its a custom car . not built to please others - only built to please the owner . at least they got guts to be different instead of building torana,s / monaro,s , that we see every day over & over again .. THOUGH I DONT really like it i mustsay its different . I remember when all those people put gt boot spoilers on thier holdens - not to mention people are still putting 12 slot ford style rims on thier holdens today ,to me it looks stupid but to them it was proberly the best thing they seen ..SICKO,S

If your keen to see the front, I have a few pics in my shed, from the Pine Rivers Hot Rod show a couple of years back.

It certainly is different, and to see it up close, it is pretty full on, the work that would have gone into making it.

I believe the front guards are FB / EK, but the wheel arches have been grafted on to opposite guards, so the left hand guard has the right hand wheel arch grafted to it and vice versa.

Love it, or loathe it, it is a BIG effort!

Finally someone has done this - it was only a matter of time. The concept isnt new - the yanks did this in the 90's with a shoe box Ford ( 1950 Spinner) That car was very well received - because its proportions work.

I like this one - although its been let down with some bad proportions from some angles. The front is too long yet the back is just spot on. The deep side glass hip line dosent work so well either.

Its because of this the car gets bad reviews. From me personally it gets a thumbs up. I like it - just the execution hasnt quite made it.

If the proportions were right - then this car would get rave reviews. I havent seen a magazine feature on this - obviously it's not any of the magazines cup of tea either.

Bottom line- its cool - if not a tad awkward.

Yes, a front 3/4 photo of this has been posted here a good coupla years ago.

What was attempted with it is obvious.
What resulted is fundamentally flawed.

SO MUCH vehicle design is about proportion. This one has some awkward proportions and details at the rear, but the front is a hugely dysfuntional mess! The front overhang is far too big. Wheelbase:overall-length and front-guard:overhang proportions are amongst the most significant in '2 or 3 box' car design. They affect how stable and tough a car appears. This one has fumbled and dropped the ball badly. It lets down the effort and thoroughness that seems to have been put into the finishing of the project.

The mix of old school chrome and contempoary body/colour and blackout treatment also lets this project down. Personally, I think chroming the door handles and window surrounds would give some more integration - maybe even reducing how troubled the window line and hip-line disconnection is. Grafting in some period door handles would really step it up!

'i'm definately shore that guage wont work with my tuff bango diff and Opal sydcrome box,if it goes though my grill, and I put the breaks on I realize its better with the glimer belt & tunned holly and Ederbrock duel feul webber gaurds, wiht etc primmer.'

It seems "rushed* in the making, more little things could have been done like door handles, more chome and a nicer job on the bonnet.

cheers Gary.

More of the same maddness. Again I think the rear looks pretty good but the front seems too long or maybe its just because the guard isn't very tall.

I'm pretty sure someone was/is building those cars to limited order. It was a couple of years ago though. Think it may have been in street machine.

First rule - is there are no rules!
However there are some general guidelines that need to be adhered to in order to avoid public rejection.

Flow and form is the general theme to follow. So to that end either choose shapes that are similar from a similar era or use shapes that mimic that era. Don't put round with square unless there is some sort of natural transition. One way to blend round with square is via a style line or curve - elements that can make a clean distinction between the two.

The human eye is easily deceived if there are natural shapes and breaking points between these shapes. We like the older cars mostly because they have shapes and forms we can associate with nature- like hip lines. The coke bottle hip is an element used in retro styling of modern muscle cars. Take that away and they just become boxes. The reintroduction of wheel arch flares into modern cars is another retro element that helps define natures lumps and bumps.

For a while cars become bland boxes - zero lumps and bumps and all too smooth with no natural character. This is akin to looking at those skinny runway models that look like they need a decent feed to gain back natures female shapes we can relate to. Modern muscle cars like the Camaro or Dodge have extra muscle in their overall silhouette - bicep like wheel arches and hips - using both male and female natural elements. Top that off with round headlights with a brow of body work over them - and you have a crouching predator like a wild African large cat staring at you.

Take a box and add some of these elements back and front - and dont change anything in the middle and you have a design that argues with itself. The idea is to blend old and new and make it look natural. It cannot nearly work - it has to work overall. This is why there are detractors from the car shown here. Some elements work oh so well- but argue with the original design. Flow and form simply must compliment each other 100% from every angle.

Having said all that - this car should be enjoyed for what it is - fun with cars. That's the bottom line. OK so the design elements are not coherent with most tastes - but at least the builder had some fun. I too havent got all my designs spot on either- I am also guilty of building cars that have arguing elements. I learned from this and moved on to the next - improving each time I hope!
Think of any artist - their early attempts often struggle. Some artists just never get it right - some are lucky enough to get it right first time.

Sure we all sit back and be critical - but how many of you ever step outside the comfort zone of acceptability and be brave enough to push ahead with your dreams and ideas? Not many...
Cars like the EKadore belong on the scene in their own right. While controversial - its still a vehicle of interest and one that others can draw inspiration from and learn from.

That's why I like it and why it gets a thumbs up from myself.

Cheers streetneat-Andrew.

Sure, plenty of skilled work went into this bus and I can't fault the imagination but jeez it is ugly.

You'd be pushing it back in if it came out of your missus. lol

Looking back to the early eighties, when I first became aware of StreetMachining, the ONLY car to Successfully combine OLD (HG) and Back then NEWISH,(VK) was Alan Flemings HG Panno. a great blend of old & new IMHO! SPOT ON FROM ALL ANGLES!
I will now try to find link to pics.

She was just a whiskey maker, but I loved her still.

Alan's van worked visually for the same reasons I listed above. The general shape of of a HG Van and the profiles he used from the VK are actually very similar. So he didn't try to fit square pegs into round holes.

So the two cars used- HG and VK - were not that far apart. Alan's van came about in my very early days of panel beating and I took a lot of notice of not only Alan's van - but his message - be the Innovator not the Imitator. Hence the name of the van - Innovator.

Here is something else to consider- if there were no ugly cars- there would be no beautiful cars. Same with money - if there were no rich people - there would be no poor people... think about that..
