HZ Panelvan

Recently picked up a HZ 78 Panelvan. Horn is at present not working and on inspection has only one set of wires attatched with a second metal connection plate bare. No sign of any wires to connect to the other horn connection. Any ideas?

Hey How's things? I have a HJ panel Van. I had a very similar problem, the car did not come with any horn when i bought it. I found a small relay that was under the bonnet with a spare wire. i connected this to a horn and earthed the other wire. I suggest you connect the other horn in parrallel and make shore you have a wire that is earthed or goes to the negative terminal. Good luck! Let us know how you go.

Regards
Barnzie

Hi - the single wire to the horn button is correct. The way horns genarally work is that constant power is supplied to the horn ( which is insulated from earth )

When you press the horn the earth is supplied to the horn unit. It is done this way so that if something causes the wire to contact a metal part inside the steering column it doesn't cause a live wire to short to earth.

- just establish that a: one wire to the horn has constant power to it.
b: the other wire is neither a live wire or earth but becomes an earth when the horn button is pressed.

cheers / good luck, Graham.
