker and Statesman.

G'day looking at doing a v8 swap into my hd sedan later this year. rather than fork out 1500bucks for a chopped crs front end and rack and pinion setup, i was looking at alternative options. spoke with a guy a while back who suggested a torana front end, im guessing uc would be the most suitable? any other ideas?

My HD ute has 202 efi VK which clearly needs to upgrade many things and get engineering certificate for registration.

So far I have upgraded the brake from HR to HQ, got new set of HT jelly bean rims with tyres, repaired the rust and reinforced the floor pans for bucket seats. This car has cost me too much.

I now realise that I am broke, cannot afford to get engineering report and upgrade other things.

Therefore, I am looking for other options;

Do I need to get engineering certificate if I replace 202 with 186 or 179 with efi?

Or I just have to go back to 161.

Any other ideas???

can anyone tell me what the marking inside the crankcase are for?
I think they are there to identify a block by the year for times when a engine number might have rusted away etc.

In 1964 they did not have markings, the earliest one I have is a 1966 block with two verticle lines scribed into the casting core this produces a raised marking.

I also have a block from 1983 whick has no marking so they may have droped it this by this stage.

Between 1966 and 1980 all the blocks I have are marked the only anominally is in 1973 where I have two blocks cast two hours apart with different markings, the only explanation that I can think of is that they reused a 1971 casting core as the 2 short horizontal lines match, the rest of 1973 seem to have all had the X marking.

I am looking for a 202 engine block to replace one that is well and truely past it's use by date, I would like to match the batch date as on the picture below, ( 5 M 3 ) to keep things more original.
I am not bothered about the engine number though.

A 16 G 3 would be useful also.
