HR.... V6 or V8

Hello people,
i have been throwing around the idea of converting my HR
to either V6 or V8, the ute is a daily driver, not a show car.
I know its going to hurt my wallet to convert, but im willing to do it
what do people think? V6 or V8

“You'd better send a meat truck. Charlie's copped a saucepan in the throat.”

V8 of course! A mild 253, made to look "factory" (ie DON'T cut the inner guards - it's not easy with a Holden V8, but it can be done!)

The best thing to do with a 253 is run a stainless wire about 8mm thick up from the crank through one of the push rod holes, clamp it so it cannot come loose, then drop it in the river.

Makes a terrific anchor for a House Boat.

Noosa River circa 1996.

To the V8 voters above - Why???

The V6 will be twice as quick, easier to engineer, lighter so will give better handling and drink ½ the fuel...

The ONLY advantage of the 8 in this case is the sound.

Totally agree.

Surely there is an exhaust set-up that can co-erce a decent sound out of the 3.8 motor...?

HKing - wheezy but strong.

WHAT? no gravy?

i think i am going to go with the V6.
The old HR ute is my daily drive and i plan to keep it for ever.
V8 would be nice, but the price to run will be costly, V6 cheaper to run,
nothing like giving the old lion a new heart

When you say "V6", I assume you mean Commodore V6? They are, undoubtably, efficient motors, and a good fit in any early Holden - but what to do when they go wrong? If you're referring to a Chev V6, they too fit well, as do the Chev small-block, or Holden, V8's, but without the electronics. It basically boils down to whether you'd prefer something you can tune and repair yourself, or something you can't - and how many wires you want!
