34ADM Weber on 253 ...Photo Evidence of my crazy idea's (but actually pretty damn good)

Well here's a couple of pictures to show, yep it's been done.
I will say it was very good all round. It stayed on the car until I went full time gas.

34 ADM on 253 Pictures

Found 2 pictures (above). (Thanks Dusty) have a look, see what you think. Picture 2 (attachment) is the underside of the adaptor. I used a squarebore to quady adaptor underneath so I could connect the PCV line in. Put it this way, If I had a 253 right now it would have this setup on it. Period.

hi LMH. are you wanting to

hi LMH. are you wanting to sell your weber adapator. if not did you make it your self. if so would you make one for me at a price. also from what i can tell from your pics you have the weber primary over the q-jet secondarys why is this???. thanks . john

Weber 253 adaptor for John

Hi John, thanks for the offer, but I want to hang on to it. Just took me so long to make. Hours with the Hole saw, and even more with the die grinder.
Your right about the primary favouring the rear or secondary. Throttle cable lined up better but the main thing was I figured the more open secondary was more suited to the transition from one venturi to two. I had a 1/2 inch spacer under this as well so there was mixing between front and rear ports anyway. It is not unusual for adapted carbys to reverse primary and secondary. When the weber is used to replace a Varajet on a 6 it also swaps primary and secondary.
I purchased the slab of solid aluminium as a scrap off-cut from Capral Aluminium at Geebung in Brisbane. Cost about $40 at the time. Then I purchased a Die grinder and bit, then a 40mm high quality metal hole saw, then cutting oil. I had to cut through 40mm of aluminium twice (nearly killed the bench drill) then about 2 or 3 hours solid with a die grinder. (nearly killed the poor air compressor). It is a great mod BUT if you don't have access to an engineering workshop be prepared to put some time into it. That said it is a very interesting one off. If it was straight forward I'd consider making you one but I've got a ton of trouble with house reno's at the moment, so just don't have the time. Any how, I've confirmed it can be done, and it does work. Also, you have seen how I did it which is I guess one way of doing it. There are probably other ways as well. You do need a lot of bonnet clearance though. A9X scoop or similar.

hi LMH. did you change the jeting at all. if so what did you use. also i see in you pic that you used spaces beteen you weber and adaptor plate what did you use. thanks .john

Weber jetting on 253

No John, no change to jetting. The Ford book shows same jetting for 3.3 or 4.1 litre Falcon, so I didn't bother.

Oh and the spacers

They are the normal thick weber insulators x3 so the accelerator pump clears the adaptor. I ran these same one's when it was on the VK 6.

LMH

i make carby adaptors

my biggest seller is the 34adm to 2 barrel manifold (holley patern)

i have often thought how 1 would go on a 253, but i never did get around to trying it

now you've done the hard yards, if you'd like to take the project further (put some on the market to sell) then send me a email and we'll discuss this further

check out my shed, there's some of the things iv'e done in there

weber

davequey

Hi Dave, this photo is a couple of years old now. This ute is gone and I have another one now. Running a 202, but guess what carby it's got? You guessed it, the same Weber in the picture. Cars might come and go but the Weber stays. I never thought about getting a quantity made up purely because of the height issue. Didn't think too many would want to fit a scoop just for a 2 barrel carb setup. I checked out your casting process in your shed. Loved it! Now that's a way to make a part.
I did a similar thing on my HT, but I welded up a hat that bolted on and ran to an airbox, same idea though.

gone

no worries mate

i thought of doing such a thing but i never did get around to it, i did have a crazy idea for a laugh though, what about dual webers on a 308 :-O, i'd spend time on such a project cause i could, it'd get tongues waging no doubt!!! hahahha

now for some sense

how much too high was the carby for bonnet clearance?, your adaptor looks quite high, was it mm or cm too tall

i had the idea of fitting

i had the idea of fitting "triple webers" to a slant 6 valiant...

i have about 5 of these carbys, have not paid for any of them so a hell of a lot cheaper than the "real" weber ie dcoe45-48 etc...

hi dave

i cant send e mail thought this site . my pc wont let me. this is it. westgarthjohn@yahoo.com.au. please reply ASAP. thanks john

Hey LMH, Awesome setup. Is

Hey LMH, Awesome setup. Is that a plywood insulator you have between the carb & the spacer?

My Shed

Red Seat

Those insulators are like a thick cardboard type. They come with the weber rebuild kit. My local auto store sells them separately. 3 are needed so the accel pump lever clears the top of the adaptor.

i CAN highly RECOMMEND DAVES

i CAN highly RECOMMEND DAVES adapter and spacers he makes for the webbers ive brought a fair few off him and they all work and fit great never had a problem with them , and his spacers are much better than using multiples of the webber spacer insulators..
