Commodore wheel center caps on HQ studs?

Everyone knows that commo wheels don't go on HQ studs, but I have a set of Jaguar 16"x7" steel wheels that look like interceptors but have HQ pattern (for real! they are 120.65PCD). Not exactly to my tastes visually (on HZ Van) but practical, the cheapest way for me to go 16" and most importantly tough. But I thought there could be a cheap way to tart them up since they have no trims or centre caps.

There's heaps of commodore interceptor stuff on eBay like 16" trim rings (should fit) and centre caps (maybe??). Since the centre caps take no load they should be OK to put on my HQ pattern studs and wheels, right? That "almost fit" should be OK just to get the centre cap to sit still. Is that a really dumb question? I'm not gonna chase Jaguar centre caps when I can get something like this cheap.

Yep, they'll be fine. It is only the taper of the nuts that keeps these things on...

be wary about VE centre caps, i saw somewhere that the PCD changed for the VE, but i don't know if they went bigger or smaller or by how much, the WB used same design ones as the early commys and as the PCD was close they could have been the same ones, they were being built at the same time

Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy car parts, and that makes me happy :)

Thanks for that tip, I'll do a search on VE PCD. I can't see any WB centre caps on eBay at the moment so thought I'd try commo. Unless I get interceptor-style centre caps the only real alternative is a generic one, but these would look pretty cheesy on interceptors:

Has anyone seen any other centre caps that would suit an interceptor? I've owned them for 10 hrs and after some initial buyers remorse they're growing on me.

Dunno if they're the same, but WB's had a similar cap which will fit if you have the correct style of nut. Just be sure (whatever you use) that the cap is not preventing the nut taper from seating correctly on the wheel taper. (The Jags are Chev/HQ pattern as you stated.)

AFAIK, the VE PCD is still 5/120 but the studs are MUCH bigger...

You're on the money Qute, VE has the same PCD as VB to VZ but VB to VZ has 12mm studs and VE has 14mm studs.

Holden put out a press release some time ago warning against using VE wheels on pre-VE Commodores because of the difference in stud size.

I don't think the VE pcd has changed, as far as I know, it's just the centre hub section (whatever it's called), that supports the rim, is actually smaller on the VE.

Also, you will need the right style of wheel nut to hold those caps on.

Growing old is unavoidable, growing up is optional ;)

Wheelnut is correct....same PCD different size spigot with the correct nuts to suit.
I think the taper of the wheel nut hole was the worry that no one listens to.
