No. No. No.
It's great in modern cars that are engineered for it. Terrible in our old carburettor cars.
E10 will eventually ruin all the rubber in your fuel system and carburettor.
My boss ran E10 in the VW transporter, it is designed for premium 95. The mechanic told him not to use E10 several times but the boss persisted because it was cheaper. The van was doing around 1,000km a week and over 18months it began to get really unreliable, breaking down almost weekly. Eventually it died completely due to all the rubber in the fuel system being destroyed by the ethanol in E10.
It cost just under $900 to fix it. I do the deliveries now and have done 50,000 trouble free km on premium.
David
I used that stuff in my 2004 Holden Rodeo and it made it ping. Now it has to be run on 98 octane from BP. We have also tried it in our EH that has a EFI 5L from a 91 Commodore. After 2 days of E10 the fuel pump starts to make noise, put 98 from BP and it stops the noise and the engine runs smoother.
Don't worry, Captain Bligh is quietly pushing for unleaded to be phased out totally (very soon, if she gets her way) and apparently our only option will be E10, or Premium.
Great choices - crap fuel, or 12c per litre dearer fuel.
If she succeeds, the E10 will go up in price anyway, as there is not enough farm land in the country to supply enough ethanol for all of our fuel needs, so, supply & demand rules will dictate an increase in prices.
I bought a VE commodore which has been run on E10. I started using unleaded with a fuel treatment here and there, especially in the early days, gotten slack on the treatment lately, and it runs much smoother now, than when we first got it, and gets better fuel economy, and the label on the fuel filler flap says E10 is fine to use?
I reckon E10 is rubbish, (and I strongly doubt E20 would be any better) and for the 2 or 3 cents you save, you lose it in extra fuel usage, that's without even thinking of the extra maintenance it would cause you to contend with.
Apparently the higher the ethanol content, the better the fuel is? I don't know what would be involved in converting an older car to run on it, but I have heard they have E85 in W.A. and get excellent results from it - cleaner, more power etc?
Have a look at e-85.com.au , e-85 should be available in Sydney & Melbourne this month and all states by October , check the you tube vid , it's american but makes a good case.
There was an article in Street Machine last year by a guy who re-engineers cars to run on E85.
Basically, he said : "Don't bother unless it's a dedicated race car".
He said the only gain from E85 was an increase in performance from E86 but this came at the cost of a 20% increase in fuel consumption. He said that for a street car it would not save any money. E85 is around 20% cheaper, but you'll burn 20% more so there is no advantage.
There is no environmental advantage in E85. It produces more CO2 to grow the crops and process them into E85 than it does to drill and refine crude oil to petrol.
Yes it may burn cleaner, but is it 20% cleaner to cover the 20% extra you'll be burning? I think not.
E85 is renewable, but at what cost? As Wheelnut said, we need farmland to produce E85. For the world it is a choice of E85 or food. There is not enough farmland or water for both. Think of what would happen to food prices and supply if we go even 20% E85. The greedy farmers behind the politicans they control will make a fortune either way.
V8 Supercars run the sh!t. Maybe this just part of the big plan to make us car enthusiasts and the general public think E85 is a good thing.
All I can say is thank God is isn't available up here. My boss has already said he'd run everything on E85 because it'll save him heaps. He reckons they wouldn't be allowed to sell it if it was as bad as I said.
David
I used to go for 98 from BP but locally I can get 98 at Caltex. On half a tank it is only a couple of dollars and the old girl is happiest. Also notice a little difference when it's fresh fuel! Stock 186hp. Otherwise I use 95 if I have to.
A bloke at one place I worked was into selling guarana coffee and these tablets to go into your fuel tank. Still have them in the glove box and not game to try, just like E fuel.
Forget E10, skip E20, 30 etc, and straight to E85 and beyond.
E85 is way cool. We are having some awesome results from it at the track. The power benefits of methanol, with the reliability of petrol, +or- the obvious percentage of course.
This would be disastrous for old cars. And even in cars that are made only recently and engineered to tolerate ethanol, it is a pretty poor fuel for street use.
My old faithful BMW ran decently on E10, but much better on 98 Octane, and beautifully on 98 Octane with ethanol when it was available from an independant fuel retailer I use - hard to get. When ethanol-98 was no longer available, it took straight 98 until the day it died. But I think that car would run on anything, to illustrate that, it was built in the early 1980s in South Africa, where the international embargos had forced the Saffers to produce petroleum from coal.
My current Commy V6 runs terribly on E10, I hate how it burns through it like a kid does coins in a video game arcade. I don't use that anymore. You can't get straight 91 octane much in Sydney now so even in the country I just suck up the cost of straight 98 to keep the engine clean.
The HZ....ethanol will never pollute its' system. If all fuel suddenly had ethanol just think, every one of us would need to go have the engine and fuel pump and tank etc etc converted. It may cost $X to convert now, it would go down for a while if we all had to go out and convert all at once, but then after a while like all things it would go up to cost $2X. Then consider, everyone who restores an engine in their shed, or puts a car back onto the road thats been in a shed for 20 years, theres ANOTHER cost, mandatory conversion for ethanol.
Wheel Nut has a good argument above. On the other hand, I just found this quickly regarding the VE Series II: "Both V6 and V8 models in the VE Series II Commodore line-up have been designed as the first Australian-made vehicles to run on bio-ethanol as well as conventional petrol.
.
Bio-ethanol, also known as E85, is a cleaner burning fuel capable of cutting carbon dioxide emissions by up to 40 per cent.
.
It is produced from the by-products created during the processing of wheat, sugar and sorghum. The ethanol is then blended with 15 per cent petrol.
.
But Holden is also investigating the viability of establishing Australia's first ethanol plant that would produce the fuel from household and other waste."
Watched "OZ Garage" on channel 31 (vic) which had one of the teams from this years supercar V8 comp' talking about the change to the new fuel. A few challenges which they overcome but the increase in fuel consumption does not make it a viable alternative at this stage for commutors. The price drop does NOT compensate for the extra usage. I tried it in my 96 Ford (daily shopping trolley) and it was not worth it. There was a performance drop and increase usage. It didnt ping but surprisingly it started leaking from the fuel pump seal (wagon on side) at the second fill. I used an old fuel sender seal from an XF which stopped it leaking. Maybe weak seals are prone to failure with short term use?
Hope this helps with anyone deciding what to run. But one day petrol will be in short supply and expensive so i've started looking at distilling an alcohol base (methanol) for my 308. Trouble is I cant find the legalities of running a backyard distillery. Any ideas where to look??(ive got the room not to risk blowing up the neighbors).
Some countries have for many years run with 100% ethanol for many years. These are poor countries (inhabited by a lot of rich folk too) and yet they ALL seem to love the stuff.
The countries that made the switch many years ago are reporting it is the way to go. They interviewed the average motorist and its difficult to find folk over there that aren't 100% happy and even go so far to say its better than petrol which of course is still available too. So either someone did a great job in pulling the wool over the populations eyes- or it is actually good stuff.
This is all nothing new. Its just taken a while to prise the oil companies grip away from petroleum. Remember the oil companies are actually energy companies, so if the product changes so be it. The company's main focus on selling energy wont change.
In time the fuel in your car will be 100% ethanol. As there are other ingredients - I feel someone has slightly misrepresented the 100% claim - I think its more like 98 % and 2% of secret herbs and spices...
In methanol burning cars like drag racers- they dont mind chewing more fuel to go faster. I always get a giggle when folk here whine about perceived increased costs - even when they negate the difference ( 20% cheaper but uses $20% more) So if you are not worse off - why the grumble? At least you can keep using your piston engined cars (rotors too if thats your bent)
Nope its just good old resistance to change. People moan when there is nothing done and then moan when something is done. Be sure of one thing - people will always moan about something....

I think it's less about resistance to change and more about the fact that the alcohols have about 70% (or less) of the energy content of gasolines, it's simple mathematics. If you want to water down your fuel then go right ahead, but a lot of us real Aussies tune our engines for MORE power, not less.
As far as a New Zealander telling Australia what fuels to use based on what Brazil is doing, that's pretty funny. I mean seriously, South America? You do know they were still producing XM Falcons up to, what, the nineties? LOL

You might just get labelled 'wacker'. Some of the nicest people have been on the receiving end of that name, from Mr P, lately :-)
Speaking of which, Bob Katter, has grown in my estimation over the last couple of weeks. Apart from his nut-bag idea about reversing entire Nth Qld rivers to turn marginal land into farms, he has shown a great deal of patience and moderation during this tricky government situation.

I used to think a material was 'hydroscopic' but that turned out to be a 'non word' (IE Body filler is 'hydroscopic') I later learnt the correct phrase was hygroscopic - attracts and absorbs H2o moisture. So if alcohol as a liquid that attracts and absorbs H2o would the correct term be Hydrophilic?
Its once again not really to do with anything other than a morbid spelling /grammar curiosity of mine..

Yeah, I think you're right. I'm just casting my mind waaaaaay back to Biology 101 when we talked about the ability of a molecule to be attracted to water (as opposed to water being attracted to it)
Wiki Defn of "Hygroscopic":
Hygroscopy is the ability of a substance to attract water molecules from the surrounding environment through either absorption or adsorption.
Hygroscopic substances include sugar, honey, glycerol, ethanol, methanol, diesel fuel, sulfuric acid, methamphetamine, many salts, and a huge variety of other substances.
"Hydrophilic" Molecule:
"bonding," refers to a physical property of a molecule that can transiently bond with water (H2O) through hydrogen bonding. This is thermodynamically favorable, and makes these molecules soluble not only in water, but also in other polar solvents. There are hydrophilic and hydrophobic parts of the cell membrane.
Then there is Hydrophobic: lipophilic, "fat loving.", that being said... depends what you're into I spose ;)
ethanol is both - it absorbs water from the atmosphere (hygroscopic) and dissolves in water due to the polar bonding between the O part of H2O and the OH part of C2H5OH (hydrophilic). Bog is hygroscopic but wont dissolve in water, ie not hydrophilic.

I ran methanol for years in speedway in engines only modified in jetting to actually supply enough fuel to the engine. I never had problems with damaged seals or any other problems that people claim to have with ethanol blend fuel. I run ethanol blend fuels in my ve commodore, wb caprice, Fj holdens and early buicks. They all have well serviced ignition systems and I find they run better with ethanol. Whilst I like the fuel, it's not going to make fuel any cheaper, it's made from food products and the quantity required to run every vehicle on e85 in the country is massive compared to what is currently produced. It's just going to raise food and fuel prices unless major changes and investment are made to farming.

The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter.
This is a new process that produces ethanol from the cells of plants, grass etc.
There is I believe a company in NSW setting up a pilot plant to produce Ethanol from wood residue.
I ran my Skyline on E-10 for years, never pinged, never had a drama, went like a shower of sh!t.
I run all my other cars on E-10, never a hiccup.

the change to e fuel, adds another varaible factor to supply,
e fuel is made from water (plants need it to grow) dry seasons (drought) will make the competition for supply of grains more intense,
Does this mean we will need to increase the size of fuel lines, increase engine CRs and totally drain the fuel system each night?

OK My Mistake
I was under the impression that we were all here for the same reason, IE: we all have an interest in Old Holdens as a means of daily transport or as a hobby in our limited spare time.
Obviously HenryP is the same as the other little COCKSUCKER who used to come on here and make stupid and CHILDISH remarks without ever putting in to a discussion in a constructive manner.
We gave him what he deserved and ignored the little turd. I will from now on.
I do, however, have one question; What is a halftard?
Some suggestions the others here at work have come up with are: 1/ a halftard - half a bastard - when your parents are married - just not to each other
2/ a halfturd - badly spelt and still not a word!!
3/ he was going to call you a Dimwitted Halfwit but such a glaring OXYMORON was evident even to him or her whichever sex or sexual preference it is.
So there we have it OLD HOLDENers HenryP is now officially dead to me and I will not enter into any more forum jousting with him

Ermmm......unless he uses a static IP from his ISP then the address is meaningless.
Turn off your DSl modem for a while and you'll be assigned a new one from your ISP's netblock when you turn it back on.
So all you can do is find out what ISP they are using and possibly what city they are in......that's all. There's nothing to stop him/her logging off then coming back on again with a different IP (given from their ISP) and all you know is that an IP from the same ISP and city posted up again....
Banning IP's is meaningless unless the site admin wants to ban every person/IP coming from that particular ISP and that has a tendancy to annoy a LOT of people. Hands up who uses Bigpond here, for example....how about banning ALL Bigpond users from the site just because of one clown ?
You see...what happens in "real" investigations is that someone posts up something VERY dodgy....dodgy enough to possibly warrant either civil legal action or criminal investigation by the cops. The cops (or site owner) then looks through the site logs and sees what IP the poster was using AT THE TIME OF POSTING. They then check that IP out and if they are lucky it'll resolve to some Aussie ISP..... the cops can then invoke the Telecommunications Interception Act or ask a judge for a warrant to go to the ISP in question and find out what user was logged into their system using that IP...etc etc.....OR in a civil case the person making the complaint can petition a judge to grant an order/subpoena to the ISP forcing them to disclose which user account had that particular IP at the time....IF they can show good cause. Once the posters ISP ACCOUNT (not them personally) is identified then investigations can continue, up to and including search and seizure in criminal cases and sometimes in civil cases too where Intellectual Property theft is suspected to have occurred (the so called Anton Piller order).
If the IP resolves out to some dodgy overseas proxy....or some ISP in Goat-fsckiStan then it's a complete waste of time pretty much....UNLESS the cops want to spend the next 6 months trying to track the person with the help of overseas jurisdictions...and unless the posters surname is Bin Laden then that's just not going to happen unless they are wanted for serial killing or importing a trillion dollars worth of coke into the US or something crazy.
So...don't beleive what you see on CSI....if, as most people do, the poster has a dynamically assigned IP then there's not much anyone can do about it assuming they don't do something really, really "Go to Jail" type bad.
I know that a few years ago there was an idiot on here, the IP was traced back to a specific employer in WA, and the employer was informed of the inapropriate activity

If the idiot was using his work computer then he could be traced as a lot of business use static addressing as they run their own servers.
Static addressing means that every time the connection is made it gets the same IP assigned to it from the ISP....usually to run MTA's etc (mail servers etc ).
Dynamic addressing means each ISP has a "pool" of IP addresses that get handed out when a connection is made. So you turn your modem on, it requests an address from the ISP side and the ISP doles out an available one from the pool.
The above still applies.
Most companies these days will have an IT Acceptable Use Policy that basically means disciplinary action can be taken against employees that excessively use the internet during work hours, or use it to post defamatory, offensive or untrue cr&p on teh Intarwebs.
So,if you are so completely brain dead that you post up offensive cr&p from work, using your work logon then , quite frankly, you deserve all you get.

hahaha, you idiot, you have no idea do you, to make a comment like that is silly, iv'e worked with tradesmen that are useless!, iv'e also worked with dudes with no trade qualifications that are better than the average tradesman
HenryP,
So what if someone has no trade qualifications.
The best tradesmen I've ever known, no matter what trade, were blokes who generally left school early and got a job and learnt it well.
TAFE and a bit of paper does not a tradesman make.
David
Oh dear ...again. In short I cant be bothered responding very much as a response/reaction/reply is what Henry P is hoping for.
I could be boring and photograph/post my actual official trade papers I do have and got together a few years ago. Partly it was necessary as I was aiming at becoming a trade teacher so sort of had to get this stuff in order- but lost interest so never pursued that career. Licensing laws were also supposed to coming in as well in Qld - so that was the other reason I had to go through this crap to get my paperwork in order. It also shut the council up as well. It involves a pretty simple yet mostly pointless/time wasting and costly process of having a Qld Govt approved private sector official visit my shop and put me through a string a tests both written and practical to prove I knew what my trades were.
The ATO has also issued me plenty of paperwork recognising my status as Panel beater/painter/Automotive restoration business operator and proprietor of business of the same nature for the last 21 years... in their words;
"Owning and operating in the above described trade field for a period of seven (7) years shall be deemed as prerequisite to be proficient in that trade"
Actually now they have dropped it to five years - but seven years still applies in NZ where I now reside. Oh yay!~ - I get to go through all this paper chase again...if I choose to...
Seriously the ATO representative explained it to me like this:
'Technically a prostitute has no formal certificates or diplomas stating her(or his) trade - yet for all intensive purposes we will recognise that as a trade and take Tax from any earnings are to be paid in accordance with the income bracket that individuals income falls into.'
I think now the prostitutes are called sex workers and yep they now carry certificates too. That begs the question - who got to sit them through the written and practical tests so they could prove they knew their trade too? Bugger of a job when it came to testing the male sex workers- but I bet someone had to do it!
So I'm a panel beating automotive restoration prostitute! Boy did I have a good chuckle at that - I'm someone that sells my talents for money and pay tax accordingly.
So sorry to burst the bubble Henry - yes I have the pointless bits of paper...
I'm so ashamed right now...( yeah right!)
Apologies for wandering off the topic of ethanol...

Don't feel bad Andrew, just havin a dig at you, and your (obsessively?) repetitive claims of "20 years in the trade" on every second post.
Now if we can get you to drop the "all intensive purposes" faux pas and substitute (the correct cliche) "all intents and purposes" we may be onto something...

(Just in case you missed it, I posted the same above earlier)
"all intensive purposes" yup - the 'Faux Pas' as passed on from the ATO email... Hey who said tax officials had to edumacated? I also sat and passed from memory an Administrative public servants exam - then wondered what the hell I was doing - so never pursued that one either!
In answering posts relative to my trade to newbies here , yes I will state my background. It gives the original poster confidence in the advice he/she is receiving, knowing they are dealing with a professional idiot :-). You may have noticed an absence of my harping on about it when answering my two cents worth on ethanol..I'm not really qualified to answer authoritively you see... :-)
All of my useless bits of 'important paper' and cards laminated have proved totally useless so far in life. They merely exist as a means of revenue raising/ butt covering for appeasing officialdom. "May I see your papers please Andrew, I need to cover my arse" I have been asked that and I did reply -" err if you are going to wipe yourself with them - you may want to remove them from the frame first."
It rarely raised a smile...
Oddly I updated my OSH fork lift ticket prior to leaving Oz - and its the only bloody thing that allowed myself and the entire gang to remain on a building site a few months ago - as I was the only one with the right ticket...despite being an Australian OSH card- it worked - so I worked. They soon all rushed out to get their tickets in order so they could sit on their arses all day in a 50 year old forklift... I became redundant as as result as they could have a $13/hr guy to replace me to work seven days a week.
I hardly take myself seriously - so I really dont expect others to.

Well, perhaps they'd better put their IP sleuthing skills to the test and see if we both post from the same ISP ?
Of course, a more mundane explanation might be that more than one person is actually looking at OldHolden in the evenings.
Hmmm...come to think of it.... I've never seen you and Henry in the same room at the same time! You're Henry, aren't you ? You would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for those meddling kids!
Stan was a bitter old so and so, who I reckon has all but realised that OH is a bunch of blokes and some sheila's, who help each other with car problems, and chat about other general crap from time to time.
We're not all the same, and aren't all gunna agree with each other all the time, but the thing we do have in common is our passion for old cars, and generally try to help others out where ever we can.
As bitter as Stan was, maybe still is a little? dunno, I don't think he's moonlighting as Henry. Henry is yet another alias for someone who wants to be part of this little group so badly, and whether he realises it or not, he is part of this little group and has been for quite some time, but he has some unresolved issues / phobias.
A couple of people reckoned I was Grawberrry. Well, I guess most realise that was never true. I still am not he. Neither is Stan another name for Grawbs. I also do not think that Henry P is a new incarnation of Grawbs - similar, granted, but not the same.
Grawbs could come back and prove my guess correct of course...!

I think this whole thread has gone beyond silly.
However I did read this yesterday.
------------------------------------
A man is dating three women and wants to decide which to marry. He decides to give them a test. He gives each woman a present of $5000 and watches to see what she does with the money.
The first does a total make-over. She goes to a fancy beauty salon, gets her hair done, new make up and buys several new outfits and dresses up very nicely for the man. She tells him that she has done this to be more attractive for him because she loves him so much. The man was impressed.
The second goes shopping to buy the man gifts. She gets him a new set of golf clubs, some new gizmos for his computer, and some expensive clothes. As she presents these gifts, she tells him that she has spent all the money on him because she loves him so much. Again, the man is impressed.
The third invests the money in the stock market. She earns several times the $5000. She gives him back his $5000 and reinvests the remainder in a joint account. She tells him that she wants to save for their future because she loves him so much. Obviously, the man was impressed.
The man thought for a long time about what each woman had done with the money, and then he married the one with the largest breasts.
Man said to wife "Right you sexy thing, upstairs now"
She looked at him and said "Ooh, you kinky bastard"
He said "No, seriously, the footy's starting, now fark off!!”

A woman goes to the doctor, beaten black and blue.
The Doctor asks: "What happened?"
The woman says: "Doctor, I don't know what to do. Every time my husband comes home drunk he beats me to a pulp."
The Doctor says: "I have a real good cure for that. When your husband comes home drunk, just take a glass of sweet tea and start swishing it in your mouth. Just swish and swish but don't swallow until he goes to bed and is asleep."
Two weeks later the woman comes back to the doctor looking fresh and reborn.
The woman says: "Doctor, that was a brilliant idea! Every time my husband came home drunk, I swished with sweet tea. I swished and swished, and he didn't touch me! How does the tea do that?"
The Doctor says: "The tea does bugger all, it's keeping your fooken’ mouth shut that does the trick?"

the worse thing about e10 is that most or if not all small motors cant run it, ei lawn mowers. and what is it also going to do to fuel senders, as a lot are slowly beign distroyed in older cars by unleaded fuel
Thanks Mr Wipe! I won't go back to putting the stuff in my dual-fuel King'good, but I was just about to fill up my mower fuel tin and the servo. I'll take your small engine E-10 experience as good news for my mower's internals.
HKing - mowing is fun!

'Quick, claim your coolness by spruiking/endorsing/worshipping well-marketed American corporations in an entirely defiant, yet sheep-like manner!'
I too have recently heard quite a few people (on the radio), talking about E10 and how it will stuff your small engines, such as mowers etc, interesting.
Mind you, I have seen how poorly the car runs with it (VE), compared to unleaded, so just based on that, I wouldn't bother using it in my mower, but it is interesting that you have been running it for years. It didn't make sense that a small engine wouldn't run on it.
It is interesting to note that Shell E-10 is rated @94 octane
Caltex is 91, BP is 93.
Word is that United have a boost98 E-10 fuel that is only one or two cents dearer than regular 95 octane, and about 8 or 9 cents cheaper than regular 98 octane.
VE drivers are apparently loving this fuel, although noting a drop in distance travelled from regular 98, it has increased klm's travelled over the same cost for regular 95 grade fuels.

No. No.

Don't do it
I used that stuff in my 2004 Holden Rodeo and it made it ping. Now it has to be run on 98 octane from BP. We have also tried it in our EH that has a EFI 5L from a 91 Commodore. After 2 days of E10 the fuel pump starts to make noise, put 98 from BP and it stops the noise and the engine runs smoother.
The manky shed
That nut Bob Katter wants ALL
That nut Bob Katter wants ALL fuel E20 if he supports either party. What a wacker.
Wackers

Yeah, great. If I wanted
Yeah, great. If I wanted watered down gasoline I would piss in my fuel tank.
There was an article in
There was an article in Street Machine last year by a guy who re-engineers cars to run on E85.
David
Old is good.
I run on 98
I used to go for 98 from BP but locally I can get 98 at Caltex.

But... as stated above, at what cost.
You think meat is expensive now?
Shane.
No
This would be disastrous for old cars.
Great, but leave a choice of fuels, please.

Watched "OZ Garage" on
Watched "OZ Garage" on channel 31 (vic) which had one of the teams from this years supercar V8 comp' talking about the change to the new fuel.
100% ethanol in Brazil & coming to you soon (streetneat)
THANKS

LOL

Hi Streetneat, Yeah, I think
Hi Streetneat,
Yeah, I think you're right.
My Shed
ethanol is both - it absorbs
ethanol is both - it absorbs water from the atmosphere (hygroscopic) and dissolves in water due to the polar bonding between the O part of H2O and the OH part of C2H5OH (hydrophilic). Bog is hygroscopic but wont dissolve in water, ie not hydrophilic.
Thanks for clearing that up.

Alcohol fuel

Ermmm......unless he uses a
Ermmm......unless he uses a static IP from his ISP then the address is meaningless.
Just sayin'....
ummm
I know that a few years ago there was an idiot on here, the IP was traced back to a specific employer in WA, and the employer was informed of the inapropriate activity

If the idiot was using his
If the idiot was using his work computer then he could be traced as a lot of business use static addressing as they run their own servers.

The funny definition of trade qualified... streetneat
THANKS
The ATO has also issued me plenty of paperwork recognising my status as Panel beater/painter/Automotive restoration business operator and proprietor of business of the same nature for the last 21 years... in their words;

I became redundant as as result as they could have a $13/hr guy to replace me to work seven days a week.
I hardly take myself seriously - so I really dont expect others to.
:-)

It does seem a lttle funny that he picked up on the Henry Ford bit
Well, perhaps they'd better
Well, perhaps they'd better put their IP sleuthing skills to the test and see if we both post from the same ISP ?
Of course, a more mundane explanation might be that more than one person is actually looking at OldHolden in the evenings.
Hmmm...come to think of it.... I've never seen you and Henry in the same room at the same time! You're Henry, aren't you ? You would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for those meddling kids!
yes but
If you were to post under different names, you should at least, post in different attitudes and levels of enunciation.
You both sound the same to me.

Long story short, nah, it's not Stan ;)

Grawberry ?
No, I am Spartacus!
THANKS
A couple of people reckoned I was Grawberrry. Well, I guess most realise that was never true. I still am not he. Neither is Stan another name for Grawbs. I also do not think that Henry P is a new incarnation of Grawbs - similar, granted, but not the same.
Grawbs could come back and prove my guess correct of course...!

I think this whole thread has gone beyond silly.
However I did read this yesterday.

Don't be silly

The Doctor says: "The tea does bugger all, it's keeping your fooken’ mouth shut that does the trick?"

e10
the worse thing about e10 is that most or if not all small motors cant run it, ei lawn mowers. and what is it also going to do to fuel senders, as a lot are slowly beign distroyed in older cars by unleaded fuel
Lots of old holdens keep you busy
rubbish
I've been running it in my mowers, edger, whipper snipper, blower, and 25 of the small Honda pump motors at work for years.

Thanks Mr Wipe! I won't go back to putting the stuff in my dual-fuel King'good, but I was just about to fill up my mower fuel tin and the servo. I'll take your small engine E-10 experience as good news for my mower's internals.
HKing - mowing is fun!

Small Engines
I too have recently heard quite a few people (on the radio), talking about E10 and how it will stuff your small engines, such as mowers etc, interesting.
Mind you, I have seen how poorly the car runs with it (VE), compared to unleaded, so just based on that, I wouldn't bother using it in my mower, but it is interesting that you have been running it for years. It didn't make sense that a small engine wouldn't run on it.

E-10
It is interesting to note that Shell E-10 is rated @94 octane
Caltex is 91, BP is 93.
Word is that United have a boost98 E-10 fuel that is only one or two cents dearer than regular 95 octane, and about 8 or 9 cents cheaper than regular 98 octane.
VE drivers are apparently loving this fuel, although noting a drop in distance travelled from regular 98, it has increased klm's travelled over the same cost for regular 95 grade fuels.

I used to use that in my 1985 BMW mentioned above - I cannot get it from United in Sydney or the Blue Mountains, for about 2 years now. Wish they'd bring it back. But only for my daily driver, wouldn't let that touch my HZ.
