Apologies to all the spray painters out there!!

First and foremost I'm a back yarder who's (attempting) to restore a cascade green HG Kinga.

Over the last week or so, I've been prepping the panels for undercoat. I found out that I applied bog well and had a good eye and sanding technique - NOW, this is where I laugh at all those clowns who say 'All the hard work has been done' - Bullsh%t (fill the gap).

I hung the doors in my garage, and made a little spray booth, forgetting exactly how much air is generated by the gun and the fun began.

I got paint everywhere.

In my hair.
On the walls.
On the floor.
In every orifice you can think of...you get the picture. The result? My sanding wasn't that good and there are camels living under my paint job. (humps? get it?)

Anyway, the job stinks and I would like to unequivocally apologise to all those painters who have ever quoted me for a job - I have scoffed at the asking price and I take back (double) all my ignorant retorts and questioning of your parentage.

To all those out there who are as frustrated as me, go to the bank and pull out some money and pay your paint shop - it's worth every red cent.

Mmmmm I love the taste of thinners in the morning....Happy New Year to you all.

James

... the old expression goes if it was easy someone else would do it...
Don't give up - you have only just begun to have fun. Learn from your mistakes and give it another go or three... Its only paint.
Also here's a tip - try painting the car - not everything else... stand on the side away from the paint spray...
:-)

Then again paint shops exist for those in over their heads in terms of lack of gear and experience/facilities.

There is one part you got right - most paint shops are of questionable parentage...

Cheers streetneat Andrew.

Cheap, Fast, Good - pick two.
If its cheap and its fast - it wont be good.
If its good and its cheap - it wont be fast.
If its fast and its good - it wont be cheap.

Really appreciate your comments but I'm a bit stung at the moment and might look at it again later.

I'm going to get some good gear and not scrimp on the paint, so I'll go again...but, I really appreciate spray painters now!! :)

I have sprayed a few cars in the back yard/garage and the more recent ones have come out great but the first time i had exactly your camel problem, i had water bubbling under my paint the solution get a filter another thing i do is hang tarps around the walls of your garage because if spraying 2 pac it will drift and stick to everything! practice makes perfect and as andrew/streetneat mentioned stand on the side away from the paint spray.
Good luck

We have been doing the same thing for the last 4 days and this project for the last 2 years. After so much time and effort we have gotten it to being ready to paint and thought it would give us a huge boost. Wrong , we bought a new compresser and had a new gun but spayed the first few panels and we have some water bubble, bit of orange peel and a spider evern decided to take a walk and get stuck over the bonnet. So we have sanded it back again (for the 20ths time) and it has come up a bit better. I wish we could aford a booth. We are hoping the final sandback and clear will bring it up much better. Funny we didn't have the same issues with painting the engine bay and it was with the 20 year old compresser. Any Getting on it to night in a big way to see ourselves into the new year and will get on to attacking the rest of the car in the new year.

good luck..hope you are not using 2 pac, very dangerous fumes.
buy yourselves a pair of disposable coveralls they go from top of head down to cover your feet, and with a bit of care last for years, mine are about 10 years old, they only cost a few bucks.
the weather could have a big bit to do with your problem very humid/wet air will accumulate water in the compressor tank that is why it has a drain plug, use it each time you turn the compressor on.
and it won't hurt to buy a water trap, for the effort you are putting in to it the $35 or so is not expensive.

happy new year

Yes they do generate alot of air. Especially in confined spaces.

My missus is into spray tans, so me being a tight ar$e decided to spray her tan one night using my 2.5hp compressor and a new spray gun (with 1.8 nozzle) in my small downstairs bathroom. Wont be doing that again, dark mist everywhere......
