GTS Oil pressure gauge operating backwards

Ive recently got the freshly rebuilt 202 in my hz one tonner running. It has a HJ type GTS dash installed. The dash has been installed since there was last a running motor in it.
When the motor was first started the oil gauge appeared to be playing up, so to be on the safe side i removed the gauge sender and put a switch type one in with an indicator globe hooked up just to be sure the pump had primed correctly and the new engine had pressure. Once i was confident that was going to be ok i put the gauge type back in.
What appears to be happening is the gauge is operating in reverse. With the ignition off it reads nothing. when you switch the ignition on without starting it slowly moves over until its reading above maximum and will stay there. When you start the motor up the gauge will slowly move back over toward minimum. when you switch the motor back off but leave the ignition on it will move back to maximum.
The sender i have is a big round type VDO unit that was removed from a VK black motor. I was under the impression the sender units were the same as the early commodore ones.

While im talking about senders, can someone confirm this is the correct temp sender i need: http://cgi.ebay.com....

senders

i would just go to repco or burson and buy 2 new senders tell them what dash you have yellow or white needle temp senders are worth about half of what people bid on that thing im sure there only like 20 dollars a oil pressure sender will set you back around 80

GTS Oil pressure gauge operating backwards

Just buy the sender to suit the dash. If its a HJ dash use the HJ sender. The senders were the same up to HX and then changed in HZ.

Oil sender

HD to HQ, HB to LJ and VB to VK use a 74 part number oil sender.

HJ to HZ, LH and LX use a 99 part number sender.

They work in opposite direction, so you have a 74 sender in there.

you need a VDO oil pressure

you need a VDO oil pressure sender 360-005

What is VDO for HT GTS

Hi Wombat,
Do you know the VDO part number to suit HT GTS Dash?

Cheers Chris

YEP ..Use VDO part number

YEP ..Use VDO part number 360-004..
which is good as this is the most common type used and was used on the commodore withe oil gauge from vb-vk , so if you go down the wreckers find a vb-vk with oil gauge you can use that sender , or you can buy a new one at around $80.00- $100.00 .
