ej brakes

I need to know for QLD rules and regs is it allowable to run the standard 13" rims on the lh torana stubaxles. Also i have heard of a story being that the steering inclination is wrongly set up for the geometry of the front with the lh/lx stub axles. Is all this True?

HR and LH into Ej

Just wonderng if it is true to have to move the 2 engine mounts on the hr front end when putting it in an ej with a 202 on top? If so where? I heard that its like 10mm forwards?

Also wondering if a 9" diff for a torana will sit as easily underneath as the front stub axles?

Any help will be praised and hailed.

hr brakes in ej

I need to know if the HR brake booster goes sraight in on the firewall of an EJ. I have an EJ with a 202 but it still has drum brakes. I do however have a set of beaut Hz front stub axles and rear diff with drums. Should I

a)keep rear drums from the ej and put on the hz stub axles with rotors on front. But what about the pressure difference?

b)Maybe fit both HZ rotors and rear diff and perhaps HZ booster and valve. Will they fit?

c)keep to the HR rotors and stub axles and fit up the rear drums or wheel cylinders or put a dfferent pressure valve in?

Any info on these questions wi

WHAT THE!

Good evening fellas! I currently have an EJ manual sedan (previously posted a pic of her on here). Tonight when I got home as per usual I parked her sweetly away into my garage where she got ready for bed, but as I put her into neutral and pulled the hand brake and released the clutch (don't know what came first it all happened so fast) i heard a "bing" and this massive spring came flying at me feet! Dont know where it came from or what it does, Ive already had a look, couldnt find anything? and all the pedals and everything works as normal? Can anyone offer suggestions etc? The spring is about 5cm long / 1cm wide and has 2 hooks at either end! Can anyone help!? :)

number crunching wheel offsets AGAIN!!!!!!

I am reposting this AGAIN!!!

It is quite important to get the terminology correct when ordering or inspecting new wheels (or second hand)...Offset and Backspace are different terminologys that describe the same thing....Offset is the distance between the rims centreline and mounting face...if the mounting face is exactly in the middle, The wheel has zero Offset....If the mounting face is closer to the bacck off the rim/mag, The wheel is said to have negative offset....Naturally if the mounting face is further towards the front, then the wheel has a positive offset...Older cars (LIKE OLD HOLDENS) use negativley offset wheels (DEEP DISH)....While newer cars (LIKE COMMODORES) use a positivley offset wheel...Backspace is simply the measurement from the wheels/mag mounting face to the back off the rim/wheel.....PCD- pitch circle diameter is the imaginary circle that passes thru the centre of the wheels mounting holes....Falcon has a 5 on 114.3mm PCD while commodore has a larger 5 on 120mm...PCD is independent of the number of studs, you could have 4,5 or 6 stud wheels on the same PCD....Finally the last one is the wheel spigot or centre bore (THE HOLE IN THE BACK OF THE WHEEL)...The wheels spigot must fit the hub perfectly as it carries the cars weight-NOT THE WHEEL STUDS AS MANY PEOPLE BELIEVE!!!!! This is why older-style mag wheels that use shank lug nuts are illegal (even tho you can buy them)SO IF YOU ARE WONDERING IF YOUR MATES WHEELS OF HIS COMMODORE WILL FIT ON YOUR H SERIES HOLDEN....THE ANSWER IS NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!

Speedo Driven Gear

G'day,
Just wondering if any one can help me establish which driven gear ( the plastic gear cog thing at the gear box end of the speedo cable ) suits which diff ratio.I pulled a dark green one out of a hq with a m21 and a 3.36 diff, and am assuming it's only the diff ratio's that determine which colour driven gear is required. If anyone knows all the colours of driven gear there are and what they suit I would be very greatfull.
Any info at all appreciated.
Regards CQ Holden.

my original ej

just like to show you all my ej. Picked it up about a month ago off some full nice guy for 5 grand. All completely original and in pretty much mint condition. Came with all original books, and papers when it was first sold, original tools, new tyres and only 70,000 original miles on the clock. What do you all think? Cheers.

HOW TO: Diagnose and fix that rough idle

Ok, some thoughts and tips on the painful and elusive yet generally simple to fix problem of a rough as guts idle which makes your baby seem like the rusted out old crapbox that we all know it is not. I am attempting to explain the circumstances at engine idle, the systems used to make it work and some simple yet effective methods of getting yourself out of trouble. Please anyone feel free to correct me on any misinformation I may accidentally put down here.

Engines as many of us will know can be set up (mostly through valve timing) to be more efficient at different ranges of RPM's, the most ideal situation would be a motor moving at extremely low RPM with none of the adverse effects of high speed operation (but none of the benefits either) in which case the valve timing can be set to optimize low speed operation. This is however not the case for domestic vehicles and in order to get any power with some degree of economy we need to optimize a certain higher RPM range, this is generally NOT the idle speeds. To counter the problems of idle, being that low air velocity makes the fuel and air not mix properly, engine manufacturers generally (and still to this day) make the idle mixture rich. The other problem needed to counter is that the spark is generally weaker at idle RPM and the fuel more difficult to ignite due to its poor mixing. There are many systems on both new and old cars used to counter these effects, vacuum and centrifugal advance in the distributer and idle circuits in the carbie.

cam selection

i am currently building a fresh 202 blue for the EJ as the one in the cars getting a bit tired, and i was wondering what sort of camshafts people have used, the specs are
0.30" oversized blue printed block
acl flat top pistons
ground and balanced crank
stock head (until i've got the money for a yella terra stage3)
350 holley
pacemaker extractors into 2.5" system
stock electronic ignition

i would like to know what cams others have been running in similar spec motors, I don't what to go to lumpy such as an xu1 grind because of fuel starvation on a single carb engine
maybe something similar to a 186s grind

HOW ABOUT A 1MONTH TRIAL?

I just had an idea rusty....how about letting people join oldholden.com for a months free trial then at the end of the month they have a choice to pay the ten bucks or be removed as members? i know it may seem a bit harsh and i have no idea how you would monitor such a thing (or if it would even work) but it would soon seperate the good eggs from the bad so to speak.....just a thought....
