Silly Question - Turbo Starfire
By Siegetower 03/01/12@02:50 Shed LetsCruise 2000Yes it's the middle of the night when I ask this. A lot of people ask about adding turbos to inline 6 and V8 engines...I just had a thought. Has anyone heard of someone or even been in a workshop where a customer/friend etc wanted to add a turbo to a Starfire engine.
Because I'm keen to know, apart from the cost...how did it go???
Why Holdens have to be tough
By Circlotron 08/12/11@22:37Different people have different expectations of their shiny new Holden. I wonder if the designers of the VE Commodore had this in mind when they sweated over their drawing boards?
Idiots
By MrHQGtS 13/11/11@17:23 2480Well, I feel I must post this rant because I just cannot bare to hold it in any longer.
Several years ago, i bought a house for wifey and myself.
All is well.....
A Year or so later we have very very gifted individuals move into the property next door. (I know the land lord reasonably well) Now, The new neighbours idea of a real good time is cranking up the ol' Stedge on Mundy/Tuesdy/Wednsdy and boom boom boom so the windows of our house vibrate beyond belief, The end result was me nearly jumping the said 6' fence and belting the be-jesus out of the halfwit and there has been really no end to the amount of problems we have had with this idiot and his idiot girl friend (they still think we are gonna be mates after i told her to Farkoff)
RUSH JOB

Dont ya hate it when your forced to rush something? I was today. Not a big deal I guess. I just sprayed septone on my half primed half not primed hj van chassis. I believe that stuff can go straight onto bare metal? well i'll find out. ANYWAY I had half prepped my chassis, had half primed it as I didnt want the bare steel going rusty on the work I had done. Yesterday BIG SPANNERS were thrown into the two days I had allocated to finishing prepping, priming and then painting the rest of the frame. Rain is forcast from tomorrow till next week, then im flying away for a month and I didnt want to leave poor old bare metal chassis out in the rain. My two days were reduced to this afternoon post 3pm haha. 3 hours of daylight.
Holden hj panelvan chassis on the rotisserie

Another pic of a Holden on a spinner from Me. I got sick of the complicated process of turning over the chassis everytime I wanted to work on the other side using the engine crane, chains and brute strength! So last night I downed eight stubbies and made brackets for the chassis to go on my stands I had already made for the panelvan body. Its really easy to spin and I got the balance just right. Curly.

Here's a pic of the ignition but it isn't hooked up mate.
Only bought the car yesterday so i know nuthin about it.
I do have a 202 HG ute with aftermarket Bosch Electronic Ignition and also my 308 motor has it too so a picture of either of those suit ?
This motor and auto are likely to be ripped out in favor of a 202 and aussie 4 speed but if the starfire does stay put, what is the options for upgrading the ignition ? Were there any factory HEI equippped starfire donks made ?
Starfire UC
By T 30/05/11@22:02 Shed Financial HelperThis Member independently contributes financially to oldholden.com and helps keep us running !THANKS
Dusty,
That Starfire UC looks to have aftermarket Bosch Electronic Ignition, the type with the Hall Effect Rotor Button.
Would you do a Shot of the Distributor with the Distributor Cap removed and the Rotor Button?
starfire engines/gearboxes and hydr. clutches
By bob_oz 02/05/11@22:54Hi Guys,
Does anyone know about the 5 speed box that was fitted to the 80's corona's with the starfire engines? I've heard rumors it was a derivative of the borg warner box found in the VH's (M75/M76)
What I'm chasing to see if the borgwarner (might be called a 505 5 speed box that's apparently/maybe in the corona with the starfire) has the same bolt pattern between box and bellhousing as the borgwarner M75/6 5 speed used in the commodores.
Glass Cylinder head
By Q-ball 28/04/11@22:00 Shed 3401I am putting an old engine back together at school. Its a Briggs & Strappon with a glass cylinder head.
It has a thick de-comp plate that lowers the compression ratio, provides a hole for the spark plug and gives a nice flat surface for the head to seal on.
Now...heres the pain in the bum bit...the company (in QLD) that made it doesn't seem to exist anymore, nor do the didtributors in Melbourne. I need to find out OR work out what the head gasket material should be and what type of glass to use...any thoughts.
I have done quite a bit of "Googling" with dead-ends all the way. It was called the "Visi trainer engine" and was made by(modified) HEXCO.
What the....
