powerglide

Hey,I have had to drop powerglide trans from engine ( car on ground ) and i am now having major drama refitting. I can get housing halfway on locating lugs but that is as far as goes on. I have tried refitting converter 6 times and same happens. The converter fells like it is fully engaged.Does anyone know measurement from face of housing to converter lug? or any advise would be much appreciated.

When you think you are pushing hard, push harder.

As long as your convertor is fully on and your angles are right, it will go. To help the geometry, jack the front of the engine up a little but careful the fan doesn't go through the radiator.

Not that different from Trimatic ... http://holdenpaedia....

Position the Oil Pump Notches inside the Powerglide at the top and bottom.

Make sure the Torque Converter Notches are in the same place.

Press the Torque Converter on and make small turns and jiggles.

The Torque Converter is on properly when it's all the way to the back of the Bellhousing.

Tie it back there with something strong like Wire so that it won't fall forward during installation.

Don't forget to check any Locator issues. Are there 2 fitted where there should only be one?

Holdenpaedia, they're the brakes Mate.

i had this trouble when doing my trimatic a few years ago, u just have to make sure the converter prongs for the pump are lined up as t said.
its fairly easy for them to slide foward and turn out of position. if these arent lined up and slid in properly if you just try and force it will end up cracking the bellhousing and possible damaging convertor and pump

WHAT? no gravy?

With a Trimatic at least (same may apply to Powerglide), it helps to face the empty bellhousing toward the sky and lower the torque converter into place, making sure the front pump dogs engage in the slots of the converter. If the tranny is horizontal the internals are offset toward the bottom and getting the converter in can be a dashed bother.

When fitting powerglide converters you have to make sure it clicks in twice or drops in twice not the one time. If you do get it together with only the one click on start up you will crack your bellhousing. Cheers.
