Off Topic - Forklift

Hey Guys,

Is there anybody on here that knows about forklifts?

I have recently purchased a Crown CG30e Forklift. It is running on straight gas, with an Impco 100 converter.

The hydraulic side of it seems to work well, but when driving, it feels like it is really struggling. I think it may be a combination of poorly adjusted brakes, and engine needing a tune. If you put it in gear whilst idling, it does not move. If you are driving along and put it into neutral and coast to a stop, it will stop and roll back a bit, similar to if you were to do it to a car with handbrake on. The hand brake is off, but definitely works when you put it on.

Are the brakes and handbrake hard to adjust on these forklifts?

Any other suggestions?

I don't have the service history of the forklift, so is there anything else I should be checking or doing to it?

Cheers
Dave

if my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 mph your gunna see some serious s#*t

Best way is to take it to someone who has a hoist, but if that is not possible - With the forklift on a solid level surface, steer wheels chocked. Tilt the mask back towards the cab as far as it will go, safely block up under both sides of the mast with something very solid. Tilt the mast back away from the cab, this will jack the wheels far enough off the ground to see if you can spin them freely with the handbrake off. The brakes can be De-adjusted via the adjuster on the bottom side of the backing plate, If you are not confident it would be best to get someone who knows to do it. If you or anyone does attempt it make sure the forks are either chained up securely so they dont sag down or have the forks sitting on something solid, as the only way to reach the adjusters doing this is by laying under the raised forks. If you are not confident find someone who has the experience.
