ticked off
gday all, just posting this in regard to all the attention all the young p platers are getting over being hoons etc. im nearly 17 and doing up a wb for my first ute and i would like to draw attention to the fact that like all aspects of life,a small majority is again ruining things for everyone. not all young blokes are more interested in their stereo than their motor. and not all are reckless hoons.
just letting all holden enthusiests out there know that ther is hope yet for the younger generation.

These guys here know it mate,
These guys here know it mate, and it it's great to hear of another kid into the old holdens. What are the plans for it?
Hello there young person
You are absolutely correct not all car enthusiasts are hoons. I would say 99.9% are good drivers, hoons are not car enthusiasts they have no appreciation or respect for public safety or respect for the vehicles they drive.
But the minority give the majority a bad name always. We look forward to seeing some updates on the WB.
Cheers Gary
good on you fox,,hoons always
good on you fox,,hoons always have been around,,,maybe more so these days with the availability of cheaper used cars that even as old family sedans still have plenty more wheel spinning power than say 60s cars hotted up,( most of the high speed accidents are horrific), combined with the everything to the extreme attitude that seems to be the go these days and the lack of respect for authority and public nuisance, its only a percentage of young and old drivers, but it makes good media hype .ps ,let he who is without guilt cast the first stone, weve all done a wheelie and sped,,
WHAT? me worry?
ticked off
THANKS
i completely agree. i turned 18 today. i know of plenty of people my age who fit the hoon sterotype, aswell as plenty who are the complete opposite.
i know of one person who was followed for a little while by the cops and eventually pulled over. Knowing him i guarantee it had bald rear tyres aswell as god knows how many other dangerous/illegal modifications (cut springs etc). the cops hadnt seen him doing anything so let him off the bald tyres etc. he got on facebook later on and said "[naughty pottyword] gezz got pulled ova an there like mate u have only 1 roadworthy Tyre an they still didnt defect it [naughty pottyword] dumb [naughty pottyword] wits ha". when asked why they were "[naughty pottyword] wits" he said he wanted a defect
Cheers, Daniel
awesome
great to hear a bit of support.
im doing up an 81 wb utility.
plans are completely strip it down to chasis and start from the ground up. got lucky as i got a nearly rust free body for not much more than a handshake. it will get a new interior, new paint, most likely rebuild the motor, and a tough set of rims if the budget allows it. probably start with a fairly mild motor but stick a few tough internals in it when i rebuild it. just goin for somthing that looks really tidy.
keep an eye on my shed if u want, im adding photos as i go. theres only a couple on there atm.

god made s@!t, ford made it move
im in the same boat here as
im in the same boat here as you mate i have had my hj one tonner since i was 13 and over the last 5 years me and my dad have built it from the ground up and it sucks that because of some idiots i cant even put a set of extracors on the ute, let alone the 253 we built fro it a few years ago
In the same boat
Hi Jesse
Feel sorry for you guys these days with all the stupid rules for young drivers in NSW, You cant go cruising in your 253 one tonner Mind you with only 2 people in it but you can get behind the wheel of a designated safe 6 cyl family car such as a falcon XR6 which would eat the 253 anyday and has more kilowatts than say a VS 5ltr Commodore& Stick 4 of your mates in it and be legal.Got me totally stuffed how they figure it out.
I got to drive my first V8 when I was just 18 it was a 1964 Galaxy with a 390 V8
375 horsepower on the brand new Tullamarine freeway at 70MPH. It was awsome. 43 years later I remember it like it was yesterday.

it's good to see there are
it's good to see there are other people like me out there.. i am 17 this year and have nearly finished fixing up a hq 253 one tonner and am lucky enough to drive it as i live in tas. i am also glad to see there are other young guys into old holdens like me.
long live the holden!
Where abouts in Tas mate? If
Where abouts in Tas mate? If it's on the North coast somewhere you've probably seen me running around in the Jag... It's the white beast that sounds like it has an exhaust leak :P
Around where I live there are 2-3 near-identical older skylines driven by anyone from 18-40... Needless to say I've seen each and every one of them sitting at the same intersection doing burnouts a couple of times a day before holding the pedal flat down the hill. If they want to [Naughty Pottyword] about on a country road where they can't be seen, fine, I could care less but waking up to the sound of some ricer trying to impress his dip[Naughty Pottyword] mates pisses me off a little, especially in something that sounds (and goes) worse than my washing machine.
Don't get me started on the ones on the highway, I've seen some of them pull manoeuvres that are stupid even by my standards - who overtakes three cars at ~130km/h before cutting them off and having to jump on the brakes to make the turnoff?
I wish they would do
I wish they would do something about the mongrels who give P platers a hard time on the roads.
I'm not talking about young people, I'm talking about the older bastards who will closely tailgate an 18 year old then chop in close when they overtake her. Or the ones who sit on 80ks and then accelerate on overtaking lanes so the kids can't get around.
Both of my kids drive old cars with chrome wheels. If my son left his P plates off in the EH he didn't have any trouble. The trouble has stopped now he has his full licence.
A P plate seems to an open invitation for intimidation to some older drivers.
I just wish we could see some accident statistics for the P platers who drive "dangerous" exempted vehicles legally (with an exemption). I reckon the figures would probably show them to much safer drivers than the average P plater in a "safe" car.

Old is good.
Fair Go for young drivers
Guys its just not P platers the mongrels do it to what really gets me angry these days is when some idiot does it to an L plater trying to clock up some road hours.
At least a P plater has had a "little " more road experience but to tail gate a learner in my book is just (several naughty words)criminal.
However What gets me just as cranky is when I see a red P plater driving like a rat bag
and way over the speed limit and generally its a 10 year old peice of Korean junk in poor repair that they are driving.
These are the idiots that make it harder for all young drivers.
As a rule up here around the Sunshine coast when you see a young P plater in an old Holden, Valiant or Ford, the car is in reallly good condition or well restored and the kid is behaving himself behind the wheel.
Tells you something doesn't it??

i have seen alot of older people do things that are really bad a like an old lady driving the wrong way up a road and a old guy driving up the wrong side of the new ring road(4 line hwy) in geelong the only way he could get to the wrong side was to go down the off ramp i flashed my lgihts at him and he jsut kept on driving and it was 1:30am and really foggie you couldnt see the over haed sings untill you were about 2m away from then luckly he didnt crash
cheers mitch my email
Just a case of a few making
Just a case of a few making things harder for the majority. I've watched how driving/licensing laws have gradually become tougher and tougher over the last few years. What upsets me greatly, is that the fact I have a young brother and 2 young sisters. When those poor buggers have to go for their ticket, it's going to be so much harder for them than what it was for us lot. I don't totally agree that it's just the young drivers who are reckless. Where I live there's more 40-50 year old drivers breaking the speed limit and doing ridiculous things that most respectable adults just would not do. Unfortunately with the media hype and all, soon as a young idiot does something reckless it's front page news. AN older person does it, and it's not generally heard of or no one cares.
Cheers!
When the hippies are at woodstock, it's time to play Slayer!!!
Young Drivers
Slayer has a valid point about older drivers driving badly yes they really do.
Now here is a fact that is going to knock the sox off all those out there looking at this.
Go have a look at the road death statistics and tell me if I have read them inorrectly;
(a) The death toll the 17-24 male has reduced in the past 10 years but the death rate for 17-24 Females has increased and wait for it.. the highest sigle death percentage overall goes to Female drivers in the 35-55 age group.
I am going from memory at what I looked up a few weeks ago but the figures would be close and I think they were for NSW published by the RTA.
Nationally you can look at www.infrastructure.g...
Nationally in the 20 year period from 1987 to 2007 the National road death toll has been reduced by about 50% so over all we must be doing something right.

RTA Accident
RTA Accident statistics:
http://www.rta.nsw.g...
This is the RTA webiste where all the accident statistics are listed.
The bottom item, Young driver accidents, actually states that in the 24 years before our dropkick P plate laws were introduced. young driver accidents fell by over app60% yet the distance travelled by young drivers increased by app 90%. The figures prove that our kids were driving safer over time.
Why not do something about the higher death rate age groups, especially the 70 plus "safe" drivers who spend the least amount of time on the road.
I know there are young d#ckheads out there, but they are the minority, as in all age groups.

Old is good.
I had a good idea the other
I had a good idea the other day, just a thought.. Get a HID spotlight and mount it on your back bumper directing it backwards. a quick flick of the switch will soon deter a tailgater...
Of course i don't think this is a good idea, its dangerous. but sometimes in extreme circumstances you wish you had one..
L and P plater treatment
My fiance and I recently drove our EH down from Brisbane to Sydney and as she only has a QLD auto licence we decided that it would be best if she had the L plates on the car while she drove as the QLD open auto licence wont allow you to drive a manual as it does in other states(they make you go do the test again in a manual). I was suprised at how many people turned into morons who went out of there way to try to make life hard for her becouse she had the L plates on the car, its like they automaticly asume the driver has no driving experiance whatsoever so they are justified in being pricks. I mean I get a little anoyed at some P platers at times but I relise they dont have as much experiance on the road as I have. I wont get into the whos state are better drivers but the worst experiance we had with one of these morons was south of Sydney on the hyway comming back from Mittagong as she was overtaking a slower driver.
Otherwise the only other reaction other then a few pissed of Audi and Porshe drivers who didnt like being over taken by mid 60's technology the reaction we got from taking the car was a good one so we had to put all the idiots down to the fact she had the L plates on when she was doing her driving stints.

Sloth Engineering, I'll do it... When I get around to it.
I dont like young drivers at all
Actually Im joking as I have seen "wiser" drivers give younger L and P drivers very hard times on the road. It shouldnt happen. The plates are there to tell "wiser" (full licence) drivers to slow down and give a little space to these drivers. If we want safe, competent drivers on the road then we need to allow L and P plate drivers the space, time and experience to develop these skills. If they are exposed to aggresive, stupid driving then they will copy that.
FB with mags, rust and attitude. Holden Heaven.
I was actually sitting behind
I was actually sitting behind a p-plater 2 days ago in the truck... now i am speed limited to 100km was in a 110km zone, yet she felt the need to do 90km and pull out 2 meter's infront of me into the right hand lane... then continued at 90km while i was jumping on the brakes to pull 64.5t up... i only by a fraction avoided having her lazer as my bonnet emblem, when she pulled back into the left hand lane 5km up the road, i greatfully recieved the finger from her... yet she only has gotten her p-plates in the last 12mths and has forgotten that "not keeping left unless overtaking" is illegal.
But this where the system let's these younger drivers down... "As they are taught to pass a test... NOT how to drive"
Point of my story is that not all p-platers have to be hoon's to do stupid stuff... lol
But as an interstate\day trip driver the ones that i encounter to be the worst drivers are in there late 30's early 40's, they get to comfortable behind the wheel... pull out and sit in the right hand lane, cruise slower then the speed limit then speed up when there overtaken... worst i have incounted is on single lane hwy's they will do 90km then at the overtaking section do 110km so we cant overtake...
I much prefer the p-plater hoon... as they fly around ya and are gone dont have to worry about em... and i do feel for em with the [Naughty Pottyword] they cop, cause truck drivers cop the same [Naughty Pottyword]... were envolved in an accident caused by a car and we get the blame...
But i am guilty for doing silly things... everyone is, we all speed\underspeed, cut ppl off, zoom infront of a truck at the set of lights (there is a reason we leave space...) ect...
But now-adays i leave my sillyness for the drift track...
