Oil Change for the Kingo!

How many litres of oil for a (HX if it matters!) 253 oil change and how much extra for the filter?
Does anyone know difference between top and bottom of dipstick, ie how much to add?
Thanks in Advance
Steve

Apparently 4.0 litres and .8 for the filter. Approx .6 up the stick.

About 4 litres is right,BUT use a small genuine GMH filter, this adds about .5 ltr to the total quantity but improves pressure and can help quiten top end, as well as quicker pressure on startup.

Cheers!!

Thanks for that: I am having bigger problems getting oil to the top end: When I bought her she had a stuffed petrol pump. When I parked her with her bum in the air, about 5 litres of petrol leaked into the sump. Without realising this, I tried to start her with out much success. She turned over and ran for a few lumpy minutes, but wouldn keep an idle (Not surprised!) I replaced the oil and the filter, and had no oil pressure. So I repacked the oil pump with vaso and filled the filter with oil, but this has done nothing. The top end is still completely dry and rattly. I am too scare to keep her running for fear of damage.

Any suggestions.'

if its running without pressure i would be more worried about the big end and main bearings.... they wont last very long without oil and if its REALLY rattely thats probably the sound your hearing.

maybe you could try pulling the oil pump cover off and turn the motor over by hand to make sure the pump is actually working. also make sure the spring loaded bypass valve is shut. if you still have no luck you may have to pull the sump off and check that the pickup isnt blocked.

good luck

1/ Check the oil pressure relief valve is not stuck open.

2/ What oil pressure are you running?

3/ Did it get oil to the top when you first started it ?

4/ If not possible crack in the oil pickup in the sump.

NOTE : If the car has sat for a long while chances are the lifters have bled down. One way to rectify this is to remove the lifters and soak in oil over nite, this is done when rebuilding engines. The second way is to start the engine and run @ 1|500 RPM for a couple of minutes to get oil up there - MAKE SURE YOU HAVE OIL PRESSURE FIRST !

GOODLUCK,

MAC.

On the advice of a mate, I left it idle for a longer period of time then I was comfortable with.

EVENTUALLY the oil reached the top and started to do its job.

Much better when I actually put the leads on the correct plugs!!!!

I drove her around the block yesterday and it was theraputic.......

Now for the welsh plugs and the Universals........ gulp

I think i'll seek professional assistance on these ones!!!!

THANK YOU to all who posted to help.'
