Which Spark Plug?

Hi all, couldnt find the info anywhere, so ill ask here. Its a no brainer i guess for some but im struggling a little.

I have a 253 from a WB and im upgrading to HEI Distributor. The distributor is a Bosch from VK. Do i now use VK plugs? If so, i was going to go with the Bosch HR9BPY Platinum's, are these a suitable plug?

I do however, know that i have to use good plugs and the gap is set to 1.5 and a HEC716 coil. I hope this is correct?

Thanks
Greg

I'm sure MyEH will come along in the morning with the plug model...

If it is a blue 253, it should already have HEI and use the same plug as a VK V8...

Its a red motor Dave, its actually in my HZ 1 tonner. When i looked up the engine number i found it was from a WB commercial cab. Ive actually owned the Tonner for 23 years but replaced the engine from the wreckers when i blew mine up, so god knows what was done to it? Although, it was a Gem rebuild that had only done 10,000k's some 5 years ago, ive only done about 1000k's since. Its actually quite a smooth quick engine for the $500 i paid for it.

The heat range and Plug properties don't change, only the Gap so it's no big problem.

You can't get a square 1.5mm Gap unless you buy a Plug that's been designed to support it properly.

The result is a Plug that burns its Gap wide too quickly because there isn't enough parallel Metal.

Holdenpaedia, they're the brakes Mate.

HR9BCY+ is the right plug for any carby Holden V8 with HEI, this works with HEC716 perfectly. This is a copper core plug. If you want a platinum plug, ie longer life, than go for HR9BPY+. The WB 253 should have a HEI dissy already. These plugs are pregapped to 1.5mm stright out of the box..

Yeh thanks EH. I wish the motor did have an HEI dissy in it, would have saved be a few bucks but , like i said, who know whats happened to it either before or after the Gem rebuild? Someone must have wanted it.

Thanks!

HZ 1 ton in sunny Blacktown.

Order 253 WB plugs.

They will be the right ones for a red 253 converted to Bosch HEI.
1/2" reach, tapered seat (no gasket) 1.5 mm gap.

As Dave Qute says, the original WB 253 had Bosch HEI.
