Modified is horrified

As my old dad used to say these (number plates, phone cards, etc) are a bigger fool investment, in that you have to find a bigger fool than yourself to onsell to make a profit.

Good luck to the dude, I would would want something a little more tangible for my $$$.

If your project doesn't work, look for the part you didn't think was important.

One should forgive one's enemies, but not before they are hanged

I have a hubcap from a FJ, which was the same type of car that Menzies once looked at (allegedly),and a paintbrush which was the same type as the one used to paint numbers on plates in South Africa in 1941 (allegedly).
How much should I start the bidding at for these little gems? Is a trillion dollars OK?

"If your car has quarter vents, a diff at the back, and was available with wind-down windows, you may talk to me.
Otherwise I am not interested. Amen."

I'll give you a trillion [third generation] Zimbabwe dollars.
That's about 0.0095 cents Australian ;-)
I could have offered to pay in 2nd generation dollars but they are worth 10,000,000,000 times less than 3rd.
First gen ones are worth 1000 times less than second.

I might be a millionaire at his prices.
I've got one old original NSW number plate. Instead of painting the numbers on someone went to the trouble of cutting the letters/numbers out of 1/4" aluminium sheet and blind riveting them on.
The other, of similar age, has been sand cast in aluminium.
They must be worth at least as much as his. LOL

Old is good.

Worthless to some...
...priceless to others.

Long time looker, first time owner.
(1979 HZ)

Google up "intrinsic worth".

Anyone who has 2 x $500,000 to spare is most probably NOT stupid enough to buy a couple of pieces of rusty tin.

I suspect the seller has had ( or has ) some form of mental health issue.

Reminds me of the guy who had a 1970 convertible for sale that I looked at once. After driving for 4 hours! I was greeted by the sight of a rusty mess that had been stripped and lain in a paddock for 6 years! Of course, the pic he'd used in his ad was when he BOUGHT the car, not how it actually was.

He's then rabbiting on about how you just "fix up one piece at a time". His property was littered with such wrecks and he honestly couldn't understand why I didn't want to buy anything. His habit was to buy a car, get it home, spend a couple of days stripping it down out in the yard to "do it up"..then lose interest and leave it in the sub tropical elements for the next decade watching as it slowly turned into a pile of rust.

That guy I swear had something not-quite-right in the head, especially when he started going on about the government gassing people for medical experiments.....okkayyy....*slowly move back towards car, keep smile on face, nodding head "uh huh...oh...yes...hmmm..well...." don't let him get between you and escape car *

Takes all sorts huh?

I think the only person silly enough to pay his prices would be drunk Lotto winner.
My plates will stay on the shed wall.
Maybe he is using the same tactic as an ebay diecast model seller I know. He put a rare Sydney Olympics bus driver's gift model on ebay as an attention getter for $2,000 or offer.
He watches some diecast forums and on all them of they questioned who was this idiot with the stupid price on the Olympic model, but they were all discussing (and buying) his other listings as well, so it worked quite well in attracting bids on his other items.
He would have sold his Olympic model for a fraction of the ebay price but no-one made an offer and he got a reasonable price for it later.
