One for the motor builders.
By BobHJWagon 31/01/12@18:06I have just cc'd my cylinder heads and they aren't the size advertised (58cc instead of 64cc). My static compression is now 11.3:1 and dynamic is 8.6:1. Will 98 octane be good enough? Can anyone give me some input or should I just get chambers taken out to 64cc.
Note: I have imported these heads from the states and it'd be a sh@t fight to return them.
Another note: I have contacted seller and waiting for a reply.

Factory 350 in the HJ series....
By SLOW 23/01/12@20:00 6024Hey peoples.... I know this question has probably a hundred times but i'm just gonna ask again.. I've been googling the [Naughty Pottyword] out of this question in every kind of format and its not giving me a direct answer, so would anyone here know if the HJ came out with a factory 350?? I remember reading years ago that early models were given this option to get rid of old stock left over from the Q's. The reason for asking is im looking at dropping a 350 in my sandman ute and want to get it registered with the 350 here in Western Australia, but if it wasn't a factory option it could be a pain in da butt getting it registered, but not impossible....
Thoughts????
Engine in, not much left now.....Yeah right!
By keijames 23/01/12@19:59Engine, transmission in. Ceramic coated extractors picked up today and installed. All without scratching the paint. Chassis rails POR15, firewall 2 pac. Black is a chit of a colour to photograph.
Not much left to do............LOL.

Hose fun

Having fun on the Mackay Rubber webpage
Just wanna find out why upper coolant hose seems too short for the 350 wagon. They have supplied part # CH881 OEM part 2809898
But this webpage & the other one I found are hopeless.
I have a fine spline 3 core radiator that is the stock thickness, I reakon the hose may fit the fatter aftermarket type radiator OK but this one looks like it could rip the hose fitting right off the radiator, it is that tight?
common conversion
By a Holden Fan o.O 16/01/12@17:19Hi guys, just wanting some information on what i guess is quite a common conversion. I have a HZ 6cyl with a 3 speed manual and want to drop in a v8. I know 350 chev motors drop straight into HQ's, is it the same with HZs. Either that or just a 308, are they straight forward conversions?? Thanks for any info

9 Inch diff fill point
By MRCV8 12/01/12@20:10 Shed LetsCruise 2283Hey guys, Im having a bit of a head scratching exercise with my 9 inch in my HK Prem. Now where the fill point use to be at the rear of the diff the fill point has been welded up. Now I still have the breather tube at the top of the diff but my question is how do I know when I have enough in it? Is it ok to fill it nilly to the top of the breather pipe? Or should I just guestimate how much to put in there?
Thanks

Strange stampings on chassis HQ
By keijames 08/01/12@01:25Rebuilding my Monaro. Rubbing back the chassis for painting, I came across these stampings. Just up from the engine mounts near the welds for the chassis piece going from the firewall to bumper mounts. Driver's side. Anybody have any idea? Looks like 5J34 or 5J84.
Cheers

Whats your engine, whats your diff, whats your fuel economy?
By Siegetower 04/01/12@01:49 Shed LetsCruise 2000350 Chev, just installed, still using the running in oil. Nearing 450km since installation.
2.6 ratio 10 bolt Statesman diff.
Went for a long drive today to keep running in the engine, I made sure to run the engine under load to settle in the rings. When there weren't Camrys slowing me down (40km/h in 60 zones in a forest, WTF??) I opened the throttle after every corner. It was exciting, to say the least. When the revs are high, especially in 3rd gear (Supra box), it just flies and the car responds so well. Old Holdens are engineered so well for the entire car to handle engine conversions. Got to love them.
Painstakingly calculated tonight that my total journey was about 252km, I used about half a tank of fuel, so online calculated 15litres/100km, or 18 miles per gallon.
