HZ Panelvan Petrol Tank Dilemas

Recently purchased a HZ 78 model Panelvan. Seem to be having problems with the petrol tank.

When purchasing the car, I was informed by the previous owner that there was no overflow valve hooked up and for this reason the tank would leak petrol if filled above three-quarters of a tank.

On inspection the overflow is hooked up, and that tank does not appear to bear any marks, dents, or holes. I am at loose ends as of what the problem is, although friends inform me it is common.

Any ideas as of what the problem is and how to solve it? I am soon to get a gas conversion anyway, so the problem is not that great however a solution would be appreciated.

Thank-you in advance.

I think the problem you are having is the tube going into the tank got holes and in need to be replaced. An aging car is the problem and parts need replacing from time to time.

I used to have the same problem on same 1978 HZ panel van. At the service station on filling up of petrol, it used to leak at around the 75% mark and to stop.
