Holden HJ Monaro inner door wire plastic nut/screw

I'm looking for the plastic nut that screws onto the inner rod wire that allows the door to open using the outside door handle. It pushes down on the door lock.
Does any one know what they are called and where i could purchase one from.

See photos attached

Cheers
Paul

Carby Problems, 253.

Hi everyone,

I'm after some advice. A Friend has just acquired a Holden HX 1 Tonner, 253, 4 speed, Great Condition, and drives OK. The car is running very sick, missing ,coughing and splutting. Their mechanic has told them the Stromberg Carby has had it and needs a full rebuild. From what I can remember 350 Holleys run very well on 253's. I'm thinking a brand new 350 Holley. Is this the way to go? Any other ideas? Mechanic says $300-$400 to rebuild the original carby.

cheers
jeff

Hg Tailshaft

Hi All
Chasing some info. I have a 70 HG 253. The tailshaft I removed is 2.75" in width then reduces to 2.5" for about 8.5". The bottom layer of paint was yellow and from the info I have found on the site, I gather this was the original colour.
1. Did the original tailshaft have a step down?
2. It has been a while since I removed it and I think the step down was at the diff end but I'm not sure. Can anyone clarify if this is correct.

Appreciate any help
Cheers
Pete

Indicators not functioning

Hi Old Holden Crew
I have recently been away for 6 weeks on school holiday. I left my battery disconnected, when I reconnected it I accidentally shorted out the spanner on the body for a brief second. I started the car and and it ran fine. I drove it around and found the indicators were not working. I had blown a couple of fuses but not the indicator fuse. All fuses are now replaced and live. Indicators still not functioning. When I turn on the indicators I here an initial click after the stalk has been shifted and then nothing. Any Ideas what the problem might be?

steering box tension bolt wont move

Hi guys, so Ive got a WB with the steering box quite loose, but the tension adjuster on top is seized in. its the type where is like a big grub screw with the allen key/hex head. ___no locking nut___.

should i soak it and have another go? is there a locking nut inside the box or something? all the ppl I ask about this say it would be a bolt with locking nut. make it tight then back it off a little. but there is no nut and i cant move this allen head bolt.

any help much appreciated.

cheers

1/10 Done

Today's progress - 1 fender back to bare metal. How much effort should be put into areas that aren't seen?

1) Who cares, you cant see it anyway.
2) Some effort, you'll know when to stop.
3) Maximum effort, just as you would the outer side.

Putting a 253 into a HJ ute

Hi All!
I'm new to mucking around with cars as such, at least in terms of giving them new life, but have a few questions about a project I'd like to tackle. It may not be everyones cup of tea but it is just an option that I have infront of me....

I have a 253 engine, a complete HJ ute with a lot of rust in the body, and a '35 chev pick up body.
The chev body has a bit of sentimental value for me but is not currently in good shape, but regardless I want to bring it back to life and is the main motivation for the project.

Rear Exhaust Mounts

Silly Question Alert.

These bits can be mounted a few different ways and I don't have an example to look at. If someone could post a pic of the correct setup I would be very appreciative.

Does the "leg" of the bracket sit inside or outside the exhaust pipe? Does the leg hang down or point up? As I said, a pic would be fantastic!

Thanks :-)

HQ 253 intermittent miss

Hi,
Got an odd problem with a HQ 253 manual and a intermittent miss it develops. When I got the engine 12 months ago I changed the points, plugs, plug leads, condenser, coil, rotor button and cap to freshen it up. I also had the carby rebuilt by a carby specialist (standard 2BBL carb) which had choke mechanism replaced along with both choke pipes. I also installed a new fuel filter.

Workshop Manual Help?

Hi There!
My partner just bought a WB V8 one tonner. As it needs a bit of work I was hoping to get him a workshop manual for Christmas. I have seen the Gregory's 6cyc 3.3 litre manuals online and on eBay, is this the right one?
I'm sorry for the very knowledgable question but I want to make sure I get the right thing.
Thanks in advance!

Power Steering Problems

G’day all,

I’m after a little bit of advice... I fitted Power Steer (out of a Prem) to my Wife’s Kingswood, but I used the original manual Steering Box. Am I correct in thinking that Power Steer Models had a different ratio box? I ask because the one fitted has way too much free play, despite having a recon kit put through it, so it may be time for another. On another not, the steering won’t self centre since fitting the Power Steer, despite having a wheel alignment... Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Cheers
