Wiring Diagrams

Hi.
Does any have large scans of the Colour wiring diagrams for a HZ Panelvan (Sedan should be close enough)? The ones inthe gregorys are not much help, I will be doing a complete re-wire so the Body, Dash and Engine diagrams would be a great help.

Where to find 2nd hand intake manifold?

Hello people,

I'm nearing the time where I can start re-assembling the 253 that's in the HQ Panelvan.

I've a new crane cam, lifters, pushrods, reco (gas comp. inserts, inner radius cleaned up, to be match-ported), rollmaster timing chain set), all ready to go in.

Spent 4 hours carefully removing carbon buildup from top of (60 thou oversize I found under the black crap!) pistons, and prepped top of block (got to love removing old, corroded gasket!).

nearly done

hi my name is mitchell i am currently 15 years of age my parents recently bought me a fb holden which has been fully restored to the two tone color white and red leather and all the things that you could think of we paid eleven thousand for the little beast however there is one thing i accidently locked the keys in the boot and was forced to bust it open now i have no boot lock the old one was fully destroyed if anyone could give me any details on where i can get hold of one in the sydney area it would be appreciated. i know a lot of you are busy people but if you do have any details please tell me because i am desperate i want to join a club but my car is unfinished and the other things are so perfect that i really need this part.

engine no.??

Im lookin for the engine no. on my HT coupe(253). I was told it was on the left hand side of the block near oil dipstick but nothins there. Above the water pump it has B180 or 8180 but thats all i can find. Any help would be appreciated.

looking for parts

I,ve just bought my second ute,this one is the HZ and being a country boy I,m looking for various bits and peices to place on it.I,ve been in contact with Blueys ute world but even he hasn,t got the things i,m looking for as yet.There,s one particular thing I,m looking for and that is one of those perspex bonnett mounted insect deflecters, the same as you see on prime movers.Has anyone got any ideas where I can get one or where they are made.

cooling system worries

Hi all

Having a few problems with my cooling system at the moment. Radiator is overflowing every so often, i notice it when i've stopped and i get out. Its not a major overflow, but its happened about 3 times now. A while back i topped it up, it needed a little under a litre of coolant to bring it back to full. After that, i had another overflow, and when it had cooled down i checked the water level, which was now much higher than usual, hence the overflow. I checked it this morning and it's back to being a little low. i have noticed when it's low that there are a few bits of scale here and there. i figure they could be blocking up passages and maybe causing the problem.

Cams & Carbies

I'm look for a little help. I just fitted reco heads, heatseaker stage 2 cam, lifters, and a second hand rochester 4b (68/48 main jets) to my 253. Problem is that the thing wont run right. It will rev out down a hill at less then 1/4 throtle but kick like a bitch if I give it any more. I tried every thing I can think of but nothing seems to change it. Any wild ideas welcome, thanks.

HQ prem front

Hi Michael, sorry this is a bad photo in the way it doesnt show the whole car, but it's the only one i have of the front at the moment, if you give me you email address i'll send you some more at a later time. read the "front end" post for more details of the nose cone.

Hi guys, this is the tunna, i posted this angle of it so you can see the tray, i'm happy with the way it turned out, i spent hours working on this and i'm please to say it was worth the effort. This is the car i'm thinking of putting the 454 in.

Been meanin to post a picture for a while, this is my new HQ, freshly attended to, just a few days before the 4spd shat itself, and a few weeks before a new supra 5 slotter went in. This car turns heads like u wouldn't believe, they'll be prying the steering wheel from my cold dead hands...

Water temp on 253

I'm just wondering if anyone has a temperature gauge that shows the actual temperature, not hot or cold, of the water in a 253? What does yours run at?? I recently got one and am not sure if mine is running too hot or too cold or what not? The temp gauge shows just over 110 degrees.

253 FACTS????

Hi all. Just have a question for ya's. I have just been in a "conversation/disagreement" with my boss and another guy about the ol' 253 4.2L. What i want to know is, is it true that the 253 were renound for their fuel enconomy and that they were one of the best v8 motors ever built in australia. (Thats what the other guy said) and that holden made a tough decision into getting rid of them. They also said that the 253 were better than the 186 and 202 motors. I personally think that thats a load of [Naughty Pottyword] and the reason they did they did get rid of the 253 was the 308 had just as good economy but more power. Can anyone enlighten me on this.

please help...wierd oil problem with my 253

hi,
ok, when i first got my 253 going, it ran and pumped oil well..oil was pumping out push rods and spraying onto the rockers..but then the next time i went to start it, about 2 weeks later, i had no oil pressure. so i took the pump off, it looked pretty good inside, i got a new gasket kit and filter for it, primed it and put it back on..
now i have oil pressure(the oil light on the dash goes out) but the top end is terrible rattley and is getting almost no oil, only a tiny bit of oil dribbles onto the rocker that i can see when i rev the engine right up...

know where to get a holley 465 carb?

hey everyone.
I hope I dont seem lazy in just chucking this question to you guys (but I have shoped around).
would anyone know where I might get a good price on a reconditioned Holley 465 4BBL carby?
I found a guy with one with one for 395+30 postage and 50 for a manual choke kit. This seems pretty good but thought it might save me to see what you all think?

bewildered

G'day again

Now that I've got my nice new transmission in, I'm about to start with fixing up the fuelling and figuring out how the whole dual fuel system works. I've never driven a dual fuel before this, let alone worked on one. The cars setup supposedly favours gas, and this is Ok i guess (petrols still got the extra grunt), but the car is a bitch to start from cold on petrol. it starts great on gas but lots of people (who i ignore) say this is bad in the longrun cos of carbon buildup.The problem with petrol is that, on a good morning, i might start it 3 or 4 times before it decides to run. basically to get it warmed up i have to holdit at fairly high rpm, and If i let it drop and have to nudge the pedal again, it trips over itself, (sounds like its flooding) then stalls. After a good 5 mins, the car is ok, though it has an annoying flat spot at small throttle openings which at low speeds has the car desperately trying to kick forward, eventually crawling out of the dip and exploding forward. This dissapears after a bit of driving.

the beast is back...

She's back and the supra box is in! Thought I'd let everyone know since i got so much interest and so much help (thanks again), but the old M20 that was slippin out of first is long gone and has been replaced with a shiny recoed supra 5spd courtesy of Mal Wood Auto. Thanks go to Streetneat for recommending them, they do some seriously good [Naughty Pottyword]! The kit was expensive (not much change out of 2 grand, plus fitting costs), but worth every cent cos the whole thing bolted in without any machining or drilling whatsoever.

Reco' heads for red 253?

Hi all,

I've been pulling apart the top end of a 253, to replace most of the valve train, and lucky me 3 inlet manifold bolts broke, and refused to come out. Heat, ezy-out, big hammer - they still refused to come out, and I botched one (2 maybe) of them trying to drill em out.

I've got a rollmaster timing set and crane 241 with new lifters to go in, and I have to decide whether to try and heli-coil the manifold bolts, or spend $385 for a set of reco heads with LPG valves. Does this seem a good price? Anyone know of anywhere to get rebuilt or reco heads for cheap?

Auto electrical problem

Some help needed!

I've got a HQ that is almost perfect except one small problem that annoys me. The headlights on both high and low beam waver a little in intensity while driving. In sync with this is a wavering of the lights that illuminate the dash! Ive check the current being drawn from the battery which is okay so the problem is downstream. Any ideas anyone?

I need a v8 1 ton ute....Help!

I am looking to buy a V8 1 Ton ute and so far have not had any sucess. Please help! I am willing to spend up to $5,000 or at worst am willing to swap my baby for it. She is a VK Calais with immac. paint, good Int and goes hard with a worked 5L ( roller rockers etc.) I am looking for $5,000 even for her and she's a bargain.
