Torana 308 block

I would like some opinions regarding a Torana 308 block I'm thinking of selling.
It has is a legit genuine HT prefix engine number [not someone's re-stamp] it's date code is 18 H 7, to me this means its a 18 August 1977 casting, so LX SLR 5000 or SS 5L and the good thing is it's a standard bore. Both heads have a cast number of 2812174, they appear to have larger than standard valves. So what's your thought's please ?
Thanks Mal

Boot Lid Badge

picked up a "Statesman" badge for my WB boot lid (passenger side) from an antique store of all places at a sensible price...the original on mine had been removed when the car was repainted quite a few years ago and the holes filled..the badge has 2 pins...I am presuming there would have just been 2 holes drilled in the lid slightly smaller and the pins were a taper fit - or was there some kind of plastic insert in the holes?

Vn304 into Hq

Hey jim here . I'm putting already built 304 vn into my Hq one tonner. I currently run a 253 trimatic pattern with a 350 Holley and a celica 5 speed . The vn 304 turbo pattern has been totally rebuilt with balancing porting flat tops Roller rockers head work and ground. I'm putting a carbie on top.. I'd like to put a 650 hp .. it's a daily drive and I would like it not to stop at every fuel station .. is their much difference between a double pumper and a vac sec 650 in fuel economy.. do I need thermo fans ?? How efficient is getting new pace makers coated for heat transfer..

Fuel Octane Rating for Stock Blue 308?

I've got a stock blue 308 in a WB - 9.2:1 compression ratio iaw published literature - I've been using PULP 98 Octane in it - expensive...do I need to do this ? - I just put around - it's not a performance car...I've had difficulty finding a reliable source of info re what to use - will 91 or 95 Octane be ok for a 9.2 engine - what about E10? What are others using with acceptable results and can anyone point to a good reference source?

HQ Road Trip

Just made it across the country in the Prem Wagon. Factory 308, Turbo 400, air con, power steer, electrics.....
Wanted to post this as a way of saying thanks to the guys who unknowingly helped me out on this site with a couple of things along the way - points gap and so on.
Was an awesome road trip - 4500kms in 6 days, there is dead set nothing more enjoyable than holding 3300rpm in one of these, widows down, pipes in tune, flying across the Nullabour for hour after glorious hour. Follow the sun, just follow the sun.

Front wheel bearing seal?

I've just replaced front wheel bearings on my WB. There was a slight amount of play in the bearings on one wheel and while the bearings looked okay when I pulled them out (no discolouration or scoring, pitting etc) I thought it'd be cheap insurance to just replace them. Even with the new bearings, it has exactly the same amount of play... if I tighten the castellated nut to the next opening for the split pin, it just seems too tight, as in the torque applied on the nut increases a fair bit. I'm familiar with trailer bearings and the amount of play is acceptable but is it on a WB?

WB Statesman aircon hoses

I have had all sorts of grief getting my WB's aircon in order over the last year. Bought a reco A6 compressor (the original one had the clutch/pulley missing), new receiver dryer, NOS condensor, replaced the vacuum pods...
Yesterday I noticed that the air isn't blowing that cold anymore (just had a regas a few weeks ago when I had to replace the orifice tube).
One of the high-pressure ac hoses is leaking, just pin hole leaks but it needs to be replaced.

WB Caprice Rear Ride Height

was wondering if someone could tell me what the standard rear ride height should be with std 15 inch rims and 225/60 tyres and where you have taken measurement from eg ground to lower edge of chrome trim of wheel arch...Mine is sitting quite high, the service records show it was fitted with some h/d pedder springs - the part number corresponds to std height but the old fella I bought the car off said he had higher springs fitted for towing his van and they look like it to me.

Crow cam shaft 4665

Hi guys n girls. I'm doing some research regarding dialing in a cam. The Crow info is all based on 1.65 rockers and I have 1.6 so I'm not sure if that changes anything. I've sent a question to the Q&A section of Crow but haven't heard back. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks Mal
