73 lj 202

Hi All,

Looking at rebuilding an engine for my lj currently has the original 173 with small leaks everywhere.

What 202's fit i read there are short and long versions? Red, blue?

Also are all the bolt ons e.g. starter, radiator, alternator suitable?

From my reading any red will fit but will need to ise original sump. Just want to confirm. Cheers All.

So far its been 5 years doing a bit here and there, all the mechanicals done new rubbers carpet, infact everything I could buy new or new old stock I have replaced. but now can see light at the end of the driveway, hoping it will be finished and on the road in April 2017. enjoyed every second of the refurbishment.

UC

I reckon out of all the Toranas the UC is the better one, suspention, differential drives fantastic, the forgotten gem. So many LH and LX Toranas around they are looking so boring, what do you think.

HQ Lifter Rattle Repair

Lifter Rattle Repair:

Worked with a friend over the weekend to fix the lifter rattle in the non-adjustable valve gear in this engine.

1. Removed the Rocker Cover, started the Engine and used a length of plastic hose to listen at each valve stem for the noise.

2. Found the No 2 Inlet Valve had the problem.

3. Confirmed by levering out the lash with a screwdriver between the valve spring and the Rocker Arm. The rattle stopped with each levering and returned when the screwdriver was removed.

4. Shut down the engine and rotated the crank until the troubled valve was wide open. The valve spring held the lifter plunger compressed as we removed the retainer clip from the
lifter.

5. Removed the No 2 spark plug to make crank rotation easier.

UC carbie dripping fuel .

I fitted a reco kit to my carbie and it worked a treat, flat spot gone and idels and drives great, but today for some reason it has a small drip of fuel under the float area. I pulled it down and couldn't see a problem? I just carnt remember from past repairs what may be causing the problem. Any ideas thanks, regards Dave.

Suspention UC

Spitting chips, I replaced every part possible on my front end except the springs anyhow I sat the car down and it was 2 inches lower, so undo everything and the springs had been cut very neatly I didn't notice when installing them, moral of storey, don't use that old set you had in the shed, just buy new ones. All sorted.

Cheers Dave.

T and Matt with a HQ

G'day everyone,

Here are a few photos from T and I replacing there generic front end components on my HQ.

Key learning points were:

- The best way to negate a hangover is by not dancing whilst drinking
- Brake pads coming off drum brake shoes is best discovered in the car port
- Some neighbours are interested in old cars, most are not
- A 32 year old is better suited to physical labour when pressing bushes out by hand

Torana UC 173 temp sender

I purchased a new temp sender for the UC and when it warms up to running temp the dash gadge goes almost off the scale, it was replaced because I recoded the engine ad wanted everything new, could I have the wrong sensor value and if I do what would be the correct part number.

The engingine runs a treat it's definitely not over heating

Regards Dave.

Quick question, I bought some KYB front shocks for my HQ 6cyl and they seem about 2mm to big to fit in the lower control arm

Has anyone come across this?

Old style fan venetians

Finally got the LC finished to a stage that I'm happy with. The finishing touch was finding a pair of old style venetian fan shades which cleaned up really well. The irony is that I found them amongst my late fathers possessions, and remember telling him 20+ years ago to bin them because they looked old fashioned...I'm glad he ignored me and kept them.
