1. HDT rally-cross car (LC Torana) had a part fitted in the boot that normaly rode in the front of the car. It wasnt the battery, what was it?

2. If you find an FX ute with a "rain gutter" over the front windscreen is it rare and who may the original owner of the ute been?

3. Could you purchace, from new, a HQ (of any modle) with an engine bigger that a 308 V8?

4. The Repco Around Australia Rally Commodores were (then) new VB's. Did they use V8 or Red 6 engines?

5. Where would you find a "Bunch of Bananas" inlet manifold?

6. You climb into your new EH Holden (fitted with many NASCO accessories) and start the engine, on the lower RHS of the dash is a small, flashing red light. What is this light warning of?

g,day i have a uc sunbird that has been in the shed for 10 years,only 130,000 klms and i want to put a blue motor in it , what do i need to change , and any tips or help would be appreciated , thanks , bundy

Complete 4 door 4 cyl sedan (Sunbird Deluxe) except 2x wheels (I have 2x EH rims with tyres to get it onto your trailer. It does have rust (guards, bootlid, bonnet are good), doors are repairable, motor runs, gearbox works as do all lights etc. It has the Rubber Overiders on the front Bumper only and SLR Hubcaps.

Will not separate. $250 (I Need the ROOM)

I sometimes get told I "live in the past"...although this is note quite true, I did enjoy "growing up"..(some say I haven't started yet!!).I have spent a bit of time surfing the net & going "oh I rember that"..mostly due to the stuff I find about the 80's.
Many of us will reconise things like Group C Commodores or Rubics Cubes...or even the good old Mullet.

Ok...so here's a question...."What 3 things can you name from an era (& I choose the 80's) thats not quite as well known, or maybe e/one has forgoten?.

80's = Max Headroom, a Rubics Snake & puffy rain coats like Marty McFly wore.

As some of you may know I hung up the spanners late last year & took up teaching..all is going well.
I have a small number of engines in my class room (shed!!) for students to work on & over 1st term I was able to get most of them running....at once!!...seems it was commom practice to swap bits from one engine to another to get each one running....1 fuel tank b/ween 3 engines!! or the VK black 6 & 173 Red that had to share a cap & leads!!!!!. This stuff is now sorted.

The latest one to fire up today was the VN V6, this engine is set up with auto & air-con...but some bright spark thought is was a good idea to use the full size VN fuel tank...then wonder why it kept crapping fuel pumps every 2nd week with only 5 litres of fuel in it!.

What gearbox was used in the 4 cylinder, 4 speed manual, Holden powered Toyota Corona?

Can anyone tell me how to identify the star fire rods over the standard version.

I had panel van before this one 73 model the year headrests came out ihad this one a couplr years now.minis and old holdens both have cast iron heads and blocks.i love em you can go round corner in 4th and not drop revs and they hang on like there on rails.so much fun i owned em for 15 years ive been driving.fuel economy brilliant even when tweaked top speed 150 can keep up with 202 even beats it off the mark.i could go on and on.i normally use site ausmini.com.

What is it about the Group C cars??..they just look so tuff.
Even the turbo Bluebird look pretty cool with its flares an' wings.
Makes you wonder what a Group C VL might have looked like in Mobil colors..or perhaps a flared & winged UC hatch.

whats happening does anyone know.now heath ledger wont be playing the part of maxs son.did max and tina turner have ason.will the gyro captain be in it.will it have cars in it unlike 3 beyond thunderdome which saw a few but no detail surrounding them.what other ideas do they have or you if any for next film?

I currently have a UC Sunbird with Starfire 4 cyl mated to a Trimatic and 3.9 Salisbury Diff all in great order but thirsty and slow. Any ideas as to what is needed to convert to a 6 cyl manual and best engine / gearbox diff combination. I am not looking to create a street racer just an economical hack.

Hi, I'm interested in putting a Hi-Torque Gear Reduction Starter Motor on my Starfire motor.

As far as I know it's the same bolt pattern / fit, but needs to be shorter then a normal 6cyl original Holden starter or the exhaust manifold hits.

Anyone care to give me a quick education on these?

Also can you part them out from one model to the other, like are the main units the same and they all just bolt to different mounting plates at the front etc? I ask this so I know what to keep an eye out for with second hand units as well for spare parts etc.

hi guys just curious what the going rate for vn/vp injected v8's with loom and ecu are going for atm,also chasing t700 for as well..Does anyone know if any wreckers sell them as combo's say suited for early holden conversions? I have a hq monaro 4 door which is all original bar the dual fuel.The 253 is getting on and was thinking of doing a retro-tech convo..Is it better to do away with the clunky and rather lifeless traumatic? Surely 4 gears has to be better than 3..Im a diesel mechanic so all the fitting and electrics will done myself.The conversion looks relatively straight forward.

hi im a big Toyota fan but i have a corona with a starfire motor in it and i am after sum twin Webber's and sum extractors but i would also like sum info from nebody who has put a 202 in a Toyota corona and yes it has been done but not very common so if somebody could help me out would be rather appreciated

Had a few problems. got kicked off did 10.62 @ 131mph or 210kph. had a lot of wheel spin and a hand full to control. need to put in a cage and a chute. Will get 9's .

Looking for a cheap starfire engine in Melbourne

Any one out of a VC or VH commodore, UC Torana or even the one out of the Toyota need soon as possible

let me know what you have, I don't need it for the con rods, but if you do thats fine as I have some I can pinch out of a 202 to rebuild it but as complete as possible would be good

This is the freebie corona i need the alt. bracket for, Genuine 2 owner with log book and original purchase receipt in glove box. Now the HR can get some well earned maintenance and rest after almost 4 years of everyday driving.

Hi, I have just been given a 1983 Toyota Corona and I'm chasing an alternator bracket to suit it, as you can see from the picture the old one has seen better days. Its got a Holden starfire in it so hopefully the commodore and sunbird ones are the same. If anyone has one they could spare please let me know, Brisbane area would be best but if i cant find one locally i will pay for postage.

I have been fortunate enough to stumble upon a 1978 Sunbird. The engine is still impressive (minus a brittle lower radiator hose) but it requires replacement parts for the passenger side (headlight, parker light, mudguard and rear lights) as well as a bumper and grill.

I am having great difficulty in tracking said parts down. Is there anyone around (in adelaide or surrounds) who knows where i can find a winner?

Holy hand holds batman! Well the wife said she had some shaking/vibration in her car and slack as i am i didn't get round to looking at it..................
she was driving home thought she had popped a tyre but no look what happened. the driveshaft was hanging on by ONE bolt and spat the dummy and cut through the floor, i can put my finger through and touch carpet ummmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!! how much will this cost me??????????????

Need some advice on procomp pc-91 coils. Thinkin about gettin one but unsure of quality. also procomp leads. I have a hz with a red 308 on straight gas, electronic ignition. Goes o.k but has a weak spark. Any advice is appreciated. Cheers.

I have recently purchased a UC Sunbird 1979 Auto model with Starfire engine, and want to convert it to a manual transmission (4 speed). What is the easiest way to go. What new components do I need Diff / Tailshaft bell housing etc. Which gearbox would be the better option. Any feedback appreciated.

i have a complete running vl which i am planning on putting the rb30 into my vc which is a 4 cyl and it just doesn't have the power or extra gear that i need, what i am wondering is if there will be any problems that i could run into or whether there would be any upgrades that i would have to do, my dad is going to help with this conversion but he is not too sure about the computer, also will i need to change everything like the dash, diff etc, i'm not a very mechanically minded chicky so all the help i can get will be ab fab thanks
