Help with Valve lash... New roller rocker gear.

Hey again boys.

I've just fitted my roller rocker gear, and for the life of me I cannot seem to get the lash right. Can anyone help with tips or tricks they have used to set the rocker gear correctly ?

I've fitted them, tried to adjust them a hand full of times to no avail. (On the red 202)

Thanks lads.

what type of head, and what type of rockers do you have - there are several types available, some have adjustment, some simply use shims.

Hey mate,

Standard red 202, 9 port head.

Fully adjustable roller rocker gear. The type that has a 9/16" adjusting bolt with the hex key locking bolt in the centre of it.

ok, sounds like your head has had screw in studs fitted.

what lash does your cam card say to set it to?? i am of course assuming you have a solid cam.

the 9/16 is the adjustment, the hex is the locking device.

what are you actually having trouble with?? the order of setting them??

Yeah man,

Tried setting them twice. Just wondering if I am doing something wrong. Last time I did this was some years ago. Just making sure I'm working off the same sheet of music as everyone else.

Cheers again man.

Is that you cannot adjust them close enough to get the correct Lash (gap - too wide)?

Is that you cannot adjust them wide enough to get the correct Lash (riding - gap too narrow)?

Is it that the Lash keeps changing after you've adjusted it?

Holdenpaedia, they're the brakes Mate.

They're riding mate. Too tight, and the engine is back firing as a result.

You may need shorter Pushrods.

202 Pushrods (9") are shorter than 186 Pushrods (9 1/8").

Info here ... http://holdenpaedia....

Also, as the other Posters said, if the Lifters are Hydraulic they can mess up your adjustments by closing up all the time depending on how the adjustment is being made.

Solid Lifters would simplify things, provided you have the right Cam for Solid Lifters.

Doesn't the standard 202 have a self adjusting hydraulic cam? This would throw your adjustment out everytime???

You need a solid cam and solid lifters - why would you fit roller rockers with a standard cam anyway?

Mushy Lifters would seem to offset the advantages.
