186 X2

Oil leak

G'day,

I'm in need of a bit of help.
I finished installing my rebuilt 186 coupled to an aussie 4 speed (never used the gearbox before).
The engine has been started 3 times since I installed it last weekend, today I drove it for the first time. As I was reversing out of the shed I noticed a pool of oil, so I turned it off and had a look under the car. Initially I thought it might have been the rear crank seal because the pool of oil was around that area.
I couldn't notice any drips coming off the engine so I started the car again and then looked underneath it.
It was like someone had turned a tap on, from the tiny hole in the clutch inspection plate oil was pissing out.

HR front wheels

G'day,

Since I've bolted on the [http://gallery.oldho...|15x8s] on the back of the HR the 13 inch steelies on the front look out of place.
I've got a 14" HT steel rim but it just rubs on the upper control arm, before I attack the control arm with the grinder, who has put 14's on a HR before? do I have the correct wheel?

Cheers, Tom

Wanted Urgently!

G'day, I urgently need a pair of 14" HK-T-G steelies to go on the front of my HR.
Prefered to be in reasonable condition, with or without tyres I'm not fussed.
Are they all the same or is there a differance in offset between the three models?

I'm in SA. Please send me an email or reply on here if you can help.

Cheers, Tom

HR X2 Engines

Not long ago I seen a 186 X2 block for sale on Ebay and it was just a bare block and in very poor nic by the looks, still I think he wanted $1000. Is this bloke a dreamer or not? I have one of these in the shed as well as a 186s from maybe a HT or something both old motors not ran in 15+ years not worth $1000 a pop i say even with all the gear, also I found a complete X2 with original dash and motor etc in ok nic and got the whole car for $1500 so im wondering do I have $2000 worth of old motors and a bargain car or was that guy after ridiculous cash?

HR 4 speed

Could anybody help me out with some photos or advice?

I'm half way through installing an aussie 4 speed in my HR but I'm having a few issues.

I don't really know how high the gearbox should sit in the car? does any one have a photo? and a photo of a powerglide cross member (are they flat along the top)?
I've been comparing where the top of the rocker cover sits in relation to points on the fire wall, to try to get some idea of height.

I was told to use a powerglide cross member from a HR. I've bolted the member to the gear box and jacked it up as far as I can, but to attach the member to the floor it still needs to go up another inch.
It just seems too cramped and looks like I'd need to cut out a heap more of the tunnel just so the linkages will clear.

Stainless steel grade

Now that I have you attention.

I had a stainless steel exhaust system put in about 6-8 months ago.
I thought it was all good.
Over the weekend I put this new engine in the car and had to pull the exhaust out to make room under the car.
The exhaust pipes look have a bit of light surface rust which I thought was a bit weird, so I ran a magnet over it and sure enough it stuck.

My question is, Is this stainless steel? are there different grades of stainless steel? Or should I rip into the bloke who built it.

Cheers, Tom

disks on a banjo

G'day,

I want to change the drum brakes on the rear end of my HR, I've got disks up front but the drums on the back are giving me the [Naughty Pottyword]s.
It still runs the original banjo diff and I don't want to change that.

I doubt its a simple modification but if any one knows of a kit that exists or has any one done this before on the old banjo diff?
Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers, Tom

Lokar cable conversion

My new Lokar throttle pedal and cable has been sitting in the shed for the last two months just waiting to go in.
So the other day I decided it was time, If any one is interested in the conversion have a look in my [http://gallery.oldho...|shed] or fire me an email.
Its the expensive option but I think it looks and functions more nicely than other cable conversions.

Cheers, Tom

12 port intake manifold with or without carby wanted Perth.

Has anyone around perth got a 12 port intake manifold with or without carby laying in a shed doing nothing i could have or use for the next year or so?

The reason is the HG is using way too much fuel with the yella terra head and twin carbs at the moment. Since im at tafe full time and not working i really cant afford the running costs but need to use it get to tafe.

I have a spare 12 port vk commie efi head and efi gear but i cant afford to do the full conversion atm, so a cheaper alternative is to use the head with a carby setup until im working again.

HR Diff centre

Hi all,

I'm after a bit of advise on what to do with my HR's diff.

The diff centre at the moment is a 3.36 and I've got a 186 with twin carbs and the old 3 speed.
At about 80kmh (roughly), in top gear the engine is screaming, I'm not sure of exact revs cos I don't have a tacho but it is certainly uncomfortable
What ratio would be suitable to drop the engine revs a bit at highway speeds.
Or should I look around at getting an aussie 4 speed or is top gear the same ratio in the two gearboxes?

Cheers, Tom

Lokar Cable throttle linkage

For blue eh and others interested.
I recieved my Lokar throttle pedal, cable and brackets today.
The quality of Lokar stuff top notch, no burs, good anodising but you'd expect that with the price tag.
stay tuned for the installation.
There's a few more photos in my shed if you want to have a look.

Cheers, Tom
