a star fire motor from what i remember is a 202 6 with 2 cylinders cut off the back to make it a 4 cyl so they should fit

i know one of my mates that built speedway 186 motors and 202 to go in his torana speedway car used to chase the push rods for them as he said they where stronger

Hmmm, two thirds of 6 gives 4, right?
Two thirds of 3.3 litres must be 2.2 litres.

The 'Starfire'* motor was 1.9 litres.
The 2.2 was built and tested, but considered by Holden engineers at the time to be unacceptable in terms of NVH (noise, vibration & harshness). Basically, a rough dog of a motor.

The original 1.9 motor and subsequent Starfire 'powerplant' are indeed cut-down versions of the 173ci (2.85 litre) Red and then Blue motors.

HKing - of Powerwood.

* If ever there was a misnomer it was the name 'Starfire'...!

'i'm definately shore that guage wont work with my tuff bango diff and Opal sydcrome box,if it goes though my grill, and I put the breaks on I realize its better with the glimer belt & tunned holly and Ederbrock duel feul webber gaurds, wiht etc primmer.'

AFAIK Starfire rods came in all blue and black sixes and of course the starfire fourbanger (... which is based on the blue 173 anyhoo..yeah ?)

Edit: I should just get off me bum and look as i have a blue 173 set aside in my scrap pile that i've been going to get the rods out of.

Blue 2850 (173) uses Starfire rods, infact all blue/black motors do.
The Backfire 4 was actually based on the 173, not the 3.3

Many Thanks Everyone.

The 2850 has Main Bearings the same Diameter as a 3.3 and a 202.

The 173 uses Main Bearings the same Diameter as 149, 161, 179, 186 (the shorter stroke Crankshaft).

So you can fit star fire rods into a 186, by using blue 173 Rods. Or into a 202 by using Blue 3.3 Rods... So I assume therefore that you can't fit Starfire rods, from a Starfire 4 into a Red 202... Is that right?

My understanding is that Starfire Rods can be fitted to any red Six Engine.

The Big End Journal is the same Diameter for all red, blue and black Sixes.

Starfire rods are considerably heavier than the red rods
