Be aware the Cam Lobe Wear in Holden V8's can be caused by Oil Starvation to the Lifters.

The Lubrication Holes were too small as a result of Core Shift in the Casting process.

Some people drill the Holes out further.

Holdenpaedia, they're the brakes Mate.

I fitted a "JP" High-Volume pump when I rebuilt my 253 (including new cam and new "Eaton" hydraulic lifters). Still going strong and quiet (and untouched) after 14 years and 160,000 K's.

thanks T for that gem. i have a pretty good hunch that this is the problem. i have allways had good oil pressure and have reguarly changed the oil and filters so doubted it is a pump issue and more of a restriction in the block., and no. 7 is the culprit.
will have a crack at it when its out and cleaned up a bit.
