HR Progress Report
By Dean Trounson 06/02/12@21:22 Shed VictHey guys, just thought i'd give an update on the HR.
Still hasn't gone to paint and has had a big change of plans.
In late December we took the HR to the workshop where we were going to paint it, we then got her on the hoist and found some things we wanted to change. Heres a quick run down of the list we've created:
-Replace drum front with disk brake front end
-Put a better front sway bar in and 25mm lower front spings
-Overhaul the gearbox
-Replace handbrake cable
-Reset rear leaf springs
-Change the diff ratio from 3.55:1 to 3.36:1
-Replace exhaust system with extractors (maybe) and a 2 1/4 inch system
-Put a 186S carby on
-Replace original wheels with either 13x6 or 14x6 chromies

So I accidently hit a pothole on the way home from work this avo.. Only a little one but when I drove up the driveway I hear a big clunk. I had a quick look underneath and noticed the shock is dangling loosely below the wishbone!!!! I didnt investigate much more cos it was pissing down rain but I'll be havin a good tinker tomorrow. It looks like the 2 bolts that go through the lower mounting pin have either snapped or loosened off. Anyone know the size of these 2 bolts? Or any advice if ya think I've got it wrong?
Rust repairs coming along ok

Hi
Well did some more on rust repair it was a very close fit in regards to not welding it to chassis but i think i got there ok checked with good old dentist mirror and looks good
this section i think was hardest due to multiple curses in that particular section and making this section by hand took some time with average shed tools i think 5 hours in total just in making the piece up but took my time to make sure i got as close as possible
I measured and there has been no movement
I think overall i have been lucky considering the fronts still connected to car i still agree with everyone front should be off for this kind of work but its worked out ok only one section left before i do small bits left out and clean it up etc

HG Gear linkages cured...
By EddyHG 20/01/12@07:32 Shed LetsCruise 4346 Financial HelperThis Member independently contributes financially to oldholden.com and helps keep us running !THANKS
Just read an old post with a comment from "campbell". The common problem of 3 on tree gears popping out of place all the time. I've had problems with this heaps, and often adjust em. Real annoying when you gotta pull up and pop the bonnet to push back out of gear. Campbell mentioned putting a large hose clamp round the bottom of the steering column below where the linkages fit in. It holds up all the slop. I gave it a go a couple of days ago with a truck hose clamp and havent had a single hassle since. Even tried to get a bit rough with it and all gears seem to go in and out sweet. Just thought someone else might like to know about it.. not exactly an "original" part but certainly did the job for me. http://oldholden.com...

Pedal problems
By EddyHG 18/01/12@21:12 Shed LetsCruise 4346 Financial HelperThis Member independently contributes financially to oldholden.com and helps keep us running !THANKS
Hey everyone, havin a couple of problems with my brakes and clutch in the HG. Brakes are working really well all the time but every now and then, after I push the brakes on, the pedal stays in for a while before it eventually springs back out. Tricky sometimes when I'm using them on and off, sometimes I have to sneak my foot under the pedal and pull it back out just to take off without the brakes on.
The other thing is the clutch, same deal it seems to be working fine, no problems changing gears etc but the pedal is pretty much pushing into the floor when you use it. Any way of tightening it up a bit or something. Any advice or links to past posts would be appreciated.
