i brought a clutch fan and shroud for my HQ at the ballarat swap meet, before i put it on my car is there a way to test if the clutch part of the fan works as it should?
it shouldnt have any sloppiness in the bearing,,it should have a slight drag(firm) as you spin the centre,clean the coil thermo spring and twist gently the centrally located part,it should turn,,this controls the drag within the hub with temperature,,you wont feel the difference by hand.
I would suggest you buy a new clutch for the fan, Around $120.
I bought a 2ND hand one at a swap a while back, it looked and felt good but after about 2 months it died (bearings seized)and I had to buy a new clutch and fit it.
runs great now and the engine feels smoother too.
Where are you located, I'm in Brisbane and the postage would be a killer if it's too far. It was on the VK that we wrecked out, quickly looking over it, it isn't leaking oil, and when you try to spin it, it's quite tight.

it feels tight, no play, if you spin it there's a litle resistance, i just didn't want to put it in if it didn't work
i paid $65 for the fan and shroud, the seller said it came off a HZ V8
