Fuel Octane Rating for Stock Blue 308?

I've got a stock blue 308 in a WB - 9.2:1 compression ratio iaw published literature - I've been using PULP 98 Octane in it - expensive...do I need to do this ? - I just put around - it's not a performance car...I've had difficulty finding a reliable source of info re what to use - will 91 or 95 Octane be ok for a 9.2 engine - what about E10? What are others using with acceptable results and can anyone point to a good reference source?

HQ Road Trip

Just made it across the country in the Prem Wagon. Factory 308, Turbo 400, air con, power steer, electrics.....
Wanted to post this as a way of saying thanks to the guys who unknowingly helped me out on this site with a couple of things along the way - points gap and so on.
Was an awesome road trip - 4500kms in 6 days, there is dead set nothing more enjoyable than holding 3300rpm in one of these, widows down, pipes in tune, flying across the Nullabour for hour after glorious hour. Follow the sun, just follow the sun.

Front wheel bearing seal?

I've just replaced front wheel bearings on my WB. There was a slight amount of play in the bearings on one wheel and while the bearings looked okay when I pulled them out (no discolouration or scoring, pitting etc) I thought it'd be cheap insurance to just replace them. Even with the new bearings, it has exactly the same amount of play... if I tighten the castellated nut to the next opening for the split pin, it just seems too tight, as in the torque applied on the nut increases a fair bit. I'm familiar with trailer bearings and the amount of play is acceptable but is it on a WB?

WB Statesman aircon hoses

I have had all sorts of grief getting my WB's aircon in order over the last year. Bought a reco A6 compressor (the original one had the clutch/pulley missing), new receiver dryer, NOS condensor, replaced the vacuum pods...
Yesterday I noticed that the air isn't blowing that cold anymore (just had a regas a few weeks ago when I had to replace the orifice tube).
One of the high-pressure ac hoses is leaking, just pin hole leaks but it needs to be replaced.

WB Caprice Rear Ride Height

was wondering if someone could tell me what the standard rear ride height should be with std 15 inch rims and 225/60 tyres and where you have taken measurement from eg ground to lower edge of chrome trim of wheel arch...Mine is sitting quite high, the service records show it was fitted with some h/d pedder springs - the part number corresponds to std height but the old fella I bought the car off said he had higher springs fitted for towing his van and they look like it to me.

Crow cam shaft 4665

Hi guys n girls. I'm doing some research regarding dialing in a cam. The Crow info is all based on 1.65 rockers and I have 1.6 so I'm not sure if that changes anything. I've sent a question to the Q&A section of Crow but haven't heard back. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks Mal

Thermo fans

Hi guys, am new here. I need some advice on what size thermo fan or fans I need for my eh. It has a Holden v8 383 cube. They will have to go in front of the radiator as there isn't a lot of room on engine side. Thanks

Factory 304 rocker arm ratio

Hi, just trying to find out what would be the best roller rocker arm ratio would be best for a mild 304. I guess I need to start with finding out what the standard rocker ratio is first, so if someone could guide me in the correct direction to find out I can then decide what to go for. having said all that 1.65 seems the most common for aftermarket rockers, any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks Mal

Fraud Vl.

Just Bought a Vl with t350 gearbox - speedometer cable was disconnected and has to be held into place with a zip tie . - now connected The tachometer is out by 30km to fast - do I need to calibrate or make sure the cable which goes to the speedo is the correct one ?

Was going to buy new cable off eBay and buy a new whole tacho cluster as some gauges do not work or lights .

Trans seems to sit too high, HQ coupe

Hi guys, I've bolted a 308 and t350 through salsbury from a HJ 4 door into my HQ coupe, using a new trans crossmember (ordered for coupe, 308, th350) from Rod Shop. I'm not sure if I've done something wrong, but the trans output is sitting very high, which leads to tailshaft contacting the tunnel.....
is there an obvious solution or a common fault I'm possibly making??
