Red six cam gear installation

I've done this a fair few times before but since I've been crook I seem to have lost my touch. I've got the timing gear about half way onto my cam but can't seem to get it any further on.

Took it down to a "reputable" engine shop and like every other time I have been there in the past the owner tried everything in his power to buy stuff from him rather than use what I've already got.

If anyone has any special "tips" on how to do it without resorting to a hammer or has the facilities to do it for me I'd be eternally grateful and supply you with an amount of beer (for doing it, not telling me how hahaha)...

Thanks mate, but I don't have a press. Giving my location, that might help haha... I'm in Geelong and occasionally in Altona

Has the keyway slipped half out of it's groove behind the gear and is stopping it from going on any further?

I presume it is an alloy timing gear.
wait till the missus goes out for the day, stick it in the oven at max for half an hour or so you won't get hot enough to damage it then carefully with pliers take it out and drop it on the end of the shaft . good idea to thoroughly clean oil and grease off first to avoid smelling the house up. or if you have a gas bbq try on that or use a blowtorch or oxy but watch the heat .

Thanks fellas, putting it in the oven might not work now as it i halfway on the cam, don't think it has slipped out of the keyway but will take a closer look in daylight.

King G, I have to go to Upwey on Saturday morning, could swing by your place if that would be ok?

As johnperth says warm it up,aluminium gears will expand easily in boiling water, and saves the missus getting narky.
